00:06One of the toughest things to do in all of college football is win on the road.
00:12When you're a ranked team going into a hostile environment, these fans are ready to knock
00:18them off course.
00:20Welcome to DeKalb, Illinois, and home to the Northern Illinois Huskies.
00:25As we'll see, the number 16 team in the country, the Kansas State Wildcats, taking on a team
00:32from the back, the Northern Illinois Huskies.
00:35For EA Sports College Football, Reese Davis with you alongside David Pollack and Jesse
00:39Palmer.
00:40Time to get this game started.
00:48Northern Illinois about to kick it off as we get things started.
00:56On the run from inside his own five.
00:59Couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25.
01:05The Wildcats' offense will get first crack at it today.
01:09And they're going to be met by one of the best defenses in the nation, David.
01:13And I know seeing a defense doing what they want, when they want to do it, makes you a
01:18happy man.
01:19Well, my defense is starting to make the comeback.
01:20Like, I'm excited about this new era of football.
01:23We're seeing better tackling, and we're seeing better coverage than we were a couple years
01:28ago.
01:28And this defense is fun to watch.
01:30Fun to watch them on tape.
01:31Fun to talk to their coaches.
01:33Jesse, this defense has been consistent all year long.
01:36And they're dialed in, and they're so talented.
01:38They've got multiple NFL draft picks on that side of the football.
01:41And they don't have to change a lot week to week.
01:44Like, this defense dominates.
01:45They do what they do.
01:47And they don't care if you know it.
01:49You can't do anything against them.
01:54He'll do it himself.
01:56And he scoots his way to the first down and then slides to avoid the hit.
02:01This is an offense that can move the sticks in a whole lot of different ways.
02:06Now you're seeing it on the option here.
02:07Great job by the quarterback.
02:09Reading the defense, there's nobody there taking him.
02:11So he puts his foot in the ground, he gets upfield.
02:14And he's got really nice elusiveness once he's out in the open field.
02:19He shows you that on that explosive play, picking up the first.
02:22Got him downfield.
02:24Good pick up there as he gets the first down.
02:26And they'll mark him at the 48.
02:29This offense is just so dynamic because they've got playmakers at all the skill positions, right?
02:34We just saw a big play in the running game.
02:35Now we see one in the passing game.
02:37There's not one dude that you can key on here if you're on defense.
02:41To try and slow them down.
02:45They'll ride the running back and leave it with him.
02:48Got enough for the first.
02:50They finally get him stopping.
02:52This veteran junior running back comes up with a nice play.
02:55Wow.
02:56Four plays on this drive by the offense.
02:58They already got three first downs.
03:00We knew they had a lot of playmakers coming into this game.
03:03And they're showing that right now.
03:05This defense is going to have to make a play at some point here.
03:07And stop the bleeding.
03:13They're going to go right back to him on first down.
03:16Able to pick up a couple down to the 27.
03:20And the defense doing a great job committing to the run.
03:24When you commit to the run like this, obviously, you can give up some plays in the passing game.
03:28But you've got to stop the run first.
03:31After the three-yard pick up, they come to the line second and seven.
03:38Off play action.
03:40Fires to the middle.
03:41He caught it.
03:43Can't quite cross the plane to get the six.
03:46But they'll have the first down.
03:48Well, you love to see this offensively.
03:50On the first drive of the game, your quarterback taking a shot down the middle of the defense.
03:55Finding a guy for a big play.
03:59But the Wildcats are threatening on first and goal.
04:06They'll run it.
04:08And to the end zone he goes.
04:11Touchdown, Wildcats.
04:13Well, I know a big question coming into this one was how locked in was this offense going to be
04:18early.
04:19We've seen offenses throughout the season struggle with rhythm and execution early in games.
04:24Not a problem for this offense here.
04:26In this game, in this environment, all 11 guys locked in.
04:31Great job running, throwing.
04:34Execution was beautiful.
04:35And they're able to cap off the opening drive of the game with a nice run to get on the
04:40board for a touchdown.
04:42They get set for the point afters.
04:43We have the first score of the game.
04:45And the PAT makes it 7-0.
04:49That is an efficient drive.
04:50Seven plays, 75 yards.
04:53And finished the deal with the short touchdown run from the two.
04:56Kickoff unit on the field.
04:58And this defense will be called on to protect this lead.
05:04He'll bring it back from inside his spot.
05:07Not a lot of space to be found.
05:10Good hustle by the coverage team.
05:11And they stop him at the 21.
05:14So Northern Illinois' offense has the ball for the first time.
05:18The matchup we'll be watching in this one really takes you back.
05:21Big time running back going right into the face of a tackling machine at linebacker David.
05:27Yeah, and we're going to see this individual battle a lot.
05:30Not just in pass coverage when they match up, but just meeting in holes.
05:33And who's going to win when they go head-to-head?
05:36That will be a big factor in who wins this football game.
05:40But Jesse, one-on-one, this is going to be a show.
05:42This is going to be an incredible matchup that's going to go on until there's zeros up on the clock.
05:47Both of these guys have circled this game on the calendar because they knew who they were going to be
05:51facing.
05:52And two guys we know are going to play at the next level.
05:54But I think this is probably one of the better individual matchups we're going to see all season long.
06:00Keeps it moving for a three-yard gain to the 24.
06:04Man, it's really hard to control the running game if you don't control the line of scrimmage.
06:08And how about the defensive line doing a great job attacking those guys up front.
06:12Not opening up lanes to run through.
06:15Nice job just nullifying that run altogether.
06:18They've got to come up with a big play on this third and long.
06:24From the gun, wants to pass.
06:26He hurls one deep down the left side.
06:30And it slips through his fingers.
06:32Incomplete.
06:33That would have been a huge gain if he could have held on.
06:37This is a point where you've just got to be able to focus.
06:39And the critical down and distances in this game, like that third down right there,
06:43when it's a good throw, you've got to make the catch.
06:45You've got to be able to make that play.
06:47Northern Illinois will line up to punt it away.
06:50The punter going to get his first work of the afternoon.
06:55Looks it in at the 40.
06:57Really good job by the coverage team to make the stop.
07:00And that's where they'll put it in play.
07:03K-State has the ball back.
07:04And the power cat offense returns to the field.
07:07Already a solid start to this one.
07:09Now back to work with this 7-0 lead.
07:12A nice job by the QB there, timing out that drag throw.
07:16It's zone coverage, so he's got to make sure he gets it to his receiver in a window
07:20to allow him to catch the ball and then turn it upfield.
07:26And the Wildcats in a good spot here with second and short.
07:34Got it behind the line.
07:35It's Brown.
07:36Turning it on!
07:38And this defense is a half a beat behind.
07:41They just can't quite keep up.
07:43They've got it down to the 21.
07:45I'll tell you, this guy has to get touches early in games.
07:49They're doing a good job of that right now.
07:50He's so dangerous once he has the ball in his hands.
07:53And I think if you're on offense, you move him around
07:56and you find more creative ways to get him involved.
08:08The Wildcats, after exploding for that huge run, back to work.
08:17Johnson wants to throw it.
08:19Firing for the end zone!
08:21Give him six!
08:24Touchdown, Kansas State!
08:27Quick strike touchdown comes out and jumpstarts the offense.
08:31And, man, we see this in college football.
08:33So much explosiveness and firepower.
08:35And we get high-scoring game after high-scoring game.
08:39And it looks like we're on pace for one of those right now.
08:56Lining up to tack one more onto that lead.
08:58Extra point.
09:03And the extra point makes it 14-0.
09:06Quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive.
09:10And they finish things off with a 21-yard touchdown pass.
09:16They're getting set to kick it away.
09:18And that last score took a little oomph out of this crowd.
09:23From inside, his own 10.
09:25Let's see what he gets.
09:27He was hoping for something a little more dynamic
09:30that they get him on the ground at the 20.
09:32A lot of field in front of them
09:34as they open this possession from their own 20.
09:37Wants to go up top on first down.
09:41Makes the grab along the sidelines.
09:44And they get enough for the first down.
09:55Guys, it's Kansas State who carries the lead into the quarter break.
09:58Man, that was an impressive and dominant first quarter.
10:03Let's take a look at the stats before we move on.
10:10Just about ready to get things started here in the second.
10:13We'll see if they continue to flex that muscle.
10:16First play of the period.
10:17First down here.
10:24Looking downfield on first down.
10:26Got his man quickly.
10:28And a really nice job by the wide receiver.
10:30You run a drag route.
10:31Fine space.
10:33They're in zone coverage.
10:34They're not covering man to man.
10:35Find a little hole.
10:37Look at that QB.
10:38Y'all get on the same page.
10:39You could tell they were, and that's why they got the first down.
10:42And the Huskies with myriad options after that big pickup on first down.
10:49Making sure they have good balance.
10:51Keeping it on the ground.
10:52And he's swallowed up at the line of scrimmage by the big defensive tackle.
10:58It's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that.
11:03And runs to the football like that.
11:05Good luck.
11:05No holes anywhere.
11:07The Huskies really need to keep this drive alive on third down.
11:12They'll try to get it through the air.
11:15Throws to the wide out.
11:17Catch in the middle.
11:18It's Bryant.
11:19He's got first down yardage as they move it to the 44.
11:23Nice job by the receiver on the in route there.
11:26And how about the speed?
11:26After he made his break, he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB,
11:30helping out his QB on that one.
11:32This Northern Illinois offense continues to move quickly.
11:41Rides to back and leaves it on the option.
11:44Pass to Stiggs.
11:45And he may get more.
11:46Good.
11:47Solid pickup there.
11:48Now they can start to smell it with the first down at the 31.
11:53Well, obviously, the offense went three and out on their last drive.
11:56They're having a little bit more success here.
11:57That was a nice run.
11:58And I think that's the key, guys.
12:00If they're able to run the football, they're going to be able to stay on the field.
12:04And I think that's something you want to think more about if you're the play caller on offense.
12:09And the defense gets home and makes a play at the 37-yard line.
12:14And this offense, man, they're going to have to figure something out.
12:17This is already getting out of hand, but they're going to have to protect their quarterback.
12:20They're going to have to start throwing the football and having some success.
12:23Because right now, they've got a bagel up on the scoreboard.
12:34Really need to find a productive play this time on second and long.
12:39Wants to go up top.
12:42Part of the backfield.
12:43It's Johnson.
12:44Didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help.
12:47Short game there.
12:48Still plenty of ground to cover for the first down.
12:52You know, sometimes even a short game like that can be used to set up something bigger later on.
12:57No doubt, Reese.
12:58They can pump that and take a shot down the field.
13:00And don't worry.
13:01They're going to go back to that same play.
13:03Because they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous.
13:06He makes one guy miss.
13:07He can take it to the house.
13:10He'll take a shot.
13:13Oh, he dropped it.
13:15That deep ball was right on the money.
13:17You just have to make that catch.
13:20Nice job by the defense.
13:21They're mixing up their look.
13:22They're third and long in field goal range.
13:25They go zone coverage.
13:26So everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback.
13:28And they're able to break on the ball, force the incompletion.
13:31And they'll have to settle for a field goal try.
13:37He boomed it through.
13:39A 50-yard field goal showing off that powerful leg.
13:44And not to be the old guys in the booth, but we are the old guys in the booth.
13:47Man, 50-yard field goals used to be really, really hard.
13:50Kickers nowadays, man, they are making it look so much easier.
13:54And he does right there.
13:57They'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive.
14:01It's a minute.
14:05He'll start the return inside his five.
14:09Nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22.
14:15Let's see if they can get something going here late in the half.
14:19They'll run the counter.
14:22Oh, he got loose.
14:23He gets those chains moving, gets it out to the 42-yard line.
14:29It's so hard to play defense when you've got things in front of you.
14:33And everybody going one direction, somebody coming back the other direction.
14:36You can't trust your eyes.
14:38Really good job by the offense giving you some eye candy.
14:41Something to look at so it wasn't easy coming downhill right at you.
14:45Hard to diagnose plays.
14:46This offense will snap it from the 42 on first and 10.
14:54Johnson looking to throw.
14:57And the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down.
15:02Really good coverage by this defense.
15:04They were aware of everyone on the field and including the running back.
15:07A lot of times those guys get lost in the shuffle, but they saw him.
15:11They knew the ball was going to him.
15:12They braked on it.
15:13Did a good job and got in his face just enough to cause him to lose some focus and drop
15:19that football.
15:21On second down, he'll try to make the connection this time.
15:24And the pass is incomplete, jarred loose by the hit.
15:28And the big tight end, a lot of times that's a bigger strike zone, a bigger dude.
15:33And you could tell they put the hit on him.
15:35And that ball came out and it came to the turf.
15:38Nice job playing physical by this defense.
15:41They'll come to the line at the 42, facing a third and long.
15:48From the gun, wants to pass.
15:51Pressure coming.
15:52Got out of trouble and throws.
15:54And they'll stop him about five yards short of the first.
15:59We've got a timeout here late in the first half,
16:01and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break.
16:04Kansas State will have to putter it away.
16:11A fairly short distance here toward the sidelines.
16:15Not his best work.
16:25Used to play fake.
16:26Now to throw.
16:28Makes the catch along the sidelines and steps out of bounds.
16:32We've got like that big, reliable security line.
16:35And that's what tight ends are a lot of times.
16:37They're just usually big, huge guys that if I throw it anywhere near them,
16:40he's going to pluck it, catch it, and give me some positive yards.
16:44They're dealing with a second and long.
16:51Looking to fire.
16:54Pocket breaking down.
16:55And the heat gets there.
16:57And they get him down.
16:58It's a 14-yard line.
17:01Timeout is called, and it's the defense running to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big
17:07down.
17:08Now a lot of work to do to move the chains, keep this drive alive after that earlier sack.
17:15On third and long.
17:16Try to convert through the air.
17:18He lobs one high down the left side.
17:21And trying to put points on the board on third down.
17:24Now they're staring at fourth down.
17:27That's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down.
17:30You set up third and longs like that.
17:31You can show your exotic looks.
17:33You can get the pass rush going.
17:34And everybody in the back end expecting throw.
17:37And that's how you force incompletions and force fourth down.
17:40Northern Illinois will line up to punt it away.
17:46At midfield trying to turn it upfield.
17:50And the returner will be brought down.
17:53They take over late and they have enough time to put together a drive.
17:58Johnson wants to throw it.
17:59Quickly out to the tight end.
18:02Didn't pick up a lot there.
18:03Moved it forward just a few.
18:06You know, I know it seems like an easy pitch and catch.
18:08But for the tight end there, that route potentially changes if it's man coverage.
18:12So good job by him knowing it's zone.
18:14I'm just going to sit down.
18:15This is basically like a check down, right?
18:17Let's just take the easy pitch and catch and keep this drive going.
18:21Back to throw.
18:22Time running short in the half.
18:24Grabbed in the middle.
18:25It's Oakland.
18:26He stopped at the 32.
18:28It'll be a first down in the waiting seconds of the half.
18:32Well, this tight end is so athletic that at times they'll line him up in different parts of the field.
18:37That time he was in the slot.
18:39Nice job running the route, finding the open space in the defense for the completion.
18:43They'll snap this one from the 32.
18:45It's first down.
18:49Grabbed behind the line.
18:51It's Edwards.
18:52And just a short, safe pass play.
18:54They pick up a few.
18:56Quick timeout call by the offense after the play.
18:59And that's kind of a lot of today's running game, right?
19:02Spit the ball out quick.
19:04Get it to your playmakers in space.
19:06Get positive yards.
19:07It's instead of running the ball a couple yards up the middle.
19:10Now you just spit it out wide.
19:11And a lot of times if you break a few tackles, it could be even bigger.
19:14He is going nowhere.
19:16Stop at the line of scrimmage.
19:19Yeah, and a great job by the defense, holding the line of scrimmage, playing downhill, playing responsibility football,
19:27making sure they shut down that option play.
19:29Just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime.
19:36Takes a shot as he lets it go.
19:39He can't make the grab.
19:41It's incomplete, but there is a flag, and I believe this is going to be pass interference.
19:52So the pass interference in the end zone will give them a free 15.
19:55Remember the difference in this rule and the pros.
19:58Ball is not placed at the one-yard line in this situation.
20:02That thing would have hit a string in the middle of the uprights.
20:05Perfect.
20:06And now the lead is even bigger.
20:09That's going to wrap up the first half here.
20:11And now we join Kevin with the halftime update.
20:13Fellas, looks like you've got a great scene there today in DeKalb.
20:19And how do we possibly begin without singing the praises of this receiver?
20:24His ability to find gaps, run textbook routes, and then show that breakaway speed.
20:30He simply is the total package.
20:33How this secondary responds, whether they try to double-team him or get aggressive at the line,
20:38that'll be the story of this second half.
20:41And with that, let's send it back to the guys at Husky Stadium.
20:49Kansas State will kick off as we get things started here in the third quarter.
20:57And he takes this from inside the five.
21:00And the returner will be dragged down.
21:03The Northern Illinois offense ready to go back to work.
21:06Maybe adjustments or attitude or attitude adjustments,
21:09but they've got to find a way to run the ball at least some here in the second half.
21:13I do think you said something that's important.
21:15I think running the football is an attitude.
21:17Like, it starts with the offensive lineman and being physical, having a nasty attitude.
21:21Running back, same thing.
21:22I think they need more of that in the second half.
21:24You know, and I think if any of you're this defense,
21:26you have an opportunity to make a statement here.
21:28Yeah, I know you guys went in at halftime and you riled yourselves up
21:31and you told yourself that you think you can run the ball on us.
21:34On this very first drive, we're going to prove to you,
21:36just like in the first 30 minutes, you cannot.
21:39Lions is way ahead for three, out to the 16.
21:43And that run really didn't go anywhere.
21:44And a lot of times we don't focus on it enough.
21:46But how important those five guys are up front
21:49to get on those defensive linemen, to try to move them out of the way,
21:52to get a run game going.
21:53It squarely falls on the shoulder of those five offensive linemen.
21:58And this offense just has to find a way to convert this third down.
22:02Or else, and the defense makes a play, sacking him back at the 10.
22:07This offense has to do a better job protecting their quarterback.
22:11They're already down two possessions.
22:13You know the pass has to come at some point, but they've got to keep him clean.
22:17They can't get behind the sticks consistently.
22:20They've got to start to narrow this gap.
22:27Northern Illinois will line up to punt it away.
22:31Doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt.
22:35He just wanted to get it out of there from his end zone.
22:40Good job by the coverage unit to stop the return man.
22:45And here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field.
22:49They'll see if they can find some running room on the right here.
22:53Makes his man miss.
22:54And a good, solid pickup before the defense cuts him down.
22:59And I kind of like how the running back didn't mess around.
23:02Like, just get downhill when you see an opening.
23:04A lot of times they close so fast, man.
23:06Be decisive.
23:07Stick your foot in the ground.
23:09Pick up three to four.
23:10And we are not going to complain.
23:13Halfway there on first down.
23:14It's second and five.
23:16Johnson looking to throw.
23:18Oh, what a spectacular layout and catch.
23:22How about the zip this junior put on that ball to pick up the first down?
23:27Man, I love the catch radius on this guy.
23:30If you just put it somewhere near his body, he's going to be able to reel it in.
23:34And that was a phenomenal job, showing you his athleticism and also his concentration, making that outstanding grab.
23:43There he goes.
23:45Nice pickup on the ground there.
23:47And they'll move the sticks with the first down.
23:50First down, you know you always want to establish the running game.
23:53How about this offense?
23:54Nothing fancy.
23:55Run the football.
23:56Be physical.
23:57Get a big game.
24:00And the Wildcats will line it up on first and ten.
24:09They want to run this quarterback.
24:11And he gets it just beyond the line of scrimmage before he gets down.
24:16You know, I really like this QB running the football because I know he's got a lot of speed.
24:20But he's not the biggest guy in the world.
24:21So he's not going to be able to break a lot of tackles.
24:24You've really got to do a good job of trying to scheme ways to get him out in more space.
24:30Operating in the red zone here on second down.
24:33Quarterback on the keeper.
24:35They'll knock him down for a loss of a couple.
24:39Phenomenal job by the defense that time.
24:41Shutting down the option play.
24:42They knew they were going to see this in this game.
24:45And all week long in practice, they really focused on this.
24:48Assignment football.
24:49Making sure the dive, the quarterback, the pitch, all taken away.
24:54Nowhere to go with the football that time.
24:55And offensively, the defense coming up with a huge negative play.
25:00Quick touch pass to the receiver.
25:03And to the end zone.
25:06Touchdown, Wildcats.
25:08Touchdown, Kansas City.
25:10Number 12 in the end zone.
25:31They'll try to add another to their lead.
25:38And he puts through the extra point.
25:40So that scoring drive took only six plays.
25:44And they finish it off by connecting from ten yards out.
25:48Kickoff unit getting some extra work as this lead has really grown.
25:57Fielded in the end zone.
25:58It's Poe.
25:59And the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down.
26:03Opening play of this drive comes from the 13-yard line.
26:07They'll start this drive going to the air.
26:11On target to the left.
26:13Finally corraled, but not before.
26:15He picked up the first down.
26:18Well, it's a nice play design there.
26:19You're getting the running back involved in the pass game.
26:22Quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work upfield and get the first down.
26:28They gave themselves room to operate with that first play.
26:31Now first down from the 37.
26:35Looking to throw on first down.
26:37Rush is on him.
26:39Here comes the rush.
26:40And they've got it wrapped up at the 28.
26:44Nice coverage on the back end.
26:46Great job.
26:47Nothing open right away.
26:48The QB holds the ball in the pocket.
26:49And the pass rush finally gets home.
26:52Sometimes it's the DBs doing great work.
26:54Sometimes it's the defensive lineman winning up front.
27:04And the Huskies have put themselves in dire straits after that last play.
27:09It's second and a mile.
27:13Back to pass.
27:15Here's the pressure.
27:17And this defense is bringing the heat another sack.
27:22And this defense just continues to dominate the football game.
27:25This score is lopsided.
27:27It's not looking good.
27:28But I know one thing.
27:29If you can't protect that guy, there's no chance for you to win this game or the future games.
27:42Now a lot of work to do to move the chains.
27:45Keep this drive alive after that earlier sack.
27:48On third and long, you'll have to turn it loose deep.
27:52Got out of trouble.
27:53Got rid of it.
27:54Got his man.
27:55He is not going to get there.
27:58Stopped short of the line to gain.
27:59And it'll be fourth down.
28:01And you want to talk about his favorite receiver.
28:04It might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands
28:10in the passing game.
28:12One more quarter to play.
28:13And it might be unlikely.
28:14But, hey, it's college football.
28:16Comebacks happen.
28:18On fourth down.
28:20Going to the air.
28:21He lofted high and deep down the left side.
28:24Oh, he had it.
28:26The deep ball was there.
28:27And it just trickled through his fingers.
28:29And that decision will be questioned for a while.
28:34They'll leave it with him.
28:36Finds a little space.
28:38Breaks into the open.
28:40Touchdown, Kansas State.
28:42And they add six more to the board with that trick to the house.
28:46Number three.
28:47His defense is going to have to do a better job being physical.
28:50That's two rushing touchdowns they've now allowed.
28:52They have got to be better close to the line of scrimmage.
29:20Lining up to tack one more onto that lead.
29:27And he splits the uprights on the extra point.
29:30That's taking advantage of a golden opportunity set up with great field position.
29:35And they struck quickly for the touchdown.
29:38Three.
29:40The kickoff unit is out there.
29:43And, boy, did that last drive quiet this crowd.
29:49On the move from inside is five.
29:51And the returner will be brought down.
29:54Guys, we'll see what the plan is for this Northern Illinois offense.
29:59What a turn that last drive was.
30:01Didn't pick up the fourth down.
30:03And it led to the scoring drive, David.
30:05And those are frustrating because you think you might get points and then your defense gives up points.
30:10This has got to be a complimentary football-type deal.
30:13The offense now needs to provide a little spark and give this defense some hope.
30:16No doubt, David.
30:17They've got to turn the page.
30:18And they've got to play with a little bit more urgency here knowing they've got to get that one back
30:22and put a good drive together.
30:25Wants to fire on second down.
30:27Snagged in the middle.
30:28It's Bryant.
30:29And he won't quite get there.
30:32But, boy, after that pickup, just a few inches to go for the first.
30:36An array of possibilities here.
30:44The Huskies lining up just needing a few tough inches on third down.
30:51They'll try to sneak it.
30:53Got the first down and more.
30:55All down, but he has enough to move the chains.
31:00And, David, on third and inches right there, that's often a decision the quarterback predetermines.
31:03Who's my best guard?
31:04That's the guy I'm going to try to get behind.
31:06And I know that defensively, too.
31:08But I'm just trying to dive and create a pile.
31:10But it's so hard to stop that play.
31:12That's why you see it ran so successfully.
31:16The handoff to Johnson.
31:18Shows him the stiff arm.
31:20Forges ahead.
31:21Picks up about three to the 29.
31:24And, man, the big fellas up front, they don't get a lot of credit.
31:27They don't get talked about a lot unless it's negative.
31:29But they're the big component, man.
31:31They've got to get some push to get some running lanes, get this running game going.
31:35They're the ones that make it go.
31:38Got three on first down.
31:39It's second and seven.
31:42They'll run play action.
31:45Got it in the middle.
31:46It's Johnson.
31:47And the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game.
31:51You've got to like this defense, man.
31:53All game long, great job tackling the football.
31:57Like, you throw it on the perimeter.
31:58They're coming up.
31:59They're not giving the run after the catch of these receivers.
32:01A lot of times you see so much damage done after the catch.
32:05This defense has been dialed in.
32:07And the big play has been a non-issue.
32:10This is a designed run.
32:13Oh, he's got some space.
32:15Really nice pickup there as they have it out to the 44 with the first down.
32:21And already it's completely changed the game.
32:23Like, now it's 11 on 11 football.
32:25The quarterback used to hand it off and stand there and watch the play.
32:28Now he's very much involved in the play.
32:31He's running the football so much.
32:32Even when he's not, he's making somebody go with him and cover him.
32:36So, the quarterback scrambling, the quarterback running has completely changed the way people play defense.
32:43Can't hold on.
32:44He had it right down the middle and he flat dropped it.
32:48And I absolutely love what this defense is doing, man.
32:51You know exactly what time it is.
32:53You've got a big lead.
32:54They're going to have to throw the football.
32:56So, more nickels, more dimes.
32:58Bring the speed on the field and get ready to play the pass.
33:01Plenty of work to do here on second and long.
33:05They go to the ground.
33:08They'll give him four on that one.
33:10It's third and six.
33:12Two minutes now left and this one in time is running short if they want to find a way to
33:17pull this one out.
33:24Eighth play at the drive coming.
33:25It'll be a third and six.
33:30Trying to move them on the counter.
33:32And that ball is live in the backfield.
33:35Recovered by the defense and he's off.
33:38They dragged him down pretty quickly but the defense forced a big turnover.
33:43As a defender, you love the big hits.
33:46And you know what the cherry on the sundae is?
33:48When you get the big hit and force the fumble.
33:58K-State has the ball back and the power cat offense returns to the field.
34:03They're in command of this game.
34:04Now let's see if they try to rub a little salt in the wound or happy with getting the W.
34:09Yeah, and listen, this makes the post-game handshake fun sometimes.
34:12If you do choose to rub a little salt in it and keep chucking and keep scoring, I'm here for
34:18it, Jesse.
34:18Like, your job is to score points.
34:20It's my job to stop it.
34:21Keep the foot to the accelerator.
34:23Keep trying to play ball.
34:24I agree a thousand percent.
34:26That's like Steve Spurrier back in the day when I was playing for the Gators.
34:28You go and play for him because you want the opportunity to throw the ball.
34:32So when you get in the game late, you're not handing it off.
34:34We were beating Central Michigan by 80-something points.
34:36He was still letting us throw the football.
34:38It's the defense's job to stop you.
34:43Not much running room there thanks to this senior defender.
34:47And I'm a fan of this, man.
34:48Run the football.
34:49Eat the clock.
34:50We got the lead.
34:51This offense has put together a nice day, man.
34:53Like, just balance, rhythm, timing, play calling.
34:56Everything is work.
34:57That's why they built this lead.
34:59They've had a great day today.
35:01Didn't get much on first down.
35:03It's second and nine.
35:09Wide receiver comes in motion.
35:12A designed run for the quarterback.
35:15Gets it past the marker.
35:17They'll make the stop, but that first down ought to ice it,
35:20and they should be able to kneel this one out.
35:23You know, we talk about quarterbacks having to make quick decisions,
35:26and I think you saw it on that play.
35:28Nobody opened downfield.
35:29He just decided to take off.
35:32Kansas State back at it after picking up the first down.
35:42Looking for a crease.
35:43It's Edwards.
35:45And this play will be for no gain, and that is going to do it.
35:50Final play of the fourth quarter.
35:52No gain.
35:53As a result.
35:54I'm sorry.
35:54I'm feeing Kansas State.
35:55I'm blocked.
35:57No.
35:57No.
35:58No.
35:59No.
36:01No.
