00:00They're going to need all of that from her as well in this game with her veteran leadership.
00:04Both teams going with their most common lineups for Washington.
00:08Pay attention to guard Georgia Amor.
00:09She's hit multiple threes in four straight games for the Wings.
00:12It's been Jessica Shepard who's been the walking double-double.
00:15A great compliment to Paige Beckers.
00:17Well, Paige Beckers has been awesome.
00:19A little bit off of her mark in terms of her shooting ability in that last game.
00:23Here we go, Washington and Dallas.
00:26It's the Mystics that control the opening dip.
00:28They're coming in 15-2 overall.
00:31Able to hold off a late game push by the Connecticut Sun at home on Tuesday.
00:36And as they do go inside, a miss from Austin.
00:39Eriathen, no.
00:41Loose ball.
00:42Austin continuing to work.
00:45Finally puts it home.
00:46Yeah, that is where Washington wants to punish opponents in the painted area.
00:52Second best in the league in terms of paint points and offensive rebounds.
00:56Ten offensive rebounds on average for the Mystics coming into this one.
01:01Have an off-ball whistle.
01:05Sidney Johnson in his second year as the head coach here in the district talks so frequently about his team
01:11playing with joy.
01:12And you can really see that resonate in the way that they've gone about the last three games in particular.
01:17Well, it's all relative to what that is.
01:19If I can have a particular thing that is joyous for me.
01:22But they're all on the same page with that.
01:23Washington in a zone here to start the game defensively.
01:27Good ball movement.
01:28Fudd.
01:29Triple try is good.
01:32Lazy Fudd.
01:32No stranger to the three-bone.
01:35Won that three-point shooting contest in the most recent WNBA All-Star game.
01:40Just a rookie out of UConn.
01:43First ever rookie to do that.
01:46Great big-to-big connection as Eriathen lays it in.
01:50And you'd love to see that.
01:51Get to work downstairs.
01:52That high-low look, the vision from post-to-post really makes a huge difference.
01:59Dallas really walloped to Mystics in that first meeting.
02:02It was 92-69 as Agumboale fires away.
02:06We're talking about Agumboale.
02:08I mean, she's a 43-percent striker from the outside.
02:11And that corner pocket was true from three.
02:16Washington loves to run through the front court.
02:19Austin lost the handle.
02:20Kept it.
02:21Finds Oñanwere.
02:22That three-ball well off the mark.
02:25She can knock it down as well.
02:2735-percent.
02:28In the middle of the middle of the season.
02:34Agumboale has been feeling it as of late.
02:36That one off the heel.
02:41Amor in transition.
02:43Three-ball won't go.
02:44But I like the aggression by Georgia Amor there.
02:47Shakira Austin said,
02:48You owe me $100 if you hesitate on pulling those three.
02:51No hesitation from Becker's.
02:53Too strong.
02:54Iryafin Kalevsky.
02:55Another rebound.
02:56Let's talk about how much uncomfortable she feels on the block this season.
03:01Iryafin.
03:02Comfortable offensively as well in continuation.
03:06Oh, my.
03:10Kiki Iryafin.
03:12Well, Kiki Iryafin, we're just going to go ahead and call this play weight room because the power and voracious
03:18attack of the cup was so top tier for the second year all-star.
03:25And two-time all-star in Kiki Iryafin.
03:29And she has been phenomenal for the Washington Mystics in terms of her consistent play.
03:34And her energy has also been very consistent as well.
03:37Iryafin coming off yet another double-double.
03:40It was a 20-point, 10-board performance in the win over the Sun.
03:45And Queen Kiki, she has 13 double-doubles this season.
03:48Queen Kuiir traveled.
03:53Taking care of the basketball is something that Dallas does very well.
03:57But Jose Fernandez wants to get back to the way that this team plays, really likes what they've been doing
04:01over the course of the season, obviously coming off of that tough loss against the Dream, but really likes overall
04:06the way this team is headed.
04:07Yeah, and he said the pace was at the top of mind when it comes to that, right?
04:11They're at their best, especially against this long and lanky Washington Mystics team.
04:16Going to deal with them in the quarter four.
04:19Washington there, held just 34 feet points in the first meeting.
04:22Citron misses.
04:24Austin, cleanup duty.
04:25And that's what I'm talking about.
04:27Washington maximizing their possessions by crashing the offensive boards and getting the putbacks and staying on balance.
04:34Austin, masterful there with the finish.
04:37Fudd pulls the trigger.
04:38It's too strong.
04:40Washington has been playing some of the best perimeter defense in the league over the last 10 games.
04:44Amor downhill.
04:46Iryafin couldn't hold on.
04:50But how about Shakira Austin down low, getting down in the trenches, following up shots, getting her position, and hunting
04:59her own touch.
05:00And getting that smooch off the window and getting that bucket to go.
05:03But that is the force that Washington brings.
05:06They play inside, out.
05:08They were 50% from three against Connecticut from range.
05:11And that opens up things on the inside.
05:14Very abnormal as Beckers got caught up in the air.
05:16Finds Shepard down and out.
05:18Shepard, of course, having a phenomenal season.
05:20Four triple doubles for Jess Shepard, which is just outrageous.
05:24But she also leads the league in rebounds with just over 12 per game.
05:28Some of the best rebounders in the league on display tonight.
05:30As Oñanuele spun and lost it.
05:35Oñanuele pushing base.
05:37This is where Dallas loves to work.
05:38Great transition D there from Iryafin.
05:41But a foul.
05:44That hit on the arm was a foul.
05:46But the infraction occurred when that baseline foot came open for Iryafin to give her a sliver of space to
05:54attack that.
05:55And get to the second side.
05:58Mentioned the four triple doubles by Jessica Shepard.
06:01League record.
06:02A.T. with eight.
06:03You feel like Shepard has that in the tank with 17 games remaining on the schedule.
06:08Well, she was not only named an All-Star for the first time in her career this season, but also
06:13an All-Star starter.
06:14But that is the reverence that her consistent play has garnered this season.
06:20And just one of two players in the league averaging a double-double alongside Angel Reese.
06:28She has really come into her own, Jess Shepard has.
06:34Making an impact in every single game in every way.
06:37Mystics feel like they've been coming into their own as well.
06:40Citron, the slick crossover, but can't finish.
06:43Oh, the rejection of the screen up top.
06:45On the middle third of the floor, it's tough to cover.
06:49But Sonya Citron is an absolute maestro when it comes to making the proper reads.
06:55Sold Paige Becker.
06:57It's that crossover.
06:58And then got right to the second line of defense at the cup.
07:03You know, that's what you do to ravenous defenders, right?
07:06You sell them the basketball.
07:08Paige Becker's went the other way.
07:10Sonya Citron got a straight line drive.
07:12Got downhill with it.
07:13How many times do you see Becker's left in the dust defensively?
07:16No, I mean, that's what happens, though.
07:18You know, there's no slight to pace.
07:20It's because she's a great defender and she's so long and lanky.
07:24But, you know, Sonya Citron did a KYP on that.
07:27Know your personnel.
07:29She knew if she sold it to her, she was going to buy it.
07:32Sonya McMahon, the first player off the bench for the Mystic.
07:34She brings that toughness in physicality.
07:38I like to call her a human wrecking ball.
07:39And a business decision waiting to happen
07:41when she has the basketball in her hands.
07:43She just brings it right to you.
07:45Off-ball foul.
07:47That one's on Kiki Iriafin as well.
07:48Already her second.
07:49And that's going to get Lauren Betts up off of the bench
07:51and into the game for the first time.
07:54Lauren Betts the rookie.
07:56She's going to be away.
08:01Already making early chess moves.
08:03Lee Uru is up.
08:04They will check her in.
08:06She has really seen a ton of playing time
08:08for the Wings as of late.
08:09She has, but I'm intrigued by the matchup
08:12with Betts and Uru inside.
08:15Betts here's been consistent.
08:17Games with more than 10 points for the rookie.
08:20Zone here again for Washington.
08:24Backers from the mid-range, well short.
08:27Betts has been dropped coverage there.
08:30You have to squeeze that space
08:31if that's better get sucked on that screen.
08:35You saw the idea there from Onionwere
08:37trying to hit Betts on the roll.
08:39At least it was a dead ball turnover
08:41for the sake of Sidney Johnson's nerves.
08:44Right?
08:44I mean, he has been so patient.
08:47A coaching dad, if you will,
08:48is what they like to call him here in D.C.
08:51but, you know, I think he loves the idea
08:55and their creativity of plays.
08:57They execute it great, if not, they learn.
09:00Oh!
09:00Citroen the block!
09:04Sony caught up for that rejection.
09:08And drew a foul on the other end.
09:16Well, you're talking about silky-silky soul Citroen right here
09:21getting all the way up to the upper room
09:23to get all ball in that big block on Paige Becker's superb timing.
09:29And discipline on the defensive side not to touch the arm
09:32or get a piece of the body in the air.
09:34I think that's one of the most underrated parts of Citroen's game
09:37is her defense.
09:38It doesn't get talked about enough, in my opinion.
09:40She chases, and even if it's not the primary defensive assignment,
09:45she is a savant when it comes to being in the right place at the right time,
09:49whether she's on offense or defense.
09:51She moves well without the ball on offense,
09:53and defensively, she's been fantastic.
09:57Sims trying to thread the needle, tipped away by Citroen.
10:00It'll stay with the wings.
10:02The Washington out to a hot start with a five-point lead.
10:11Tamika Catchings, that says something
10:13about the type of season you're having.
10:14No question about it, I mean.
10:15Tamika Catchings are one of the most iconic players
10:18in the history of the WNBA on both sides of the ball as well.
10:22I mean, her defense is always phenomenal.
10:25I got a chance to call with Tamika a few years ago
10:27at the collegiate level, and I asked her,
10:29how do you want me to introduce you?
10:30Because there are so many different options.
10:31We could be here for the entire game.
10:33Yeah, I mean, she gets the job done,
10:36and she gives the best hugs as well.
10:38I believe that.
10:39It's kind of like asking how you want me to introduce you.
10:41There you go.
10:42One hundred.
10:45Five-point Mystics lead.
10:47Sticking with that zone, trying to pack the pain.
10:49We saw Shakira Austin right there in drop coverage,
10:52but really doing a good job of waving
10:53and staying in that space.
10:55Sims stepped through, put it up, won't go.
10:58Able to track a down-loose ball, and a foul called.
11:01It's going to be on Citron, her first.
11:04You can really see where Dallas is trying to attack the zones
11:07and find to get to those elbow areas,
11:10trying to shrink the defense down,
11:11and try to make Washington a second line of defense
11:14and take a tough choice.
11:18Coming up on four-and-a-half minutes to play here in the first.
11:21Dallas has missed their last five field goals.
11:24Sims got down, he'll blocked again.
11:28Two to shoot.
11:29Shot clock didn't reset.
11:30Beckers won't get it off in time.
11:32Shot clock violation.
11:35How about the active hands and active feet
11:39by the gritty Washington Mystics,
11:41and Sony Citron racking up the blocks,
11:44sending another one back for the district.
11:48So John doing her best.
11:49Shakira Austin impersonation early on in this game.
11:52Yeah, Georgia Aymour has been.
11:54Disrespectful blocks have come by way of Shakira Austin this year.
11:57Into Betts.
11:58Betts splits the double with the right, fell off the rim.
12:01But if you're Washington, you like the aggressive take.
12:03Yeah, she split the wickets.
12:04Second line of defense came to crowd her space.
12:07And I love that feathery touch just off the bar.
12:09Oh, Fudd got downhill, couldn't finish.
12:12Easy Fudd, she's been playing with such a tremendous amount of confidence
12:16as of late.
12:17Good recovery defensively there.
12:19Better fun and a foul.
12:22Onyenwere going to the free throw line.
12:25Onyenwere got that pass because she continued to move, right?
12:29Onyenwere was out of position, she knew it.
12:32Took a purposeful dart to cut, comes up to the line.
12:37First foul on Yerou, it's already the fourth team foul on the wings.
12:42That is something that Washington excels at.
12:44Onyenwere, one of the best free throw shooters on the team.
12:47But the Mystics, they are able to get to the free throw line in bunches.
12:50They are, I mean, they lead the league.
12:53They're drawing fouls 24 a game.
12:56And also, it's 40%.
12:59Their offensive production comes from the line,
13:01and they don't shoot it at a very high clip in terms of percentage.
13:03So, they get there.
13:05The attempt 26 free throws per contest,
13:08which is also first of the league.
13:10Onyenwere goes one of two.
13:12Maddie Segrist on the floor for the wings.
13:14She is an outside threat.
13:16Defend!
13:18Defend!
13:19Look how wide this zone is, though, bumping off.
13:22Beckers from ten, left it short.
13:25And a great pair up there by Lauren Betts.
13:29Grabbed that with two hands and protected it.
13:31And a swarm of defense around her.
13:33Austin, the strong tank, and rolled it in.
13:37They call, Shakira Austin, big red around these parts.
13:41What a tough move by the 6'6 vet of this team.
13:46Kick to Segrist.
13:47That three misses.
13:50Beckers waiting for the loose ball.
13:52So smart.
13:53Gives it off to Segrist.
13:54Extra pass.
13:55Beckers lays it in.
13:57That's the first bucket in ten attempts for the wings.
14:00Fantastic connectivity on the offensive end.
14:02Great patience by Maddie Segrist also.
14:05To wait for Paige Beckers to fill on the weak side for the deuce.
14:10Citron hacked on her way to the cup.
14:14But how about Shakira Austin?
14:18Bringing her power and voracious attack mode mentality to the court.
14:22Looking for the foul.
14:24Hands to the heavens like Beyonce's song.
14:28Chris, you're a former first player.
14:30Didn't you get fouled on every single attempt?
14:31No.
14:32I kept it moving.
14:33Nope.
14:34You were just too good to get fouled, is what you're saying?
14:36No, no, no, no.
14:37You know what?
14:37I don't think I could play much.
14:39You know what I did, though?
14:40As a coach.
14:41Okay.
14:42I said a lot more about that than I did as a player.
14:44I think I was kind of a, you know, stoic player in that way.
14:48I got excited when my teammates scored.
14:50That's about it.
14:52But I didn't say anything.
14:53If I thought I got hit, I got to move it down the other side and get on my horse
14:56and sprint.
14:57That's about it.
15:01Cichon, I'll head to the bench in just a moment.
15:03Alethea Flores waiting to check in.
15:04All six of Sony's points have come from the free throw line so far.
15:08That's what you said, I mean she's taken a bullseye.
15:10She throws me on this, especially in the 16th.
