00:00Many people are enjoying the summer by heading to the airport to visit friends and family
00:04or take a much-needed vacation. But canceled or delayed flights can really throw a wrench in your
00:10plans. MarketWatch reports that according to the U.S. Department of Transportation,
00:15flight cancellations are happening less frequently than last year. But if you do end up in this
00:19unfortunate situation, there are some things you can do to save money and time. Thrillist knows
00:25that if your flight is delayed more than two hours, you're entitled to compensation and you
00:30can ask for an actual check rather than vouchers. A travel expert tells CNN, quote,
00:35when flights are canceled, many airlines have the option of putting you on another carrier's flight
00:41because they have interline agreements. The site also knows that if you do wind up stuck in a city
00:46that's not your home, it's okay to ask the airline to put you up in a hotel or give you
00:51a hotel voucher.
00:52It's not required by law, but you may get lucky. MarketWatch notes that it will save you time and
00:57money to find your checked bags immediately after being notified the flight is canceled or delayed.
01:03This way you'll reduce the risk of being separated from your stuff.
