00:06You can see it's not just the US and Canada battling multiple blazers, Europe is too.
00:11And some of these countries aren't prepared.
00:13The normally idyllic landscapes of rural France and Spain now look closer to hell.
00:18Hundreds of thousands of people have already been evacuated.
00:21But these ferocious blazers are exposing gaps in these countries' firefighting capacities.
00:25In France, there aren't enough firefighters, meaning longer shifts and shorter rest periods.
00:31About 78% of volunteers and dozens of emergency responders have already been injured.
00:36In Spain, the government had promised they would have 14 amphibious aircraft available.
00:41These are the planes that can load thousands of litres of water directly from rivers,
00:47reservoirs and seas to pour onto the fires.
00:49Yet only seven are reported to be operational.
00:52The Secretary of State for the Environment has now said the regions must ration the use of these aircrafts.
00:57That's not exactly helpful in a situation like this.
01:00In the south of Spain, swimming pools and luxury villas are even being drained to help fight the blazers.
01:06The Americas have already started talking about how to discourage buildings in fire-prone areas
01:11and how to protect homes when that's not possible.
01:14It's time Europe did the same.
