00:00Cody Bellinger expected to miss four to six weeks after suffering a grade two hamstring strain.
00:05Bellinger felt the injury while rounding first base, but was still able to reach second
00:09and initially tried to remain in the game. So what exactly happens inside the muscle during
00:14a grade two strain? The hamstring is a major muscle group on the back of the thigh. It bends
00:20the knee and it extends the hip. So it's extremely important in running. It's important in many
00:26athletic activities like jumping. It's tears of the hamstring, extremely common in sports,
00:32are graded one through three with one being like a mild sprain of the muscle. Up to three is complete
00:38loss of muscle fiber organization, the muscles fibers. So a grade two is in between. There is
00:44disruption of the fibers, but it's an incomplete disruption of the fibers. Is there a possibility
00:49that continuing the play as he did made the injury worse here? This is kind of how it happens. Like
00:54people come up short, like you're running and you kind of come up short and you feel it
00:58and they're not sure. Is it like truly an injury? Is it not? Like just him reaching second base,
01:04it's unlikely that he like caused more damage from it. It's him kind of feeling it out. And maybe it's
01:10a low grade, maybe it's closer to a grade one, maybe it is a grade two, but you're not really
01:16going
01:16to make it worse unless you really pushed it or had some kind of like anti-inflammatory or anti-pain
01:22medication on board and will like continuing to play. Like, I think he actually did the right thing.
