00:00:05it's madden nfl 22 and the question is are you ready for some football it's the chiefs and the
00:00:12titans and it's coming up next well it may be a bit soggy but that certainly hasn't deterred this
00:00:30fan base a great crowd on hand to battle the raindrops at nissan stadium in nashville
00:00:35the whole of downtown nashville likely still reverberating with the sounds of the titans
00:00:40taking the field a moment ago they're ready for football as their titans are set to match up
00:00:46with the kansas city chiefs
00:00:55welcome again everybody with charles davis i'm brandon gunn and yes the rain is falling now and
00:01:01it is supposed to continue to fall throughout this game so how do you think that will impact this
00:01:05contest well first and foremost both quarterbacks are going to make sure the officials have those
00:01:10dry footballs coming in each and every play and standing over them sometimes with a towel before
00:01:15the center gets up there to snap it second thing is the focus of all the guys who handle the
00:01:20football
00:01:20do they wear gloves do they take them off will they carry the ball high and tight to make sure
00:01:25they have good ball security that's paramount in a game like this
00:01:35so
00:01:42so
00:02:43Simply put, for many, he's a gold standard for quarterbacks in today's NFL because of his ability to create, find
00:02:50the open man, use all the different arm angles that he has.
00:02:54He's a complete package, and boy, his team loves to play around him.
00:03:01Fights loose, and he'll get this up over the 25 to the 26.
00:03:07Nine yards is the pick up there, and they'll have a second and one.
00:03:11The success there, Charles coming on the outside of the field, the ground game, curious to see if that continues
00:03:15as we progress.
00:03:16Yeah, we often talk about a variety in play calling and usually between run and pass, but in this case,
00:03:22with strictly the run game, you can be creative there as well.
00:03:25Run it inside, run it outside, keep the defense off balance.
00:03:29And this carry now is for deep to be swallowed up at the line of scrimmage.
00:03:34No gain on the play, and now they're faced with a third and one.
00:03:39As usual, the hallmark of a good run defense, linebackers making plays near the line of scrimmage.
00:03:44Absolutely nowhere to run there.
00:03:46They'll just play number three here on the opening drive, and it's an early third and one.
00:03:51Edwards-Alaire, they'll try to run for it.
00:03:54Oh, and Edwards-Alaire, I don't think he got there.
00:03:57He did not, they'll stop him short.
00:03:59Nothing doing on second and third down after that nine-yard gain on first.
00:04:04Strong start by this defense, third and short, they go with a run, Stonewall for no gain.
00:04:09I played for a guy who always talked about setting tones and meeting force with force.
00:04:14That felt like it on that play, didn't it?
00:04:17And they met it in a big way and won.
00:04:19What a great job by the defense.
00:04:21On fourth down, Tommy Townsend to punt for Kansas City.
00:04:27And now a low liner, I think he mishit it.
00:04:30Fair catch called for, no gimme in these conditions, but he's able to look this one in.
00:04:34Here comes the Tennessee offense, and you see Ryan Tannehill leading them out.
00:04:39And one of the things that has really impressed me about Ryan Tannehill has been his perseverance.
00:04:44Early in his career, didn't have the success that he desired.
00:04:48Had some injuries that slowed his development, but he kept working at his craft.
00:04:52And now, he's a guy that I think you can put a game on his shoulders.
00:04:59Now a first carry for Derrick Henry.
00:05:01And he'll take it across the 50 and into Chief Territory.
00:05:06Seven yards on the pick up there, and it'll leave him with a second and three.
00:05:10A nice run here early on.
00:05:12It doesn't take a great play call to realize.
00:05:13You want to establish a guy of his caliber who runs like this early,
00:05:16because they'll pay dividends as the game progresses.
00:05:19So they'll come up after the gain of seven on a second and three.
00:05:26Tannehill going to turn and give this to Henry.
00:05:28And he'll get this down only to about the 46.
00:05:31They got two of the three they needed there.
00:05:33Leaves them with third in just a yard.
00:05:36Ladies and gentlemen, that is a force of nature.
00:05:39At the defensive tackle position.
00:05:41Yes, he's as big as they come, but still plenty agile.
00:05:43He's able to make a nice play there to swallow up the ball carrier.
00:06:09Tannehill going to throw on third and one.
00:06:12Going for the deep ball.
00:06:14And too much juice.
00:06:15It'll be out of bounds, incomplete.
00:06:18A deep ball down that right sideline,
00:06:20and he made sure that he put it where either his guy was going to catch it
00:06:23or no one was.
00:06:42And no move to get the offense off the field.
00:06:45They'll stay put on fourth and one.
00:06:48They'll run.
00:06:49It's Henry.
00:06:51Fighting through, and he's got space.
00:06:53But he gets us from inside the 15,
00:06:56just a yard or two shy of the 10.
00:06:59It's a big play there on fourth down.
00:07:02Well, that is a running back who is not about to go down easily.
00:07:05He fought his way through the contact until the seas opened up for him.
00:07:09And with a guy his size, you have to know defensively
00:07:11that arm tackles aren't going to fly with him.
00:07:14You have to be able to wrap up,
00:07:15or else he can just brush tacklers aside like they're not even there.
00:07:19And you can see the distance traveled there after the initial contact on the next-gen stats.
00:07:24So how about this for field position after the big play?
00:07:27Inside the 15 now as they come up on first and 10.
00:07:34And they'll try the jet sweep here.
00:07:36And he'll take this one inside the 10 down to the 8.
00:07:39A gain of three.
00:07:41Second down.
00:07:42Let's just make this one succinct.
00:07:44Nice job there.
00:07:45All-level guys on defense diagnosing the jet sweep and putting it down.
00:07:52The ball on the 8.
00:07:53Still can get a first down technically.
00:07:56Second and 7.
00:08:00Now a handoff to Henry.
00:08:02And he'll be brought down right on the edge of the goal line at about the 1-yard line.
00:08:0750 yards rushing for him as he's got the afternoon off to a great start.
00:08:12And we were down in the field watching Henry warm up before the game.
00:08:16He's a big man.
00:08:16And no wonder he breaks those tackles.
00:08:18And you remember what I told you when we were watching?
00:08:20It's not all pads.
00:08:21And you get him out of pads and just see him in a regular suit or an outfit.
00:08:25He is a huge human being and a lot faster than what people know.
00:08:30When he gets rolling, he's a lot to bring down.
00:08:33It's a loss of a yard there.
00:08:35And now second down.
00:08:36When a draw works, it can be a thing of beauty.
00:08:39But when it doesn't, oh, it can be ugly.
00:08:41And in this case, loss of yardage ugly.
00:08:44Get out of here, baby.
00:08:56Back at the 2 now.
00:08:58Here's second and goal.
00:08:59Let's go, Dean.
00:09:00Big series right here.
00:09:01We've got to step it up.
00:09:03A toss left.
00:09:04Henry.
00:09:05And he gets in.
00:09:07Touchdown, Tennessee.
00:09:10Derrick Henry taking it in for two yards out.
00:09:15And the Titans have taken a first quarter lead.
00:09:19Well, first quarter, maybe too early to talk about statement drives, Charles.
00:09:23But that sure seemed like a statement drive right there.
00:09:26Well, if we're going to talk about statement drives, I think what they're saying is we're going to establish the
00:09:31run.
00:09:31They gave it to him early and often on this drive.
00:09:34And he wound up taking it into the end zone.
00:09:39Tucker McCann now for the extra point.
00:09:47And we'll see if this rain affects the team's decisions going forward.
00:09:50But they kick it here, and it's good.
00:09:54So that drive goes eight plays.
00:09:57And Derrick Henry able to finish it off with a touchdown run.
00:09:59And Derrick Henry able to finish it off.
00:10:29Derrick Henry's got it teed up.
00:10:36Pringle going to stay in the end zone, and this will come out to the 25.
00:10:42Kansas City taking the field for their second drive.
00:10:45And they'll certainly be trying to do better than that first drive where they went three and out.
00:10:49And sometimes the first drive is just simply to settle nerves.
00:10:53You know what it's like at the start of a game with the emotion.
00:10:55Guy's a little bit jumpy.
00:10:57I don't know what you do.
00:10:57Oh, you understand the same way.
00:10:59It's just like us calling one, right?
00:11:00Making sure we ease into the game, let it come to us.
00:11:03Well, you went three and out.
00:11:04And not have that opportunity.
00:11:07No, you didn't go three and out.
00:11:08I went three and out on that first drive.
00:11:09I'm trying to do better.
00:11:12But when you hit him on the move like that,
00:11:14he's able to get into open field with a full head of steam.
00:11:17Oh, boy, it's going to be tough to get him down.
00:11:19Yeah, there was a big window.
00:11:20They're lucky they did get him down.
00:11:37First and ten, it's Edwards O'Leary with it.
00:11:40And he'll be taken down at the 44-yard line.
00:11:43It's a six-yard pickup, but it gets him to second and four.
00:11:46A quick burst there and he nicely bit off.
00:11:49A pretty decent game.
00:12:04Second down, back to Edwards O'Leary.
00:12:07And he's going to be brought down on what will be the final play of this first quarter.
00:12:12After 1-7-0 on EA Sports.
00:12:20The Chiefs with the football as we start the second quarter.
00:12:24As they've got it with a first and ten.
00:12:31To throw, it's Mahomes.
00:12:33The tight end, Kelsey, has it over the middle.
00:12:36And this will leave him a yard short.
00:12:38Nice pickup of nine yards on first down.
00:12:42And, Brandon, as you know, sometimes it's a lot tougher to run with these tight ends nowadays in the NFL.
00:12:47But just bigger wide receivers.
00:12:48He lined up on the left side of the formation.
00:12:50Ran a drag route across the field.
00:12:52And tried to work his way open.
00:12:54He was able to make the catch.
00:12:56But the defenders were there.
00:12:57Couldn't do a whole lot with it afterwards.
00:13:00From the 31.
00:13:01Mahomes.
00:13:03May it open is Robinson.
00:13:05And down he goes, taking it inside the ten, just shy of the five at the six.
00:13:11Boy, how about the speed with which this offense can get down the field.
00:13:14It's taking them no time at all to get down here.
00:13:17And now they're set up with a first and goal.
00:13:18And now they're set up with a first and goal.
00:13:41Here's Mahomes to throw.
00:13:46Toward the end zone.
00:13:48But that's going to wind up incomplete.
00:13:50And I can see the officials kind of looking at each other down there.
00:13:53Silently wondering, does this meet the level of grounding?
00:13:56Fortunately, he did have a receiver in the area.
00:13:58But I have seen less obvious throwaways called as penalties.
00:14:02They come up here with another shot from the six-yard line.
00:14:06And it's second and goal now.
00:14:09Now it's Mahomes again.
00:14:11And it's caught.
00:14:12That time the completion goes for four yards.
00:14:15And we're set up with a third and goal.
00:14:35Mahomes now to throw.
00:14:38And that's caught.
00:14:39It's Kelsey.
00:14:41Touchdown, Kansas City.
00:14:43A three-yard touchdown pass.
00:14:46And the Chiefs are an extra point away from tying up this football game.
00:14:51You get down near the goal line.
00:14:53This is where having a sure-handed tight end becomes a luxury.
00:14:55And it pays off big time,
00:14:57especially when the defense sells out against the run.
00:14:59And he finds himself open for an easy touchdown.
00:15:03Harrison Bunker is on for the extra point.
00:15:10It's up and good.
00:15:11And we're tied at seven here in quarter number two.
00:15:16So that one at eight-play drive.
00:15:18It spans 75 yards.
00:15:20And it winds up with the Chiefs hitting Pater.
00:15:47So I'll leave it at seven now as they kick it away.
00:15:54From a yard or two deep, here comes a return.
00:15:57And a nice job there on special teams.
00:16:00Deliver him to inside the 15 as he's dropped at the 14.
00:16:06The Titans coming back onto the field for their second drive.
00:16:09And they're hoping to redo their efforts in the last drive
00:16:11when they got into the end zone.
00:16:12And just think of what it's like now on the sideline.
00:16:15Because when you score a touchdown,
00:16:16you have to go over and look at the tablet
00:16:17and see what you did on the last drive.
00:16:19When you scored points,
00:16:21it's a whole lot better view
00:16:22than when you're trying to figure out how to fix things there.
00:16:26And that one off the mark behind him.
00:16:29Incomplete.
00:16:29I know coaches tell us all the time that having a powerful arm
00:16:32isn't the number one thing they look for in a quarterback.
00:16:34But when you're trying to throw inside routes
00:16:37and you need to put some heat on it,
00:16:39it helps to have the big gun.
00:16:40In this case, just a little bit too much.
00:16:43Second and ten.
00:16:51Again to Henry.
00:16:54And he'll use his blockers to get this up over the 20 to the 21.
00:16:5959 yards rushing for him now in the ballgame.
00:17:02That was a really nice run there to bring up third and short.
00:17:05After the incompletion on first down,
00:17:07it's awfully nice to have a running back that you can hand it to
00:17:09and put you back in a good situation.
00:17:15Now a play fake, and it's Tannehill.
00:17:18He sets to fire deep.
00:17:20And it's incomplete.
00:17:22Took a shot, couldn't connect.
00:17:25And this is what you want to see from a defense.
00:17:27Give up an opening drive touchdown?
00:17:29That's fine.
00:17:30But how about them going back out there,
00:17:32recommitting themselves to the task at hand,
00:17:34and forcing a three and out,
00:17:36and giving the ball back to their offense?
00:17:38On fourth down, here's Brett Kern to punt the football away.
00:17:46And a fair catch is taken here,
00:17:48a step or two inside the 45-yard line.
00:17:51It's just a 30-yard punt that time, no return.
00:17:54And it's Chiefs football, first and ten.
00:17:57And Kansas City's offense now set, ready to go.
00:18:01The last possession, these guys were able to tie the game with a touchdown,
00:18:04and now they'll have a chance to move out in front.
00:18:06Yeah, let's give a big assist to the defense.
00:18:08We've got the ball back.
00:18:09The special teams went out there, handled things.
00:18:11They've got it.
00:18:12They've got momentum.
00:18:13I know they're eager to get out there and put it on display.
00:18:16Yeah, he's got to be out of bounds,
00:18:17but not before he takes it inside the 40.
00:18:20And this was a nice example of an offensive coordinator scheming his guy open.
00:18:25Just a little underneath route, just trying to free up some space.
00:18:28And it worked awfully well.
00:18:30Got him not just space,
00:18:31but plenty of room to run after the catch to pick up really nice yardage.
00:18:40So from the 39 now, they'll come up on a first and ten.
00:18:48Now Mahomes.
00:18:52This would complete to me, Cole Hardman.
00:18:55Five yards on the catch there, brings up second down.
00:18:59That next teammate used to tell me all the time,
00:19:01I hate experienced quarterbacks,
00:19:03because no matter what, you really can't hide what you're doing.
00:19:07And I think that right there, he knew right away where the blitz was coming from,
00:19:10where his primary guy was going to be,
00:19:12and he ended up going to a secondary target for a nice game.
00:19:15I was just going to ask you, that wasn't the primary target.
00:19:18He's so good at that, isn't he?
00:19:19I think he knew right away that he wasn't going to get to his primary guy.
00:19:22I think he read that as soon as he got to the line of scrimmage.
00:19:25Knew where the pressure was going to come from.
00:19:27He said, wow, I know how to beat that.
00:19:29And that's what he did.
00:19:32So this will be accepted as it moves the offense backwards.
00:19:40They had a great starting position to begin the drive,
00:19:43but now they look up for the third and five.
00:19:48Now here's Mahomes.
00:19:52He wiped those lines, it's intercepted.
00:19:55Picked off by Cannon Farley.
00:19:57And the Titans are going to have it here at their own 15.
00:20:02Okay, partner, no surprise to you.
00:20:05I'm going to look at this from the defensive perspective.
00:20:07In the rain, you have to be more cautious trying to cover passing routes.
00:20:12Why?
00:20:12The offense knows where they're going with the football.
00:20:14The receiver knows the route he's going to run.
00:20:17You have to make sure you keep your footing underneath you.
00:20:20The Titans offense now, they get ready to do battle again here.
00:20:23And on the last go-around, they really couldn't get anything going.
00:20:27They had to putt from deep inside their own territory,
00:20:29which means you're going to lose the field position battle as a general rule.
00:20:33What they're looking for now is a little more consistency.
00:20:36Move the ball at least a few times on offense.
00:20:38Get a couple of first downs and hopefully flip the field.
00:20:41Yeah, just something to build off of.
00:20:43That's what they're looking for here.
00:20:44That'll give them eight that time.
00:20:46And it'll be second down.
00:20:48Just about every quarterback is trained to really look downfield first
00:20:51before you come back and make a nice, safe throw.
00:20:54And in this case, that's exactly what he did.
00:20:56Found his running back.
00:20:57Let him create some space.
00:20:59And it turned out to be a nice play for the offense.
00:21:02We've hit the two-minute mark of the first half.
00:21:04All knotted up at seven.
00:21:17A reminder that when halftime rolls around,
00:21:20Jonathan Coachman will have all the highlights and analysis of this first half of play
00:21:24from our studios in Orlando.
00:21:27Meanwhile, Tanny Hill's throw here into the hands of Jones.
00:21:31He's been the forgotten man in this first half.
00:21:34Not a guy you want to forget.
00:21:35Not only his first catch, first time they've targeted him.
00:21:38That doesn't make any sense, does it?
00:21:39Not at all.
00:21:40Because those are the types of plays that he provides.
00:21:42When he does come alive, when they do look his way,
00:21:45not only is it a big catch, it's a first down.
00:21:48Tannehill on first down.
00:21:51And he's taken down to Chiefs' sack.
00:21:55Jared Reed busting through to get him for a loss of six.
00:22:00And they weren't in zone coverage.
00:22:02They were in man.
00:22:03And each man did his job.
00:22:05And that looked like vintage, old-school coverage, didn't it?
00:22:08Man coverage reminded me of an old Raiders team.
00:22:11They had a Hall of Famer at one corner
00:22:13and a defensive player of the other.
00:22:15And they just locked people down.
00:22:21Second and 16.
00:22:31Another try after the first down sack.
00:22:34Tannehill, his throw incomplete.
00:22:37You definitely wouldn't like to have hit on that one
00:22:39because now you've got a third and long showing up.
00:22:42And you just know defense is going to be getting after it.
00:22:45They are pinning their ears back, and they are coming.
00:22:49An incomplete pass on that last play,
00:22:52and that means they'll need to come up with something here on third down.
00:22:58Running left, it's Henry.
00:23:00And that'll hurt the average a bit
00:23:02as this time they're able to get him behind the line.
00:23:05The Chiefs now going to use the first of their timeouts
00:23:08as the clock will stop with 45 seconds to go.
00:23:12In the first half.
00:23:21Here's Brett Kern now
00:23:23as he'll kick it away for the second time.
00:23:28Oh, it's a wobbler here.
00:23:31And a fair catch taken back near about the 35, 36-yard line.
00:23:38The Chiefs going to go back on offense here late in this first half.
00:23:42And with 40 seconds to go,
00:23:44that's, you'd think, time enough to try to mount a drive
00:23:47should they decide to do so.
00:23:49The Chiefs in good position to start out
00:23:51as they come up first and 10 at their 35-yard line.
00:23:55Trying to shake off the interception.
00:23:57He'll look to throw.
00:23:58This will be stopped about two yards shy of the marker.
00:24:01Eight-yard gain, second and two.
00:24:25Throwing now is Mahomes.
00:24:28Going to let one fly for Robinson.
00:24:30And that will be incomplete.
00:24:33Trying to dial up the long way out there,
00:24:35but it'll be third down.
00:24:37To this point, I've been impressed with the work defensively.
00:24:40They have not allowed a lot of receivers to run free.
00:24:42And there's another example, another incompletion.
00:24:46After the incompletion, here now, third and two.
00:24:54The home's going to throw.
00:24:57And this pass broken up.
00:24:59And the contact, well timed there.
00:25:02And now fourth down.
00:25:05That's an excellent job right there on third down.
00:25:07Like any defense, you never want to let them get anything started.
00:25:10And that would have been a first down.
00:25:12Instead, you saw the contact.
00:25:13On time, no penalty.
00:25:15And before this drive could get wings, it's fourth down.
00:25:20On is the punter, Townsend, as he gets this one away.
00:25:2636 yards on the puck with no return.
00:25:29And control of the football.
00:25:30Switching hands with very little time remaining until the half.
00:25:34The Titans offense going to get one final possession in this first half.
00:25:38And we'll see what they want to do.
00:25:40Just 20 seconds remaining here before the half.
00:25:43Clock at 20 seconds to go in the half as they come up first and ten.
00:25:48And they'll indeed start on the ground to run that clock.
00:25:51And he'll just push his way forward for a few as the clock will run.
00:25:56Charverius Ward there to make the stop.
00:26:09So, a touchdown apiece.
00:26:11That's what we have to show at halftime as they head to the locker room.
00:26:147-7, our score.
00:26:16As we'll head down to Orlando, that's where we find our man Jonathan Coachman at our EA Sports
00:26:21Halftime Report.
00:26:23Coach.
00:26:23Okay, Brandon, thanks very much.
00:26:25And welcome in, everyone, to an abbreviated version of the EA Sports Halftime Report.
00:26:30First, though, a check of the next-gen stats in that first half for Kansas City.
00:26:35And in a tie ball game, they've got to be asking themselves,
00:26:38what can we do to get this passing game on track for the second half to come?
00:26:43Meanwhile, for the Titans, we get a look at their numbers on the ground in that first half.
00:26:47As they'll be looking to rev things up here in a tie ball game.
00:26:51Okay, Coach, thanks as always.
00:26:54This one's still anyone's game as we welcome you back for quarter number three.
00:27:07Here we go.
00:27:08Here we go.
00:27:11Here we go.
00:27:12Here we go.
00:27:15Here we go.
00:27:16Here we go.
00:27:17Here we go.
00:27:17Here we go.
00:27:17Here we go.
00:27:18Here we go.
00:27:19Here we go.
00:27:33Forecast calling for more of the same.
00:27:35The rain's set to continue as we are underway in the second half.
00:27:40From a couple yards deep, he'll bring it out of the end zone.
00:27:43And no chance to get away as they'll get him down at about the 17-yard line.
00:27:52The Titans getting set to go here to begin the third quarter.
00:27:55It's a tie football game here.
00:27:57What do you think, Charles, the message was at halftime?
00:28:00Well, I think that they probably just looked at things and said,
00:28:02we're fortunate that this is a tie game.
00:28:04No need to panic.
00:28:05No need to change a whole lot.
00:28:07We didn't play anything close to our best in the first half.
00:28:09So we don't have to go out and win one for the Gipper.
00:28:12Let's just go out and play our best football and win one for us.
00:28:16Second half begins with a run by Henry.
00:28:18Henry, and he'll power ahead, but only for about three yards.
00:28:21Second down coming up.
00:28:23Yeah, I don't know if it's exactly a win-win,
00:28:25but if you're on offense, you'll take that kind of a run, all right?
00:28:28It was kind of stacked up, found a little bit of yardage,
00:28:31and frankly, they're pretty close to staying on schedule on offense.
00:28:34The playbook is still open for the coordinator.
00:28:51Second and seven.
00:28:58To throw is Tannehill.
00:29:00This would complete to his fullback out of the backfield.
00:29:04And he'll get this out to the 30-yard line.
00:29:07And as a quarterback, he always plays when you can use all the weapons at your disposal.
00:29:12Here he spots his fullback underneath,
00:29:14gets the completion right there for a nice pickup.
00:29:23So first and ten now from the 30.
00:29:31Tenth carry now for Derrick Henry.
00:29:33And just no chance of turning the corner.
00:29:36He can only get back to the line of scrimmage.
00:29:39Second and ten coming up.
00:29:41It's rare that a man his size can't at least push forward for a yard,
00:29:45but they stopped him there for nothing.
00:29:47You're talking about Tiny?
00:29:48You're talking about the little guy back there?
00:29:50That monster.
00:29:51Yeah, you're exactly right.
00:29:52And it takes a group effort to get a guy like that down
00:29:54and not let him find some space.
00:29:56The first guy in, he's got to take one for the team, right?
00:30:00Because he's just waiting there and holding on for everyone else to help him out.
00:30:05And tough going there as he'll only get it up to about the 31.
00:30:08They do get a yard there, but only a yard.
00:30:11Leaves him with third and nine looming.
00:30:13And not much on that run, Charles.
00:30:15No, that's exactly the way to execute a run blitz there.
00:30:18They guessed correctly that they would move the ball on the ground,
00:30:21honed in on it, and stopped him.
00:30:23Marked that down for a win in the defense's column.
00:30:29A third down now.
00:30:30Those last two plays indicative of how things have gone for them.
00:30:33Just nowhere to go on the ground and struggling to put up points.
00:30:39And the Chiefs are going to get him.
00:30:42Chris Jones with a big-time sack on third down.
00:30:45It's a loss of seven.
00:30:47It seemed like he kept going through those progressions,
00:30:49and I thought he might dump that underneath,
00:30:52but he couldn't get rid of the football in time.
00:30:54And I have to wonder if he was thinking while he was back there,
00:30:57I wish there were a lot less progressions on this play.
00:30:59Just someone that I could dump the ball to and get it out of my hands.
00:31:07Here's Brett Kern now, as he's on to punt for Tennessee.
00:31:14And here's a very low-line drive, almost whiffed on him.
00:31:18Fair catch called for in May, but now we'll have to see about the penalty.
00:31:29So the special team's penalty costs some yardage there as they come out on first and ten.
00:31:34Mahomes taps this forward.
00:31:36It's a jet sweep.
00:31:37And this play will be blown up.
00:31:39He'll lose yardage back at the 38.
00:31:44This defense not fooled one bit on that touch pass.
00:31:48And this has become one of those kind of in-vote plays,
00:31:51you know, kind of like the shuffle pass was a few years ago.
00:31:54This one never got off the ground, but you understand why a lot of teams are running it.
00:31:58These wide receivers, a lot of them, they run like running backs with the ball in their hands.
00:32:0338-yard line, second and 11.
00:32:09Looking to throw is Mahomes.
00:32:12And he'll look underneath here for Edwards-Hilaire.
00:32:14And a five-yard gain gets him to the 42.
00:32:18Caught that look from you there, partner.
00:32:20I think we're on the same page on that one.
00:32:22Just his first catch.
00:32:23I think we both thought he'd be a little more active in the passing game.
00:32:26Let's see if that's the start of them trying to get the ball to him a little bit more here
00:32:30in the second half.
00:32:35Throwing is Mahomes on third.
00:32:38It's Kelsey on the ground.
00:32:40And taking it across midfield and just shy of the 40.
00:32:47We often hear the phrase, sure-handed tight ends, and he certainly fits into that category.
00:32:51Plus, he's got a quarterback who knows to look his way when they need a big pickup.
00:32:55And on this play, he finds him for the first down.
00:33:12Mahomes to throw once more.
00:33:15Another pass into the reliable hands of Kelsey.
00:33:19And that's good for a pickup of 10 yards.
00:33:21And that'll make it second and a foot or so.
00:33:24And after that completion, you can understand why so many teams in the league are emphasizing speed on defense at
00:33:30every position.
00:33:32The tight ends have created so many tough matchups now.
00:33:35If you can't run with a tight end as a linebacker, this is going to be the result every time.
00:33:40A good position to be in here, second and inches.
00:33:45Edwards-Alaire as they run out of the gun.
00:33:48And he works it to the 30-yard line here, right at the 30.
00:33:52The opening of the second half is better for him than the first half.
00:33:54They've got to find a way to get him going.
00:33:56He's a big part of their offense.
00:34:07Under a minute to go in this third quarter as they come up first and 10.
00:34:13They're going to look to throw.
00:34:17He'll swing this one out to Edwards-Alaire.
00:34:19And he's going to get a solid gain of nine before being brought down second and right at a yard.
00:34:25And we see another pitch and catch there to the running back.
00:34:28This position just continues to evolve.
00:34:31They've become just as critical to the passing attack as a lot of receivers' tight ends
00:34:36because their ability to make people miss in the open field can really generate big plays for an offense.
00:34:43Just a yard to go here on second down.
00:34:49They'll set up a throw.
00:34:52It's caught on the right side by Robinson.
00:34:55And he gets it inside the 10 to the 9.
00:35:14And that is going to do it for this third quarter of action.
00:35:18This is the National Football League on EA Sports.
00:35:23Back now in Nashville.
00:35:267-7 is our score.
00:35:28Pretty even matchup so far as we start quarter number four.
00:35:34They'll run with Edwards-Alaire.
00:35:36And he'll take this from the 9 down to about the 7.
00:35:39Well, they certainly had success throwing the ball in this drive.
00:35:42And not as much running it as we just saw once again on that last play.
00:35:46Stopped after a very short game.
00:35:48But I wouldn't abandon the run totally because otherwise, pass rushers just tee off on your quarterback.
00:35:52Makes it very, very difficult for him in that situation.
00:36:00On second and goal.
00:36:02Mahomes.
00:36:03And in for the Chiefs' touchdown.
00:36:06Mahomes hitting his favorite target, Travis Kelsey, on the touchdown pass.
00:36:10And the Chiefs have taken the lead.
00:36:14I know we often laugh and sometimes we even exalt the guys who are great trash talkers and give us
00:36:19some really funny lines.
00:36:20But the bottom line is absolute production on the field.
00:36:24His second touchdown of the game and they lead.
00:36:27And now they'll be looking to their defense to preserve that lead.
00:36:31Butker now to add the extra point.
00:36:38And he's got it.
00:36:39It's now a 14-7 ball game.
00:36:42That time a 9-play drive.
00:36:45And it's capped off with a Kansas City touchdown.
00:37:27Now after the touchdown, here's Butker on to kick it away.
00:37:33This is taken just shy of the 10.
00:37:36And not much happening on the return as he'll get this to about the 23.
00:37:44The Titans getting set and ready to go here for their next drive.
00:37:48And now after the touchdown a moment ago, they work from behind in a 7-point game in this 4th
00:37:54quarter.
00:37:54Plenty of time on the clock.
00:37:56Tannehill and the Titans come up now 1st and 10 at their own 23.
00:38:01He'll start with a give to Henry.
00:38:03And he'll power ahead, but only for about 3 yards.
00:38:07Second down coming up.
00:38:08That's just a pile of bodies there.
00:38:10And that's when you kind of find out who's a tough guy, right?
00:38:13Who can stand up and make a play?
00:38:15It was only a 3-yard run.
00:38:16But for both sides, they had to walk away from that feeling like,
00:38:19Okay, I can stand up when the going gets tough in here.
00:38:26Henry again on 2nd down.
00:38:29And he's taken down, but able to slip across the 35.
00:38:3377 yards rushing for him now as he's carried it 13 times.
00:38:37Well, partner, I know this type of running back.
00:38:39I mean, this size, this intensity usually gets better as the game goes on.
00:38:44I can just tell you from experience.
00:38:45The first few quarters, oh, you're eager.
00:38:48You come running up there, I'm going to tackle this guy.
00:38:50By the 4th quarter, you're coming up and thinking about it.
00:38:53And D-line wearing down 4th quarter.
00:38:55Yeah, that's not a guy they want to see consistently.
00:38:58A solid run by Derrick Henry.
00:39:00And here's another 1st and 10.
00:39:04Here's Tannehill.
00:39:06He'll get this one complete.
00:39:08That's A.J. Brown.
00:39:107 yards to pick up there.
00:39:13One thing I think that's safe to say defensively,
00:39:15the tackling's been really good.
00:39:17And because of that, it's been very, very hard for them to move the ball
00:39:20because you're not getting the benefits of run after catch.
00:39:23A tackler almost on the spot.
00:39:25That means you have to run extra plays, harder to move it.
00:39:30On 2nd down, here's Henry.
00:39:32And he'll go down right around the 47 this time.
00:39:36Another carry for their leader and a good one.
00:39:39It's crunch time.
00:39:40They'll need him to continue to be productive in both the run and passing game
00:39:44in order for them to try and snatch victory.
00:39:48The drive continues as they search for a tying touchdown.
00:39:53Here's 1st and 10.
00:39:55Tannehill.
00:39:58This will be caught by Brown.
00:40:00And he's brought down.
00:40:02This defense has certainly had an outstanding 2nd half, haven't they?
00:40:06I know they just gave up a 1st down there for the offense.
00:40:09They're hoping that that's something they can jump start with
00:40:11and maybe start to move the ball a little bit better.
00:40:13But it's been tough sledding for them here the entire 2nd half.
00:40:17So now 1st and 10 in Chiefs territory at the 42-yard line.
00:40:25Tannehill able to find Henry out of the backfield.
00:40:28And they went the wrong way there.
00:40:30Losing yardage back at the 43-yard line.
00:40:33He was unable to shake free there.
00:40:36And they'll cover him for a loss of a yard.
00:40:38But it looked like the defense, they were ready for that one.
00:40:40Really left him almost no room to work after catching the ball.
00:40:43He could throw every move in the book at him.
00:40:46They were there.
00:40:47And they tackle him for a loss.
00:40:522nd and 11 now.
00:40:58Draw play.
00:40:59This is Henry.
00:41:00And that didn't fool anybody.
00:41:02He's going to be dropped to the backfield.
00:41:04That'll wind up as a loss on the play.
00:41:06So now they're staring at a 3rd down and 12.
00:41:09I think it might be time to move to a different section of the playbook there
00:41:12because back-to-back runs, both for a loss.
00:41:15Now they have 3rd and long coming up.
00:41:304th quarter.
00:41:31Down to the final 2 minutes.
00:41:33And we've got a 1-score game.
00:41:46So the Titans in possession of the football here as we get you reset.
00:41:50They face a critical 3rd down now, needing a score here in the late going.
00:41:57Jones has it.
00:41:58And he'll get this to the 30-yard line before crossing over out of bounds.
00:42:03I like the design that we're seeing right there.
00:42:06This is what they need.
00:42:07Down by touchdown here in the 4th.
00:42:09They just need to keep working their way downfield.
00:42:11And when they see openings, take their shots.
00:42:14So 1st and 10 now from the 30.
00:42:20Throwing Tannehill.
00:42:23He'll find Jones again.
00:42:25Complete.
00:42:25And they'll get this one to about the 20-yard line.
00:42:29All right, let's just put it on the table real quick here.
00:42:31This is a 2-minute drill.
00:42:32You've got to know they're looking for their number one receiver.
00:42:34Yeah, you think they'd be ready for that?
00:42:36That time, they weren't.
00:42:391st down now, but that clock rolling.
00:42:42And we've got Mike, number 53.
00:42:44Mike 53.
00:42:45Ready, Hunt.
00:42:46Tannehill.
00:42:47Tannehill.
00:42:52Now he steps away.
00:42:55And Tannehill's got the 1st as he slides to the hole.
00:42:59Well, there you go.
00:43:00Save your best scramble of the day for a big-time situation in the 4th quarter.
00:43:04Picking up the 1st.
00:43:05You don't want to use it up early, right?
00:43:07You want to make sure you save it for that exact moment, that key time.
00:43:10And that's what he did, although you and I both know it wasn't planned that way.
00:43:14But what a nice job using his eyes, scanning the field, and realizing.
00:43:18And yes, he's into the end zone.
00:43:21So they get the late score they needed.
00:43:24And now the extra point can tie this thing up in the final minute.
00:43:29And while it appears the heavy lifting was accomplished by scoring the touchdown,
00:43:33they're still down 1.
00:43:35That extra point is not a gimme.
00:43:50And I believe the referee's been buzzed.
00:43:53Yeah, they want to take another look at this call.
00:43:55And it's certainly a big one here, late in a tight game.
00:44:01Did he keep those feet in bounds?
00:44:04That's the question they've got to decide.
00:44:06And I've got to say, watching it in real time, it was awfully close.
00:44:09Yeah, it certainly looked like a heck of a catch because he didn't appear to bobble it,
00:44:14which could complicate things.
00:44:15But even with the benefit of replay, that's pretty tight.
00:44:19Well, here's the call.
00:44:28So the folks in New York just going to wind up confirming what the officials saw
00:44:32as this play will stand as is.
00:44:35Don't forget the extra point.
00:44:36It's up and good.
00:44:38And partner, we've got a tie game here in the fourth.
00:45:09This one tied it forward.
00:45:1014 now as he sends this one away.
00:45:15Taken at the goal line.
00:45:19And he's only going to make it to the 13-yard line and no further.
00:45:27Now the Chiefs offensive unit ready to do battle again.
00:45:30They've got work to do, but they do still have a bit of time here.
00:45:34And they've got to feel comfortable with that.
00:45:36But they have all their play sequences called.
00:45:38If they get out of bounds, that allows them to huddle and call another play.
00:45:41But if they don't, it's hurry up to the line of scrimmage
00:45:44and either spike it and stop the clock
00:45:45or continue to move it downfield
00:45:47in order to try and get in range and win this game.
00:45:50See if they can do just that.
00:46:03First down now, but that clock rolling.
00:46:14Mahomes will throw.
00:46:18And this one incomplete.
00:46:21So the clock stopped now with 20 seconds remaining.
00:46:25Two-minute drills, they're tough enough, pressure-packed enough.
00:46:28And these elements, it's significantly tougher.
00:46:31And you don't have the margin where you can say,
00:46:33okay, I can allow for certain things and maybe change up a little bit.
00:46:36Because it's a two-minute situation,
00:46:38you've got to try and make the same plays you would make
00:46:41if the elements didn't exist.
00:46:45And this is not going to be what they needed.
00:46:47They get a few here, but now a third down as the clock runs.
00:46:51Four yards the gain, and it'll bring up a third down.
00:47:09And we've got three football, four quarters done.
00:47:12And we're dead even.
00:47:14We'll have overtime after this timeout.
00:47:16It's a little teaching moment here.
00:47:19Overtime rules remind us how this goes, partner.
00:47:22Okay, so in the past, we had sudden death.
00:47:25First team to score wins, but no longer.
00:47:27Now, if the team receives the ball, scores a touchdown,
00:47:31they win the game.
00:47:32If they kick a field goal, though, or don't score,
00:47:35the other team gets a possession.
00:47:37And after both teams get a possession,
00:47:39then we're into sudden death.
00:47:40The first team to score wins the game.
00:47:54So we're right back where we started.
00:47:56All even has the kicks away.
00:48:01Pulls it in at the 13 and makes it across the 20
00:48:05as his guys will set up shop at the 23-yard line.
00:48:11And here comes Tennessee as they get set to take the field.
00:48:15They control their own destiny here.
00:48:17They have the football in overtime.
00:48:19Obviously, a touchdown would win it.
00:48:20And I think teams around the league are still adjusting to the idea of going downfield,
00:48:26scoring a touchdown wins the game,
00:48:28because they were used to just going downfield and trying to get in field goal range to win a game.
00:48:33Still having to make that transition.
00:48:35Let's face it now.
00:48:36The ones who are doing it best know they need to go down, attack,
00:48:40put the ball in the end zone,
00:48:41and not leave it up to a field goal and give the other team a chance.
00:48:44As we said, they control their own destiny now.
00:48:57Here's second and nine.
00:49:04They'll run it again with Henry.
00:49:06And he is met at the line of scrimmage, and he goes down right there.
00:49:11Officially, no gain on the plane, and they're left with a third and eight.
00:49:14Now, that's a mountain of a man that just made that stop, isn't it?
00:49:18But he's more than that.
00:49:19This guy's nimble and quick.
00:49:21More than a space eater, he just made a great play there.
00:49:24Third and eight situation.
00:49:26A tough spot here in overtime on the opening drive.
00:49:30First throw in overtime for Tannehill.
00:49:32He's going deep for Brown.
00:49:34And unable to connect.
00:49:36Incomplete.
00:49:38Now, give them credit.
00:49:38They took their shot, but it's going to bring up fourth down.
00:49:42The temptation to go for it.
00:49:43Probably there always is, especially in overtime.
00:49:46Got to punt it, though.
00:49:47I think you're right.
00:49:48I think that you absolutely have to punt it away and trust your defense,
00:49:51especially for a little field position here.
00:49:53But you're so right about the temptation.
00:49:56Another way to satisfy that, though, line up in punt formation and fake it.
00:50:00That's another way to get it done.
00:50:01Here's Hardman to return.
00:50:04Call it an even 40-yard punt.
00:50:06Seven, though, on the return.
00:50:08And the offense will take over with a new set of downs.
00:50:13The Chiefs offense now making their way back onto the field.
00:50:17Their defense did its job.
00:50:18Got the stop.
00:50:20All they need is three, and this is over.
00:50:22Couldn't have done much else other than score themselves and end it.
00:50:26But they turned it back over to them,
00:50:27and now all they need is a field goal to win the game.
00:50:30Edson job by the defense.
00:50:32Can the offense finish things off?
00:50:34Part one is done.
00:50:35Now part two.
00:50:36It was Bud Dupree fighting through and making the tackle.
00:50:40That was well played there defensively.
00:50:42Two tight ends in the formation,
00:50:43which essentially gave them seven blockers up front.
00:50:46Hard to imagine with all that size and beef
00:50:48that they could let a tackler through.
00:50:50But that's exactly what happened.
00:50:52A loss resulted.
00:50:58So a five-yard run the other way in the wrong direction,
00:51:01and that leads us to second and 15.
00:51:06What can Mahomes do now with his overtime drive?
00:51:10Six yards is the pickup, and that'll lead to a third down.
00:51:14Let's not quibble about the game there on second down.
00:51:16That was a positive play
00:51:17because that was a take-what-you-can-guess situation.
00:51:19Got it out to the tight end.
00:51:21Now it gives them much better opportunity
00:51:22to convert on third down.
00:51:25And it looks like they've got six DBs on the field here
00:51:28for a third and nine.
00:51:33From the gun, it's Mahomes.
00:51:35They're going deep for Hill.
00:51:39And that will be incomplete.
00:51:42Well, they weren't scared to let it fly,
00:51:44but he falls to the ground and brings up fourth down.
00:51:47Another nice job there defensively.
00:51:49They've really stymied their passing attempts,
00:51:51and it continues in overtime.
00:51:53And for them to do that,
00:51:54that means they've had to be cohesive on defense.
00:51:56Pressure in the quarterback's face,
00:51:58good coverage of not just the wide receivers,
00:52:01but the tight end, the running backs,
00:52:03when they try and slip out,
00:52:04and making sure they're at the point of attack.
00:52:06When the ball's in the air,
00:52:08they get there and help force some of those incompletions.
00:52:11Fair catch, single four,
00:52:12and taken just shy of the 30-yard line.
00:52:15Officially just 27 yards there on the punt,
00:52:18and it'll be tight in football.
00:52:20Derrick Henry trots back out there and gets ready to go.
00:52:23And we have seen a decline in the numbers.
00:52:26Where does the fault lie?
00:52:28Just him, maybe the guys up front combination?
00:52:31Well, as you and I both know,
00:52:32it's almost always a collective deal.
00:52:34But in this case,
00:52:34I think maybe the offensive line got a little overconfident.
00:52:37They had blocked so well in the first half,
00:52:39picked up on what the defense was doing.
00:52:41I think we've seen an adjustment now
00:52:43that they have not picked up on,
00:52:44and now they're being a little bit overwhelmed.
00:52:47They'll contain him to just four.
00:52:49Second down.
00:52:50This being their second opportunity in overtime.
00:52:53Third overall drive.
00:52:54See if they can settle into a rhythm.
00:52:55And that's what you're looking for.
00:52:56Get a few first downs.
00:52:57Move the ball downfield.
00:52:58Have some confidence.
00:52:59Get yourself in a spot
00:53:00where you can at least kick a field goal to win it.
00:53:02But I tell you this,
00:53:03if I'm the play caller,
00:53:05I'm looking at that part of my sheet
00:53:06that says playmakers.
00:53:08Get the ball in their hands.
00:53:10Critical situation.
00:53:11Now's their time.
00:53:12Two yards the game there,
00:53:14and now they're left with a third
00:53:15and about four for a first.
00:53:17I know the speed is the hallmark of today's NFL game,
00:53:20but the key to good rushing defense
00:53:21is still having your linebackers set the edge.
00:53:31A shotgun snap for Tannehill.
00:53:34Oh, and it's intercepted.
00:53:36Picked off by Juan Thornhill.
00:53:38And his guys are going to take over
00:53:40at the 39-yard line.
00:53:43So we will see yet another drive in this overtime.
00:53:47For whatever reason,
00:53:49neither team able to finish this game off.
00:53:52I know that the first thought is,
00:53:54does anyone really want to win it?
00:53:56But I think that they both desperately want to win it,
00:53:59and sometimes you force things,
00:54:00and that leads to errors.
00:54:01Well, it's out there for the tanking.
00:54:03We'll see who can do it.
00:54:04Here's the Kansas City offense now
00:54:06as they get set to take over.
00:54:09Neither team scored yet.
00:54:10Now we go to sudden death.
00:54:12Next points win this game.
00:54:14How about the tension right now?
00:54:15It is ratcheted up, isn't it?
00:54:17I mean, now whatever happens,
00:54:19points are scored,
00:54:20that's your ball game.
00:54:22Can't wait to see the defense now.
00:54:23Do they get a little more aggressive
00:54:25in order to not let the team
00:54:26just drive the ball easily down the field?
00:54:29Got to be careful though, right?
00:54:30Yeah, if you're too aggressive,
00:54:31you just give up something easy and cheap.
00:54:33But some defensive coordinators,
00:54:34they'd rather take a stand that way
00:54:36as opposed to being nickel to dime down the field.
00:54:52After the loss to start out,
00:54:54here's second and 11.
00:54:58Working from the gun,
00:54:59Mahomes.
00:55:01Caught, Kelsey, left side.
00:55:04And point down,
00:55:05but not before they're inside the 25.
00:55:11Charles, you get into these overtime situations,
00:55:13that's not a bad guy to dial into.
00:55:16Well, when you have to have plays,
00:55:18especially in a spot as you just described,
00:55:20we're an OT,
00:55:21you've got to go to the guys you can trust
00:55:23and you know are going to make the plays.
00:55:25Well, they say it's not the X's and the O's,
00:55:28it's the Jimmy's and the Joe's.
00:55:37Now, a first down carry,
00:55:39it's Williams.
00:55:40And not much,
00:55:41maybe a yard down to the 23.
00:55:44And I know you with every carry,
00:55:46especially in overtime,
00:55:47you're just saying,
00:55:47if you're that ball carrier,
00:55:48hold on to the football.
00:55:50Hold on to it,
00:55:51protect it,
00:55:51but not necessarily settle it
00:55:53because you're trying to get to the end zone.
00:55:54You're trying to end the game right here.
00:55:56And I know the defensive guys,
00:55:58poking, clawing, breaking,
00:56:00trying to knock the ball free
00:56:01and protect their end zone.
00:56:02Yeah, like you alluded to,
00:56:03especially this part of the field.
00:56:05And a penalty flagged down
00:56:06as he gets only about a yard.
00:56:08And let's listen in on the call.
00:56:14They'll come up now on a second and long
00:56:16after the hold.
00:56:21Now a carry for Edwards-Alaire.
00:56:23And he is going to be stopped cold
00:56:25behind the line of scrimmage.
00:56:27Just a one-yard loss that time,
00:56:29but that's not what they needed.
00:56:30Now they're dealing with a third and long.
00:56:32I thought he did a nice job there
00:56:34setting an edge
00:56:34and make sure nothing could get to the outside.
00:56:36But he decided that wasn't enough for him.
00:56:39Worked his way back inside
00:56:40and made the tackle on the ball carrier.
00:56:47And now they're looking for 19 yards here
00:56:50on third down following two negative plays.
00:56:53Now whistles come in.
00:56:54And we're going to get a timeout here
00:56:56by the offense.
00:56:57They'll be down to just one remaining
00:56:59as we step aside here in overtime.
00:57:10And facing a very tough third and 19 here
00:57:13after both of those running plays went backwards.
00:57:18They'll run here with Edwards-Alaire.
00:57:20And he'll work it inside the 30 to the 29-yard line.
00:57:24Call it a gain of four,
00:57:25and it'll bring up four down.
00:57:27One, two, three, four-yard line.
00:57:29It's not a hook.
00:57:50Everything right now
00:57:51Resting on the right foot
00:57:53Of Harrison Butker
00:57:54Now another time out here
00:57:56Called by the Titans
00:57:57They'll be left with just one remaining
00:57:59Here at OT
00:58:13Everything right now
00:58:15Resting on the right foot
00:58:16Of Harrison Butker
00:58:17This to win it in overtime
00:58:22I don't think this will even
00:58:23Nope it doesn't even get there
00:58:25Middle short
00:58:26It's a possible disaster there
00:58:29It's an empty possession
00:58:30And there's no worse time
00:58:31To have an empty possession
00:58:33Than the first drive of overtime
00:58:34Yeah and remember the situation now Brandon
00:58:37It's sudden death from here on out
00:58:39You can bet he's begging for a chance
00:58:41To redeem himself
00:58:42But the question now is
00:58:43Will that chance ever come?
00:58:47Tennessee offense set to go again
00:58:49And following the interception
00:58:51We'll see what they can put together
00:58:53On this drive
00:58:53I hear my own college coach right now
00:58:56He always used to tell us before every game
00:58:58The team making the fewest mistakes will win
00:59:00What they're hoping is that that last mistake
00:59:02Is their only one of the game
00:59:04Coaches that's all they talk about
00:59:06Turnovers right?
00:59:07Minimizing those
00:59:08And maximizing opportunities
00:59:10Yeah that one's rushed down
00:59:11Incomplete
00:59:12Good coverage there
00:59:14Forced the ball free
00:59:15And it's second down
00:59:33Here's second and ten
00:59:39Tannehill to throw
00:59:42And his throw here is incomplete
00:59:44Well so far on this drive
00:59:46They've done some good work
00:59:47They force incompletions on first and second down
00:59:50Bring up third and ten
00:59:51That brings up the big question
00:59:53Do they bring pressure?
00:59:54Or do they play coverage on this down?
00:59:58Now they face a third and ten
01:00:00After back to back incompletions
01:00:05Here's Tannehill
01:00:07Looking downfield for Jones
01:00:09And unable to connect
01:00:12Incomplete
01:00:12Give them credit
01:00:14They took their shot
01:00:15But it's going to bring up fourth down
01:00:17From a defensive perspective
01:00:19They had exactly what you want
01:00:20Anytime they want to throw the football
01:00:22There was pressure on the quarterback
01:00:23They were getting after him
01:00:25And they tightened down on the receivers
01:00:27And forced the incompletion
01:00:28Here's Brett Kern now
01:00:30On for a very important punt here in overtime
01:00:38They're going to call it 38 yards on the punt
01:00:41No return
01:00:42And out will come the offense as they take over
01:00:45The Chiefs offense about set to begin this drive
01:00:53And that is nearly intercepted
01:00:56Oh that would have changed things here in overtime
01:00:59But instead
01:01:00It's just second down
01:01:02Love the idea
01:01:03Love the concept
01:01:04But you got to leave a little room on the sideline
01:01:07So he can fade into it when he makes the catch
01:01:09That was thrown too close to it
01:01:11For the receiver to make a play
01:01:17Mahomes
01:01:22And the Titan defense steps up here
01:01:25And down he goes
01:01:26And with just two seconds remaining
01:01:29The timeout is called here in OT
01:01:43After the sack
01:01:45Things get a little tougher here
01:01:46Third and long for Mahomes and the Chiefs
01:01:51Mahomes
01:01:55Looking downfield for Kelsey
01:01:58And that will be incomplete
01:02:00Well they weren't scared to let it fly
01:02:03But it falls to the ground
01:02:04And brings up four down
01:02:06One overtime
01:02:07How about two?
01:02:08We need another
01:02:08We're still leaving
01:02:09We'll switch sides
01:02:10And have that second overtime
01:02:12In just a moment
01:02:15Here's the Chiefs punter now
01:02:17And in double overtime
01:02:19This needs to be a good one
01:02:25And a fair catch
01:02:27Signaled four
01:02:27And taken successfully
01:02:29Only 29 yards on the punt there
01:02:31Definitely not his best
01:02:32And the Titans are going to start this drive
01:02:34In great field position
01:02:36As they take over
01:02:37First and ten
01:02:38Here's Tennessee
01:02:39Ready to begin this drive
01:02:40Offensively
01:02:41And they're coming off
01:02:43For three and out
01:02:43My friend
01:02:44Then they've got to look at that
01:02:46Play sheet
01:02:46And go to a spot
01:02:48That they haven't gone before
01:02:49Time to shake things up
01:02:51A little bit
01:02:51To try and get this offense moving
01:02:53Okay
01:02:53So how do you do that?
01:02:54How do you shake things up?
01:02:56You look at what you've called before
01:02:57Realize that
01:02:58It looks like someone else
01:02:59And maybe try and find
01:03:00One of those special plays
01:03:02From one of your better players
01:03:03And maybe try and hit something big
01:03:05And get things going
01:03:06In the excitement area
01:03:13So after the run
01:03:15For no gain
01:03:16Here's second and ten
01:03:22Again it's Henry
01:03:24He takes it down
01:03:25To the 42
01:03:26A five yard run
01:03:28And there we saw
01:03:29One of the downsides
01:03:30Of Blitzen
01:03:30Doing a run down
01:03:31Because sometimes
01:03:32You get out of your gaps
01:03:33You don't fit the run
01:03:34Quite as well
01:03:35Because you're headed
01:03:36Towards the ball carrier
01:03:37With a bandit
01:03:46Now on third down
01:03:47An extra DB
01:03:48Out there for the Chiefs
01:03:53Tannehill
01:03:53Get a turn
01:03:54And give this to Henry
01:03:55And brought down
01:03:56But not before
01:03:57He was able to break the tackle
01:03:58And the extra effort
01:03:59Moves the sticks
01:04:02Someone's been having
01:04:03A good game so far
01:04:04And you know something
01:04:05A lot of us
01:04:05With power running
01:04:06They decided to turn him loose
01:04:08Again on third down
01:04:09Didn't they?
01:04:09They did indeed
01:04:10He delivered the tough yards
01:04:23Line of scrimmage
01:04:24The 37 on first and ten
01:04:34Now a handoff to Henry
01:04:35And he'll power ahead
01:04:37But only for about three yards
01:04:38Second down coming up
01:04:40Vision is so important
01:04:42For the man in the middle
01:04:43Because his ability
01:04:44To look through all the clutter
01:04:46That's happening in front of him
01:04:47Diagnose a play
01:04:48And then go make it
01:04:50And finish it
01:04:50That's when the great ones
01:04:52Know that they have the goods
01:04:54Three yards on that last carry
01:04:56Here's second and seven
01:04:59Derek Henry
01:05:02Give him four on the carry
01:05:04And it'll make this
01:05:04A third and about two
01:05:06On any running play
01:05:07That's called
01:05:07They're always hoping
01:05:09That's going to break big
01:05:10And go the distance
01:05:11But when you get a nice game
01:05:12Like that
01:05:13You're able to do
01:05:14So many things anyway
01:05:15You can come back
01:05:15And run essentially
01:05:16The same play again
01:05:18Continue to move the ball
01:05:19On the ground
01:05:19Or you can decide
01:05:20To throw the ball now
01:05:21Because usually
01:05:22You have the defense
01:05:23Back on its heels
01:05:26They'll try to run
01:05:27For the first with Henry
01:05:29And boy
01:05:30He is very close
01:05:31To a first down
01:05:32But from where
01:05:33They're spotting that football
01:05:34He's going to be
01:05:34A foot or so short
01:05:36It'll be called
01:05:36A gain of two
01:05:37And that'll leave him
01:05:38With some options
01:05:39Here on fourth and inches
01:05:41What an advantage
01:05:42Having an elite guy
01:05:43In the middle of
01:05:43The defensive line
01:05:44Because not only
01:05:45Does he take up the space
01:05:46And let the linebackers
01:05:47Run free
01:05:48But he can also make
01:05:49Plays himself
01:05:50As we just saw there
01:06:08So now this one's
01:06:10Going to rest on the foot
01:06:11Of their second year kicker
01:06:12This to win it
01:06:14In overtime
01:06:18And it bangs
01:06:19Off the left
01:06:20Upright
01:06:21And deflects away
01:06:22It's no good
01:06:23And we will play on
01:06:25Here in overtime
01:06:26And no mistaking
01:06:28That sound
01:06:28It reverberated
01:06:29Through the whole stadium
01:06:30And it's the sound
01:06:31Brandon no kicker
01:06:33Wants to hear
01:06:33It looked like
01:06:34He had it on target
01:06:35The whole way
01:06:35But the upright said
01:06:37Uh-uh
01:06:38KC's offense
01:06:39Ready to take over
01:06:40And hoping to do better
01:06:42Than they did
01:06:42Their last possession
01:06:43When they punted
01:06:44The football
01:06:45Appeal to the vanity
01:06:46Of your offensive line
01:06:47Tell them that they
01:06:47Control your fate
01:06:49Leverage guys
01:06:50Win the line of scrimmage
01:06:51If you do that
01:06:52You start to win
01:06:52First down
01:06:53You win second down
01:06:54And guess what
01:06:55You start accumulating
01:06:56First downs
01:06:56And that's what they need
01:06:57In order to not
01:06:58Pump the ball again
01:06:59And he'll be out of bounds
01:07:00After getting this one
01:07:01Across the 40
01:07:03That coach has always
01:07:04Harp on the quarterback
01:07:05Reading the defense
01:07:06And getting it
01:07:07To the open man
01:07:08That's good recognition
01:07:09There
01:07:09And how about
01:07:10What he did
01:07:10After the catch
01:07:11Yeah
01:07:12Hit your tight end
01:07:12Let him get some rack
01:07:14Yeah
01:07:14When he gets moving
01:07:16Not many guys
01:07:17Want to come over
01:07:17And put a hit on him
01:07:18Do they
01:07:20Throwing again
01:07:20On second down
01:07:21Mahomes
01:07:22Gonna let one fly
01:07:24For Robinson
01:07:25And it's intercepted
01:07:27Picked off by
01:07:28Cannon Farley
01:07:29And the Titans
01:07:30Are gonna have it
01:07:31With a chance
01:07:32To win the game
01:07:33Here at overtime
01:07:34A costly mistake
01:07:36Here at OT
01:07:37And you know
01:07:38What they say
01:07:39When you throw
01:07:40An interception
01:07:40Like that in overtime
01:07:41You don't usually
01:07:43Get a chance
01:07:43To throw a second one
01:07:44I mean I'm not sure
01:07:45The analytics on it
01:07:46This has Marvin
01:07:47Our statistician
01:07:48To ring that down
01:07:49For us
01:07:50That's typically
01:07:51How coaches
01:07:51And teams feel
01:07:52But if you throw one
01:07:53You likely
01:07:54Cost yourself the game
01:07:55The Titans offense
01:07:57Now they get set
01:07:58To head back out here
01:08:03Tannehill and the Titans
01:08:04Come up now
01:08:05First and ten
01:08:06At their own 16
01:08:12They'll start on the ground
01:08:13It's Derrick Henry
01:08:14They get him to the ground
01:08:16Right on the cusp
01:08:17Of the red zone
01:08:17After a pick up
01:08:18Of five or six
01:08:20That's a really nice
01:08:21Tough run inside
01:08:23And they gain
01:08:23Five yards on it
01:08:24And to be frank about it
01:08:25Most officers
01:08:26Don't expect
01:08:27To get five yards
01:08:28On a play call
01:08:29Like that
01:08:29So when they do
01:08:30They go back
01:08:31To their huddle
01:08:32We'll pep in their steps
01:08:33They're starting to think
01:08:34That they're starting
01:08:34To dominate
01:08:35The line of scrimmage
01:08:39Second and five now
01:08:41Tannehill
01:08:42He's got his tight end
01:08:44Anthony Ferkser
01:08:45And he's upended
01:08:46After a gain of four
01:08:48Up to the 25 yard line
01:09:15On third down
01:09:16Henry
01:09:19And he gets it to the 34
01:09:21Good enough for the first
01:09:22Let's go
01:09:24117 yards rushing for him
01:09:26Now as he is just
01:09:26Trying to reel his guys
01:09:27To an overtime victory
01:09:29And that's the big fellas
01:09:30M.O. right there
01:09:31Running through tackles
01:09:33Keeping the sticks
01:09:33Moving forward
01:09:34This defense
01:09:35If you don't bring
01:09:3611 guys to the ball
01:09:37To try and get him
01:09:38On the ground
01:09:39He's going to keep
01:09:39Making runs like that
01:09:40I feel the press box
01:09:41Shaking every time
01:09:43He touches the rock
01:09:47From the 34 now
01:09:48Here's first and ten
01:09:53Now Tannehill
01:09:58Looking right sideline
01:10:00But it's incomplete
01:10:01Had the right idea there
01:10:02Trying to throw it
01:10:03To the sideline
01:10:04But he let him
01:10:04Just a little bit too much
01:10:06Trying to get it out
01:10:07To his receiver
01:10:07Ends up falling to the ground
01:10:09Incomplete
01:10:14So after the incompletion
01:10:16On first
01:10:17Now second and ten
01:10:21They'll try the right side
01:10:22With Henry
01:10:23And this is going to be
01:10:24A Titans first down
01:10:26As good running
01:10:26Gets him to about the 44
01:10:30A good run there
01:10:31Off right tackle
01:10:32In an old school
01:10:33NFL football
01:10:34The right side
01:10:35The offensive line
01:10:36Often known as
01:10:37The nasty side
01:10:38The left side
01:10:39Usually the technical
01:10:40Technical side
01:10:40Kind of reminds me
01:10:41Of the old Atlanta Falcons
01:10:422009-2010
01:10:44That's how they constructed
01:10:45Their offensive line
01:10:58A pair of first downs
01:11:00Gives them a first and ten
01:11:01Up at the 44
01:11:05Henry
01:11:08And they're well past midfield
01:11:10Just a yard or two
01:11:11Too shy of the 40
01:11:15This is a pretty good drive
01:11:16They're putting together
01:11:17And I know if I'm on the other sideline
01:11:19That offense
01:11:20Kind of helpless isn't it
01:11:22Because they may not touch the football
01:11:24At all
01:11:24Because if they go down
01:11:25And score a touchdown
01:11:25This thing's over
01:11:26Absolutely
01:11:26That would write an ending
01:11:27To this script
01:11:28We'll see what happens
01:11:42We'll see what happens
01:11:43So now first and ten
01:11:44In chief's territory
01:11:46At the 42 yard line
01:11:49Again to Henry
01:11:50And for one of the few times
01:11:53Here today
01:11:53This run's not gonna go anywhere
01:11:56No gain on the play there
01:11:58Second down
01:11:59He can rack up those tackles
01:12:01In bunches in the run game
01:12:02From that middle linebacker spot
01:12:04And what he has to do
01:12:05Is make sure he congratulates
01:12:07The guys in front
01:12:08And tells them thanks a lot
01:12:09Because as the guy in the middle
01:12:11The Mike linebacker
01:12:13You're counting on your front three
01:12:14Your front four
01:12:15If you're on five
01:12:15Whatever you've got in front of you
01:12:17To take up all the blocking
01:12:18Allow you to roam and hit
01:12:19And that's what he did on that play
01:12:22Now hold everything here
01:12:23We're gonna get a timeout
01:12:24By the offense
01:12:26That's their second
01:12:27And last timeout
01:12:28Here in the overtime session
01:12:30We'll be back
01:12:40So now this one's gonna rest
01:12:42On the foot of their
01:12:43Second year kicker
01:12:44This to win it
01:12:46In overtime
01:12:49And I don't think this has the carry
01:12:51It does not
01:12:52It's no good
01:12:53So it's his second missed field goal here
01:12:56That wouldn't have ended the game
01:12:57But it would have given him a leg up
01:12:59In OT
01:13:00And that's gotta invigorate this defense
01:13:02They did their part
01:13:03Now it's time for their offense
01:13:04To put together a drive
01:13:05And seal the deal
01:13:35The Chiefs offense
01:13:36Block hit zero
01:13:37And we're still not done
01:13:38We'll switch sides
01:13:39And need at least one more OT
01:13:41To decide it
01:13:42After this
01:13:46They'll come up now
01:13:47On second and a yard
01:13:53A shotgun snap
01:13:54And a give to Edwards
01:13:55A layer
01:13:56And he'll be drawn down
01:13:57It looks like right at the 40
01:14:00Second and one
01:14:01Is often an invitation
01:14:02To take the big shot downfield
01:14:03I'll bet the offensive linemen
01:14:05Said are you kidding
01:14:06We just get on our backs
01:14:07And let's go get the first down
01:14:09They love being physical
01:14:19Right back to Edwards
01:14:20A layer on first down
01:14:21And little room to maneuver there
01:14:23He gets it down to about the 39
01:14:26Credited with a one yard gain there
01:14:28To make it second and nine
01:14:29Yeah things were pretty stacked up
01:14:31Here in the middle of the line
01:14:32A lot of bodies
01:14:33Not much space
01:14:34I think ultimately
01:14:35He was fortunate to get anything
01:14:37Out of that run
01:14:38The run only got a yard
01:14:40Here's second and nine
01:14:45Now Edwards a layer
01:14:47And he's brought down
01:14:48At the 34
01:14:49Calling a gain of four
01:14:51If you're a football guy
01:14:52That's a pretty run
01:14:53Because everyone is in sync
01:14:55Right there
01:14:55Obviously the guy
01:14:56Carrying the ball
01:14:57But how about the people up front
01:14:59Leverage
01:14:59Athleticism
01:15:00They created some nice space
01:15:02For him
01:15:17On third down
01:15:18Here's Edwards a layer
01:15:19And that play went nowhere
01:15:21Losing yardage
01:15:23It'll be back at the 36
01:15:25That'll back him up two yards
01:15:27And also bring up four
01:15:29I like the strategy
01:15:30Extra tight ends
01:15:31Extra beef
01:15:32They want to run the football
01:15:33But that means they probably want to run it inside
01:15:35If you get strung out on the perimeter
01:15:37You're in peril
01:15:38Yeah we saw the result
01:15:39Negative yardage
01:15:45Everything right now
01:15:46Resting on the right foot
01:15:48Of Harrison Bunker
01:15:49Now another time out here
01:15:51Called by the Titans
01:15:52They'll be down to just one remaining
01:15:54As we step aside
01:15:55Here in overtime
01:16:09Everything right now
01:16:11Resting on the right foot
01:16:12Of Harrison Bunker
01:16:14This to win it
01:16:15In overtime
01:16:19And this kick
01:16:20Is not going to be close
01:16:21It's well short
01:16:22Well right to boot
01:16:24And we will play on
01:16:25Here in overtime
01:16:27But when you get that ball
01:16:28In OT
01:16:29That's not the chance
01:16:30You envision
01:16:30And the long field goal
01:16:32Attempt here
01:16:32Winds up lacking
01:16:33And you don't want to hang
01:16:34Too much of this
01:16:35On your kicker
01:16:36But it's going to leave you
01:16:37In a tough spot as well
01:16:38Because you give your opponents
01:16:39Excellent field position
01:16:41To start their first drive
01:16:45And the Titans
01:16:46Getting set to go
01:16:47And last time out
01:16:49Another missed field goal
01:16:50So maybe their confidence
01:16:51Wavering a little bit
01:16:52Right now
01:16:53In the kicking game
01:16:53And up with you
01:16:55Not that
01:16:55I think at this stage
01:16:56They'd love to not run
01:16:58Him back out there
01:16:58In a tough situation
01:17:00But let's face it
01:17:01They may have to
01:17:02So right now
01:17:02The head coach
01:17:03Is talking to the
01:17:03Offense coordinator
01:17:04And saying
01:17:05Call this game
01:17:06Like we're going to
01:17:07Put it in the end zone
01:17:08Let's try and take
01:17:09The field goal out of him
01:17:10Give him four yards
01:17:11There
01:17:12It'll be second and six
01:17:13I feel like I could see
01:17:15What he was thinking
01:17:15On that carry
01:17:16Wanted to follow
01:17:17That big tackle
01:17:18Through the hole
01:17:19Ended up only getting
01:17:20Four yards on the carry
01:17:21I think he had designs
01:17:23On that one being bigger
01:17:35Six yards left
01:17:36On second down
01:17:43They'll fake it
01:17:44Now Tannehill
01:17:48Man open
01:17:49Here is Jones
01:17:51He's going to be out of bounds
01:17:52But not before he takes it
01:17:54Inside the 40
01:17:55So he hooked up
01:17:56With a veteran there
01:17:57And in overtime
01:17:58That's not a bad idea
01:18:00Go with the age
01:18:00And the experience
01:18:01Sometimes young guys
01:18:03They give you the fresh legs
01:18:04They give you all that bounce
01:18:05But in this type of situation
01:18:07Sometimes those legs
01:18:08Slow down a little bit
01:18:09As the enormity of the moment
01:18:11Overwhelms them
01:18:11The veteran guys
01:18:12They tend to come through
01:18:14So from the 36 now
01:18:16First and 10
01:18:22They'll go option
01:18:23To the short side
01:18:24And nothing doing
01:18:25He's immediately taken down
01:18:26At the line of scrimmage
01:18:28No gain there
01:18:29As he kept it himself
01:18:30At second down
01:18:31Well for that being
01:18:32An option play
01:18:33There really weren't
01:18:34Too many options
01:18:34Available for him
01:18:35Were there
01:18:36No there weren't
01:18:37And at least he was able
01:18:38To get back to the line
01:18:39Of scrimmage
01:18:39So he didn't lose anything
01:18:41But you're exactly right
01:18:42Nowhere to go
01:18:47On second down
01:18:48Now
01:18:49It's Henry
01:18:51And he's going to get this
01:18:53Inside the 30
01:18:58And he continues
01:18:59To pile up the yardage
01:19:01That puts him over
01:19:01Above 50 now
01:19:02And this defense
01:19:03Has really had its problems
01:19:04Trying to keep him contained
01:19:26This is Henry
01:19:28They get him to the ground
01:19:29Right on the cusp of the red zone
01:19:31After a pick up of five or six
01:19:34You know what really fires up
01:19:35Offensive linemen
01:19:36When the guy that is carrying
01:19:38The ball behind them
01:19:39Can create his own space
01:19:40And break a tackle
01:19:41Along the way
01:19:51So now this one's going to rest
01:19:53On the foot of their second year kicker
01:19:55This to win it in overtime
01:19:57And the Chiefs are going to signal for
01:20:00And the Chiefs are going to signal for
01:20:00And be granted another time out
01:20:02They'll be left with just one remaining
01:20:04Here at OT
01:20:16So now this one's going to rest on the foot of their second year kicker
01:20:20This to win it in overtime
01:20:22And he got it
01:20:26The kick is good
01:20:28And overtime
01:20:29He's able to split the uprights
01:20:31And they take a 17-14 lead
01:20:35So a good kick there
01:20:36And they put the bow tie on it
01:20:38With three points
01:20:39And let's face it
01:20:40Everybody wants a touchdown
01:20:41We know that
01:20:42But the NFL
01:20:42Defense is awfully good
01:20:44You're not going to score each and every time
01:20:45Be able to knock the ball through the post
01:20:47Take the throw
01:20:48By the way
01:20:49I said bow tie
01:20:50I meant just bow
01:20:50Not the tie
01:20:52But you know
01:20:52You got it
01:20:53I just went right past it
01:20:55Well Charles
01:20:56The forecast called for rain
01:20:58Throughout the entire game
01:20:59And we got rain throughout the entire game
01:21:02But these two teams
01:21:03They had fun getting dirty out there
01:21:05They love the slob
01:21:06Did you trust the forecast ahead of time?
01:21:08I'm a little skeptical about it
01:21:10A little skeptical
01:21:11But when I saw just a big blob of green on the radar
01:21:14I said okay let's trust
01:21:15Yeah and that's why
01:21:16I'm glad you took my advice
01:21:18Got your notes laminated
01:21:19Cause you know
01:21:20Open air booth
01:21:21That rain can affect us as well
01:21:23Although not as much as the guys on the field
01:21:25But let's face it
01:21:26It's kind of fun to watch these types of games
01:21:28Isn't it?
01:21:28It is
01:21:29By the way
01:21:29How impressive is it
01:21:31That you travel with a laminator?
01:21:33I didn't even know there was a portable laminator
01:21:34The things that you learn
01:21:36Golly
01:21:36Rise beyond its years
01:21:38Golly
