00:05Brave and kind. Some of us are wired to be bold, quick to speak, clear about what we believe,
00:13ready to stand our ground. Some of us are more naturally kind, gentle, empathetic, relational,
00:19careful with words and deeply considerate of others. Most of us naturally lean more one way
00:26than the other. The challenge is that following Jesus and being good news people calls us to be
00:32both brave and kind. In Acts 4 we meet a group of believers under real pressure. Peter and John
00:39have just been released from prison. There's genuine risk in speaking about Jesus. You might
00:46expect them to pray for protection or a quieter life, but instead they pray for boldness. They
00:52ask God to help them speak His word with courage. And then, almost immediately, we see another
00:59astonishing side to their lives. These same believers are sharing everything they have.
01:05No one's left in need. Their lives are marked by radical generosity and practical care.
01:11They're brave and they're kind. If we only lean into courage we risk becoming harsh or combative,
01:18and we forget we're called to win souls, not argument. But if we only lean into kindness,
01:24we can become hesitant and silent, never quite getting around to sharing the hope we carry.
01:30The early church shows us a better way. They stood firm in what they believed, even when it was costly.
01:37And at the same time, they reached out with open hands and open hearts. For many of us,
01:43the sticking point is fear. We really don't want to be misunderstood, labeled, or rejected.
01:50We fear death by awkward conversation. We worry about strained relationship. And yet,
01:57again and again, we hear stories of people taking a small step, saying something simple about Jesus,
02:03offering to pray, or sharing their story, and God using it in ways they never expected.
02:09At the same time, we mustn't ever forget the power of kindness. People are rarely argued into the
02:16kingdom, but they're often loved into it. Don't underestimate the impact you could have by being
02:22generous with your time or resources, or by just listening to someone and being there for them.
02:28Maybe today's invitation is to allow God to stretch you a little. If you tend to hold back,
02:35where might you take a step of courage? And if you tend to be more direct, how might you choose
02:41gentleness and grace instead? God uses both. And as we practice both, living like good news people
02:48in this cultural moment, we begin to reflect Jesus more clearly to the world around us.
