God blesses Noah and his sons, commanding them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. Every living creature is given into their hand for food, yet they must not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. God establishes His everlasting covenant: never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood. The rainbow is set in the cloud as the sign of this covenant. The chapter continues with the account of Noah’s vineyard, his drunkenness, the actions of his sons, the curse upon Canaan, and the blessings upon Shem and Japheth.
