00:00South Sudan's President Salva Keir has dismissed economist Johnny Ohisa from his post as the
00:06country's central bank governor. He previously served as the bank's chief on two separate
00:10occasions and was reappointed for a third time earlier this year. Keir did not give a reason
00:15for Ohisa's removal, which comes as he makes a series of sweeping changes in the senior
00:20ranks of his government. Analysts suggest this signals an attempt by the president to
00:25consolidate his power amid uncertainty over who will succeed him. Elections, the first
00:29in the country's history, have been postponed twice but are now due to take
00:33place on the 22nd of December. Ohisa's been replaced by Addis Ababa Otho who held the
00:39same position between June and November last year. South Sudan's economy faces mounting
00:44pressures from declining oil revenues, recurring cash shortages, high inflation
00:48and currency depreciation. The country remains deeply insecure with clashes
00:52between the military and fighters loyal to the detained first vice president surging
00:56since last year.
