00:29and your officials here tonight.
00:30It's Aaliyah Boston
00:32and Megan DeLeo
00:34in the center jump circle.
00:37Game number 29
00:39of a 44-game WNBA season
00:41is underway here from Portland.
00:45And four seconds in,
00:46we've got a clock malfunction.
00:51Don't you feel like all the stars
00:53show up when the fever
00:54are on the road?
00:55You've got a feeling
00:55that the house is packed,
00:57the place is jumping,
00:57the fireworks pregame
00:59were awesome in the arena.
01:00I've never seen
01:01that many fireworks in-house.
01:03It's a sold-out crowd
01:04here tonight in Portland
01:05and the fever,
01:06they have thrived
01:07lately on the road.
01:10Caitlin Clark coming off
01:11a 32-point performance.
01:13Clark on the drive,
01:13behind the back to Billings,
01:15who couldn't finish at the rim.
01:17A rare off-nake for Caitlin Clark
01:19when the fever were here last.
01:21They held her to a season-low
01:22six points.
01:24Stephanie White touched on pregame.
01:25The fever are a very different team
01:27from the one that took the floor
01:29here in late May.
01:31Carla Laid on the drive,
01:32gets inside,
01:33but can't finish.
01:33Carla Laid is a problem
01:35for everyone.
01:35If she gets to that right hand,
01:37she pushes.
01:38Mitchell inside for Billings,
01:40who runs in to Carlton,
01:41and the foul is on the floor.
01:44The acceleration and the consistent pace
01:47that Indiana plays with
01:49is incredibly fast.
01:51It's part of the reason why
01:52they've already set the record
01:54for most games over 100 points
01:57and most consecutive games
01:59over 100 points.
02:00You expect a big number
02:02every time they're on the floor
02:03because Caitlin has such command
02:05of the offense.
02:06That's four in a row over 112
02:08on the season.
02:10They've already topped
02:11the WNBA record of 11
02:13as Boston backs in,
02:15spins,
02:15and gets it to go.
02:17That is a matchup problem
02:18for Portland.
02:19One-on-one,
02:21Boston in the paint.
02:22It's going to be tough for them.
02:24They're going to have to bring two
02:25to try to turn her
02:26into a passer.
02:27Beaver were up by 16
02:28on Tuesday
02:29when she went down
02:30as Potts rolls,
02:32and an offensive foul
02:34is the call.
02:36There was a flail
02:37in the face of Billings.
02:39And watch the work
02:40off the ball right here
02:42by Clark.
02:43And then it's Boston
02:44who spins,
02:45takes DeLeo
02:45deep into the paint
02:46over that left shoulder.
02:48Forget about it.
02:49And then right here
02:50you see the flail.
02:51That's the offensive foul.
02:53A little surprised
02:54they aren't looking at that
02:55for an upgrade.
02:56You so often see contact
02:58to the face
02:58lead to a monitor review.
03:00Kevin Fahey didn't even hesitate.
03:02He saw it immediately
03:03and blew the whistle.
03:07Boston with all sorts
03:09of space.
03:10Kick out Hull.
03:11Who drops a three?
03:13Lexi Hull is four for eight
03:15in the previous two games
03:16against Portland
03:17shooting the three.
03:18She likes to play
03:19against this team
03:20in black.
03:21Lake gets inside.
03:22Nearly loses the handle.
03:24Former Fever forward
03:25Emily Aixler.
03:27Backdoor pass
03:28and Lake gets to the rim.
03:30Oh!
03:31Thank you,
03:32Emily Aixler!
03:35Mitchell pushing off
03:37of that made bucket.
03:38Indiana's second fastest
03:39pace of play in the league.
03:41Boston can't connect
03:42on the three ball.
03:43Although Hull knocked it away
03:44and they'll call a foul
03:46a little too aggressive
03:47by Lexi Hull.
03:48Not many times do I say
03:49Indiana had poor spacing
03:51but that was too quick
03:52of a three
03:53and the spacing
03:54was not good.
03:55You gotta make
03:57Portland play some D.
03:58And if you move the ball
04:00they will try
04:01to be aggressive
04:02in their ball screen coverage
04:03as it brings two
04:03and Kaitlin Clark
04:04and Kelsey Mitchell
04:05are really hard
04:06to trap in that scheme.
04:08Portland enters
04:08the ninth
04:09in the WNBA standings.
04:11They are one spot
04:11out of the playoffs.
04:14Billings touched that last.
04:16It'll stay
04:16with Portland
04:17but they're four
04:18and a half games
04:19behind eighth place
04:20New York
04:20who just lost today.
04:2116 games to go
04:23but still time
04:24but there's a lot
04:24of work to be done
04:25to be the second ever
04:27expansion franchise
04:27to make the playoffs.
04:29The head coach
04:30is Alex Sarama
04:31in his first year
04:32in the WNBA
04:33as a head coach.
04:41Late nearly lost it.
04:43Fires it up
04:43and leaves it short.
04:46You gotta try
04:47to weak her
04:47or make her go left.
04:52Clark launches
04:53off balance.
04:55Felt there was
04:56some contact.
04:56Offensive rebound
04:57busted.
05:03third chance opportunity.
05:05Billings feeds.
05:06Boston misses inside
05:07but the whistle comes
05:09and Boston will shoot too.
05:12Nice pass by Billings.
05:14Good hustle
05:15on the weak side.
05:16Billings and Hull
05:17to get an offensive rebound.
05:21Last time the fever
05:22were in this building
05:23May 30th.
05:24Probably their worst
05:24night of the year.
05:25they got down
05:26by 26.
05:27Lost by 16.
05:29But it's also a moment
05:30that the fever
05:31turned a corner.
05:32Indiana's 14-6
05:33since that
05:35May 30 loss.
05:37Well you take
05:38a thumping like that
05:38and Indiana got
05:39one delivered.
05:40That's for sure.
05:41There definitely was
05:42the worst game
05:43of the season.
05:47I was in studio
05:48for that one
05:49and for another network
05:51and I was like
05:51what?
05:52What happened?
05:54What happened?
05:55Indiana has so rarely
05:56had a blowout loss
05:57this year.
05:58Most of their losses
05:59have been tight
06:00and competitive
06:01which is of course
06:02the sign of a good team.
06:04Late kick down.
06:06Engsler
06:06hits a three.
06:09Emily Engsler
06:10is such an incredible
06:11stretch for.
06:12She's a really good
06:13rim protector as well.
06:16Boston will take it
06:17herself tonight
06:18at the rim by Engsler.
06:19Engsler with a block
06:20on help.
06:24Carlton backing it
06:26on foot
06:26and draws the foul.
06:31See the last couple
06:32of possessions
06:33Indiana really
06:36not making good choices
06:37with the basketball
06:38and Boston right here
06:40gets stuffed
06:41left by Engsler.
06:46So Bridget Carlton
06:48will shoot too.
06:49Prime example
06:49of a player
06:50showing what they're
06:51capable of here
06:51with more opportunity
06:52is Carlton.
06:54First overall pick
06:55in the 2026
06:57expansion draft
06:58and she does not
06:58miss from here
06:59very often.
07:00A 91% free throw
07:01shooter.
07:04Fourth most made
07:05threes in the league
07:07right now
07:08and now it's 70.
07:11Of course
07:11Kelsey Mitchell
07:12is third.
07:12She's made the
07:13third most threes
07:14in the league.
07:15Portland not afraid
07:16to apply this
07:16backcourt pressure
07:17but the Beaver
07:18want to play fast
07:19and Clark Banks
07:20at home
07:20taking advantage
07:21of it.
07:27Pressure will be
07:27a fascinating
07:28storyline to watch
07:29here tonight
07:30as Lake turns
07:30the corner
07:31and will go
07:32to the line.
07:34I'm telling you
07:34Pat she is a
07:35hard driver
07:36and she turns
07:38that corner
07:38with that right
07:39hand
07:40and she is
07:41tremendous
07:41at getting
07:41to the free
07:42throw line.
07:44Late is one
07:45of six players
07:46in the WNBA
07:47averaging 15
07:48points and five
07:48assists.
07:49Of course
07:49Kaitlyn Clark
07:50is one of the
07:50others.
07:51Late is one
07:52of the 13
07:54players from
07:55France
07:55that will be
07:57on the French
07:57national team.
07:59I assume
08:00they haven't
08:01announced it yet
08:01but I'm guessing
08:02she's going to
08:02be on the team.
08:03And remember
08:04the gold medal
08:05Indiana
08:07I mean
08:07USA
08:08only won
08:09by one point
08:11even though
08:11Indiana's won
08:12eight in a row.
08:13Excuse me
08:14USA basketball
08:15has won
08:15eight in a row.
08:17Indiana
08:17Fever
08:18have won
08:18four in a row
08:19here coming
08:19into tonight.
08:22See a little
08:22pass there
08:23on the baseline
08:24to try to
08:25avoid that
08:26backcourt
08:26pressure.
08:33pox did a good
08:34job of closing
08:35down the space.
08:37Here's Boston
08:38on Aixler.
08:39And Boston
08:40banks it home.
08:41In a one-on-one
08:43when she gets
08:43that deep
08:44she's a problem
08:45for Portland.
08:48Boston has six
08:49of Indiana's
08:5011 points here
08:51in the first
08:51quarter.
08:52Late bouncing.
08:54nobody home.
08:55Clark with a steal.
08:56Clark looking to push.
08:57And it deflected
08:59by Potsch.
09:00Here is
09:00Cunningham.
09:07Sophie Cunningham
09:08who hit her
09:08first three threes
09:09in Seattle
09:10on Tuesday
09:11comes right
09:12off the bench
09:13and drills
09:14a three
09:14for Indiana.
09:18Aixler
09:18answers
09:19for the triple.
09:20Back-to-back
09:22threes
09:22for Aixler
09:23having an impact
09:25on both sides
09:25of the ball
09:26early.
09:28A freedom
09:29of movement
09:30foul on
09:30Nadia Potsch
09:32drawn by
09:33Kaitlin Clark.
09:35So Cunningham
09:36right here
09:36on the spot
09:37catches it
09:38unguarded
09:40uncontested
09:41sees a big
09:42basket early.
09:47And that's
09:48hopefully
09:49a good sign
09:49for the Fever
09:50who
09:50when she plays
09:51well
09:52have been
09:53really tough
09:53to beat
09:54this year.
09:56Clark
09:56here is
09:57Boston
09:59kick out
09:59Cunningham
10:00swing
10:00at Mitchell
10:01three ball
10:03rims out.
10:07This is
10:08Taya
10:08Oblak
10:08who has
10:09checked in
10:09for her
10:10first minutes.
10:12Rookie
10:12out of
10:13Slovenia.
10:14A 35-year-old
10:15rookie
10:17and Boston
10:18blocks
10:18Oblak
10:20now Boston
10:21has a major
10:22size advantage
10:22but can't finish
10:23inside.
10:24Just needed to be
10:24a little more
10:25patient.
10:28Carlton
10:29isolated on
10:30Clark
10:30who did
10:30well.
10:31Carlton
10:31hits the deck
10:35and Oblak
10:36hits a throw.
10:40Did you say
10:4035-year-old rookie
10:42already about
10:42Oblak?
10:45It's been an
10:46impressive story
10:47made her WNBA
10:48debut at age
10:4935.
10:50Here is Clark
10:51stepping back.
10:55Mitchell battling
10:56there underneath
10:56but it's
10:57Greta Pooner
10:58who pulls down
10:58the rebound.
11:01Potch drives on.
11:02Clark
11:03who got a hand
11:03in there.
11:04Potch did a good
11:04job of keeping
11:05it from going
11:06out of bounds.
11:07Cunningham
11:07with an ear steal.
11:09Oblak
11:09misses everything.
11:10Indiana playing
11:12maybe too
11:14quick.
11:16Got to move
11:16the ball.
11:17Swing, swing,
11:18piece of the
11:18paint, kick.
11:19Go back to
11:20your really good
11:20habits.
11:24Force the
11:25closeout and
11:25you know that
11:26Portland's picking
11:28up full court
11:28pressure here.
11:29They're all about
11:30bringing two to
11:31the ball whether
11:31it's full court
11:32or in the
11:32quarter court
11:33with their
11:33ball screen
11:34coverage.
11:35You've got to
11:35invite that but
11:36you've got to
11:36move the ball.
11:38Just one assist
11:39here for the
11:40Fever in the
11:40opening six
11:41minutes.
11:43Clark inside
11:44knocked away by
11:45Williams.
11:46Indiana turns
11:46it over.
11:49Not able to
11:50track it down.
11:51There's Taya
11:51Oblak
11:51beat inside
11:52and there's
11:53a whistle
11:54first on
11:55Indiana.
12:05Caitlin looking
12:06for a foul
12:06right there
12:07got smacked
12:07in the face
12:10took her
12:11out of the
12:11play for a
12:12second which
12:13allowed Portland
12:14to get it
12:15down the
12:15floor.
12:28Bouncing
12:28inside not
12:30enough room
12:31lunar stepped
12:32on the baseline
12:34Portland
12:34turnover.
12:35Pach has got
12:36a lot of
12:36length and
12:37she has
12:37been all
12:38in Caitlin
12:39Clark's
12:39space.
12:42She is a
12:42rookie out
12:43of Australia
12:44but already
12:44making her
12:45mark especially
12:45on the
12:45defensive end.
12:47Mitchell
12:48crossed it
12:48over lost
12:49the handle
12:49Indiana
12:50turned it
12:50over.
12:50Too much
12:51one-on-one
12:51right now.
12:52And Pach
12:53beats
12:53everyone
12:54back.
12:57You've
12:57got to have
12:58a feel
12:58for Kelsey
12:59Mitchell
12:59in her
13:00game.
13:00When she
13:01hasn't had
13:01a touch
13:02for a while
13:02and she
13:03gets one
13:03she's
13:03going to
13:04look to
13:04score.
13:04So put
13:05her in
13:05a situation
13:05where she
13:07can catch
13:07it and
13:07score.
13:08Like that
13:08wide pin
13:09down action
13:09that Indiana
13:10likes to run
13:10for Mitchell.
13:13It's an
13:138-0
13:13Portland run.
13:14They take
13:15their first
13:15lead.
13:16Mitchell
13:17finds some
13:17space and
13:18knocks it
13:18down.
13:19Wide open
13:19look because
13:20you get
13:20ball reversal
13:21and you
13:22play through
13:22the middle
13:23of the floor
13:23to the
13:23other
13:24side.
13:25Kelsey
13:25Mitchell's
13:26first two
13:26points of
13:27the night.
13:27Here's a
13:28rolling
13:28Williams
13:28at Indiana
13:29Loster.
13:36Clark
13:36to a
13:37rolling
13:37Billings.
13:38Good
13:39catch
13:39by
13:39Billings.
13:42Portland
13:43is only
13:4313th
13:44in a
13:4415-team
13:45league
13:45in pace.
13:46They do
13:46not want
13:47to play
13:47quite the
13:48brand of
13:48basketball
13:49we've seen
13:49so far.
13:50And now
13:50a really
13:50delayed
13:51whistle
13:51comes in.
13:52And Sophie
13:53Cunningham
13:53is arguing
13:54that she
13:54ran
13:55right
13:55into
13:55her
13:55teammates.
13:57Look
13:57at this

14:00Clark
14:01puts it
14:01only
14:01where
14:02Billings
14:02can
14:02catch

14:10They

14:11Cunningham
14:12and the

14:17on
14:17the
14:17right
14:17play.
14:22Okay
14:22what Sophie
14:23is arguing
14:24arguing
14:24is that
14:26Winterburn
14:26ran right
14:26into her
14:27own
14:27teammate
14:27and forced
14:28the
14:28contact.
14:29That's what
14:30you're supposed
14:30to do
14:30Pat.
14:31You're supposed
14:31to come
14:31off that
14:32screen as
14:32tight as
14:32you can.
14:33Thank you.
14:41for the
14:42first foul

15:40It's

16:10Marco
16:11shaking
16:11Winterburn
16:12who got
16:12a
16:12hand
16:12in
16:13there
16:13at
16:13the

16:20I was
16:20talking to
16:21KK
16:21before the
16:22game.
16:22She remembers
16:22going against
16:23Engsler in
16:24college.
16:24She was a
16:25freshman when
16:25Engsler was a
16:26senior at
16:26Louisville.
16:31she remembers
16:32how athletic
16:33Engsler was
16:34and what a
16:35challenge it
16:35was to go
16:36against her
16:36how good
16:36of a
16:37defender
16:37she is.
16:39KK's
16:39developing
16:40that
16:40offensive
16:40skill set
16:41around the
16:42basket
16:42and you
16:42can see
16:43her
16:43confidence
16:43starting
16:44to rise.
16:45When
16:46Stephanie
16:46White was
16:47asked to
16:47look back
16:48at that
16:48May 30
16:48game
16:49here,
16:49she lamented
16:50the foul
16:50trouble
16:51that the
16:51fever got
16:52in.
16:52This is
16:53the sixth
16:54foul here
16:55on Indiana
16:55in the
16:56opening
16:56nine minutes
16:58and Portland
16:58is taking
16:59the seventh
17:00and eighth
17:00free throws
17:01of the
17:01quarter.
17:02By design,
17:03this is
17:03Portland's
17:04game.
17:05They have
17:06been able
17:06to make
17:06this a
17:07quarter
17:07court game,
17:08keep the
17:08scoring low
17:10and get
17:11to the
17:11free throw
17:12line and
17:12it allows
17:13them on
17:13every dead
17:14ball situation
17:15to really
17:15load up
17:16their
17:16defense.
17:19They've
17:19got good
17:19foul shooters
17:20when they
17:21get there.
17:21Samuelson
17:22at 92%.
17:27Indiana
17:28spent a
17:28lot of
17:28time
17:28working
17:29on
17:29relieving
17:30pressure
17:30by
17:30Caitlin
17:31stepping
17:31out of
17:32bounds,
17:32getting
17:33it to
17:33the
17:33middle.
17:38Boston
17:38bouncing,
17:39Clark
17:39on a
17:39shot
17:40fake.
17:41Clark
17:42spinning,
17:42fires it
17:43up and
17:43gets
17:43the
17:43whistle.
17:47She
17:47has had
17:47to work
17:48for
17:48everything
17:48here
17:48in the
17:48first
17:49quarter.
17:49Portland
17:49has been
17:50physical
17:50with her.
17:51and Stephanie
17:51White
17:52is on
17:53the
17:53official
17:53on the
17:54trail
17:54because
17:55there
17:55is the
17:56freedom
17:56of
17:57movement
17:57and she
17:57doesn't
17:58like it
17:58and I
17:58don't
17:58blame
17:59her.
17:59It's right
17:59in front
17:59of us.
18:00We saw
18:00the same
18:00thing.
18:03We saw
18:04We saw
18:05Caitlin
18:05Clark's
18:0632 points
18:07on Tuesday
18:08were tied
18:08for her
18:09second most
18:10on the
18:11season.
18:13She's
18:13averaging
18:1430 per
18:14game
18:15over her
18:16last four
18:16and she
18:18did her
18:18damage
18:18all over
18:20the floor
18:20in Seattle
18:21on Tuesday
18:21including
18:2210 of
18:2210 from
18:22the line.
18:23Caitlin
18:23is 23
18:24for her
18:25last
18:2523
18:25and 40
18:27for her
18:27last
18:2842.
18:29But the
18:30Fever
18:30continuing
18:30to foul
18:31here
18:31on the
18:31defensive
18:32end.
18:32This
18:32is the
18:32seventh
18:33now
18:33of the
18:33quarter.
18:41And
18:42it's
18:42the
18:42second
18:43on
18:43Clark.
18:44So
18:45Clark
18:45has
18:45two
18:46Hall
18:46has
18:46two.
18:49And
18:50the
18:50problem
18:50with
18:50putting
18:51Portland
18:51to the
18:52line
18:52is
18:52just
18:52about
18:53everybody
18:54on this
18:55FIRE
18:55roster
18:56is a
18:57top-tier
18:57foul
18:58shooter
18:58including
18:59Carla
18:59at
18:5989%.
19:00It's a
19:01big part
19:01of their
19:02offense.
19:15That is
19:1610 first
19:16quarter
19:17free throws
19:17for Portland.
19:21Chance
19:22to go
19:22two for
19:22one here
19:23if the
19:23Fever
19:23want
19:23to
19:23push.
19:25Boston

19:32the

19:34Fever
19:34did
19:34get
19:34the
19:35two
19:35for
19:35one
19:35although
19:36just
19:37about
19:37six
19:37seconds
19:38separate
19:38those
19:38two

19:41Look

23:42career high
23:43Boston sees two Timpson and one
23:47telling you KK Timpson's ready to ball out tonight
23:56Timpson's so active around the rim
24:02good dive on the back side once she sees two in a trap and a good find
24:13got to make yourself visible on the back side Pat she stepped into a major role lately Timpson playing 22
24:20minutes per game over her last eight that's about 10 minutes more per game than she was playing previously she
24:26has rewarded Stephanie White with great defense
24:31and the
24:32What's she done
24:34No
24:34It's a good battle
24:36It's so hard to keep her from going to be right
24:38I mean, you know how I say Kelsey Mitchell is like a running back who gets her shoulder pads over
24:43her thigh pads when she hits that offensive line.
24:46Well, Carla Late plays the game low to high, too.
24:50And smaller guards are a problem for everyone in the W, not just the Fever.
