00:00We've been contacted with so many residents for last year that they've had their air conditioning
00:04turned off by the managing company here. So as the heat wave has struck, they've been left
00:10sweltering inside, unable to properly open their windows, unable to get basic ventilation,
00:15so temperatures have been soaring to as high as 37 degrees in there. We even had reports of two
00:21children have been hospitalized. We're speaking to the council about making sure that people who
00:26are enduring this heat wave are able to at least have some amelioration of the heat with air
00:34conditioning where it's available. And so, you know, I'm hoping the council manage to persuade the
00:37landlord to, because there is air conditioning available, to allow tenants to use the air
00:42conditioning. I could understand if there wasn't air conditioning. We could have a conversation
00:45of how we can make sure tenants are kept cool, but there is air conditioning. And so it just seems
00:50wrong that tenants can't use it by virtue of the simple reason they're social tenants. I'm really
00:55hopeful that the council will persuade the landlord to allow those tenants to have access
01:00to air conditioning. Well, they've been trying to say that the air conditioning is all functional
01:04now. They never explained why it was turned off in the first place, which seemed to coincide
01:08exactly when the first heat wave started. They've now told us it's working, but I've been in the
01:12building today and I've met a resident whose air conditioning is still not working. I've also met
01:17another resident who's told me that the air conditioning has been locked at 24 degrees and they're
01:22unable to change it. So I'm not convinced at all the air conditioning is working in this building.
