00:03This house was all about entertainment.
00:23Hello Bali Interiors, my name is Anna and this is the Freebird Project.
00:27And come and take a peek in my paradise.
00:42This is the Freebird Project, the home of my partner and our two kids.
00:48We've been building it now for three years.
00:50We chose to work with the architect Alexis Dornier
00:53We really enjoyed his approach to architecture with having a spiritual element and using natural materials.
01:00We wanted our home to be very grounding and also we wanted it to be very spacious
01:05and a lot of room for bringing our friends and our family and being in community and having parties.
01:17This is Guillaume and Sarah from COSAMI and they worked very closely with us in the interior design.
01:23Yeah, they helped take our vision into reality.
01:25Yeah, so we're interior designers and Dan and Anna contacted us to help them make their place cozy, comfortable and
01:34design at the same time.
01:35Yeah, we always wanted to work with Alexis and see how we can, as I said, complement and enhance, let's
01:41say, the buildings through the interior feelings, our furniture, our aesthetic.
01:56This is our kitchen area.
01:58We wanted to have like, I guess you call it a show kitchen.
02:01So we have a cocktail station here and coffee and this is where everything gets prepared.
02:09So we chose to do the kitchen counter and all the bathroom counters with glazed lava stone.
02:15So it's a very natural material comes straight from the volcano in Java.
02:20So it's natural material, of course, that's just glazed and it has a lot of details and contrast.
02:31So we really wanted the space here, the living and kitchen space to have a nice flow and to feel
02:37really open.
02:38So this is actually an old piece of piece of wood, actually, that we, it's an old tree that we
02:44cut into two pieces.
02:45Very, very rustic. So we wanted something very solid as well as a design statement, let's say, not only the
02:52functional purpose of the dining table.
02:57And here, so we wanted globally to keep very low profile in all the furniture as well, to enjoy the
03:02landscape.
03:03This house was all about entertainment. So you can see that there is many, many sittings.
03:08The home is kind of two zones. So on this side here is more for adults.
03:13We have a cocktail station and our conversation pit and a barbecue.
03:16And then over here, kids' playground, where the kids can jump off the pool, off the house into the pool,
03:22play on the grass.
03:29Of course, in any bedroom, we want the space to be very cozy. To make the place really cozy, we
03:35created a small living area in each guest bedroom.
03:39Then everything is custom made for the Freebird project. So all the art pieces are custom made with some suppliers.
03:45We try to mix a lot of texture materials to create a cozy space.
03:54In the guest bathrooms, we can find again that lava stone sinks.
04:00The sink itself is handmade and then we added some raw lava stone around it.
04:05So it gives the rawness of the stone, makes it very impressive.
04:13So this is our gym. We have a sauna and an ice bar, so we can do the full wellness
04:19routine.
04:23We partner with this brand called Nord from Germany.
04:27And they really wanted to help us on this project.
04:30They love the project.
04:32We wanted to have an integrated machine and it looks a little bit more elevated
04:36and keep having some wood and nice material.
04:40So now let me take you upstairs to our family quarters.
04:59So this area originally was just a roof.
05:02And Guillaume and Cyril had a great idea to put a spa full on this.
05:05Yeah, definitely. Since the master bedroom is here, we kind of privatized this area for you guys.
05:10Having some tranquil, let's say, bath at night.
05:14And yeah, the view is still amazing there.
05:16And then there is a family terrace there that is more for you to use of guests and everything.
05:26Okay, so in the master bedroom, these lounge chairs again that you saw downstairs.
05:31We also have our desk with this as-his chair where you can find the double fits.
05:36And we try to keep it minimalistic with some very pure lines.
05:41And then we open up the bathrooms.
05:44We really try to recreate some more light and enjoy the view actually on the rice fields when you take
05:49a bath.
05:50So this is a very special Japanese wood.
05:53When there's actually water on that type of wood, there's a special smell that comes out of it.
05:57So we really love the very calm, minimalistic style of this bathtub.
06:06So this is our kids bedroom.
06:09Originally, we hadn't really factored it into the design.
06:12So like, oh, would it be really nice to have some bunk beds and something fun for the kids when
06:18they get older?
06:19Yeah.
06:20Yeah, that was the brief.
06:21So we really wanted to give a special place for the kids so that they can both have fun, play
06:28and sleep.
06:30So we created an entire mezzanine space from scratch.
06:43So we had a few set things that I wanted to have in the playground.
06:48Yeah, so the space was very empty and we really wanted to implement everything that Anna wanted for the kids.
06:56And she had a very specific idea in mind for the kids to develop at their best.
07:01And obviously, we tried to put what would make the kids dream come true.
07:06This is an absolute dream for any kids that would go in here.
07:16As part of the project, we wanted to include two guest houses, two little villas that people can come and
07:22stay.
07:23Here definitely was a very exciting project.
07:26So here we enjoy, let's say, all of different material, being very into craftsmanship and wabi-sabi to the fullest.
07:34So this, there is two villas next to each other.
07:37This one being closer from the house, we make it bright.
07:40And on the opposite side, the other one is a bit darker.
07:44So we had the idea of having like this yin and yang project.
07:56So this is the Freebird Studio, passion project for me.
08:00And this place is called the gathering space, or it's now been named the grounding space, where people will come
08:05after a class.
08:06We wanted this to be a masterpiece and very huge design statement, as many, many people from outside will come
08:12and enjoy the space.
08:16So this is the yoga space, or meditation space, healing space.
08:21I mean, a lot of things go on up here.
08:24It actually, when we first designed it, was only meant to be to about here.
08:28And then, as the process went along, I asked if we can extend it,
08:32because I just felt like it needs to be expanded and for more people to come,
08:36and more people to experience healing and community and liberation in the Freebird.
08:57Thank you, Bali Interiors, for taking a peek in my paradise.
09:00I'll see you again soon.
09:04Bye-bye.
