00:09Kaya naman this morning, kasama po natin ang ilang director na kasama sa Cinemalaya 2026,
00:15ang director ng Mag-iina, direct Giancarlo Abrahan, and the director of Hand of God, direct Mark Duane Angus,
00:22and of course, actor na si Tyke Sanchez. Welcome po sa Rise and Shine, Pilipinas.
00:28Good morning. Salamat sa pag-ising ng Maaga.
00:32Kaya nga.
00:32Thanks for joining us.
00:34Both, pwede nyo po ba i-share sa amin yung paano po nagsimula itong mga pelikula na ito,
00:38itong Mag-iina at saka yung Hand of God, at saan po ito hapo?
00:44So, yung Mag-iina ay based on the Palanca Award winning play by Gilan Varela Luarca.
00:50He adapted it for the screen, and it's about a woman who comes home from New York.
00:57Okay.
00:58Magpo 40 days na since namatay yung tatay niya, ngayon pa lang siya magpapakita.
01:03Hmm.
01:04Bago mag-cross over papunta sa heaven, yung kanyang ano.
01:10And then, maabutan niya yung kanyang ano, dun sa bahay nila, sa kanilang ancestral house.
01:16Yung three different generations of women.
01:19Okay.
01:19And they're also suspended in grief, but also madness.
01:22So, mababaloy silang lahat.

01:33At sa Hand of God naman, kami ni Tyke actually here,
01:36one of the characters who played in the film,
01:39is very close parang sa football community.
01:42And we, Tyke knows that I run a non-profit organization that uses football to,
01:51that provides accessibility to football sa mga underserved communities.
01:56So, dito namin na-stamble yung kwento kasi we are witness kung paano how a simple game like football
02:02can be transformative sa mga buhay ng mga bata.
02:05And, yeah, and that's when we decided maybe this is a good story to tell,
02:10to remind us that in the age of, ano ba, jadedness and cynicism direct,
02:16yes, di ba, we can be a little bit hopeful and there can be tools like a simple sport like
02:20football.
02:21So, yun.
02:22Basically yung, basically, ang kwento at ang germ kung paano nabuo namin yung kwento ng Hand of God.
02:27Oo, paano naman po yung sa casting ng pelikula, yung, syempre, yung mga gaganap,
02:32importante, maayos at talagang akma doon sa karakter.
02:37So, paano naman po naging proseso natin doon?
02:39Well, sa amin, marami doon sa aming mga artista.
02:43Yung isa, nakatrabaho po last year, si Ms. Agat Isidro.
02:49Gilan and I worked with her doon sa adaptation ng aking cinema-layo film na Daguita.
02:55So, she was one of the actors and we wanted to work with her again.
02:59And when I was a student, grad student in New York, na meet ko doon si Janine Gutierrez.
03:04So, paano naisip ko, o, ganit sa New York yung karakter.
03:07Sato.
03:08So, sato.
03:09And then, we really felt bagay doon sa role si Cherry Pie Picache.
03:14Bigating mga artista, no?
03:16And then, there's this actress, Ness Roque.
03:19Umartin na siya sa cinema-layo before.
03:21But also, I wanted to include theater people, because I also worked in the theater.
03:26So, Ness Roque is with us in the cast as well.
03:29Okay, yes nga to, Cherry Pie, at Agat Isidro.
03:32And, because we casted Janine Gutierrez.
03:36Janine Gutierrez as well.
03:37Yung magiging lola niya dito ay yung kanyang kita, na si Jackie Lou Black.
03:41Oh, my goodness.
03:43I'm excited.
03:44Parang excited na ako manood.
03:46Kay Direk naman, kay Direk Mark.
03:48May similarity with Direk J.
03:50Yan, mga tao, mga aktor at mga artisan, nakasalamuhan na namin sa industriya one way or another.
03:58These stars, the main protagonist is played by Ruru Madrid,
04:03who I've worked with, once upon a time, si Isa Calzado, John Hilario, and of course, Tito Ronnie Lazaro, and
04:12Cholo Barreto.
04:14But, aside from that, since there is a specific requirement dun sa pelikula, which is football,
04:20we really reach out sa football community, yung kung sino yung pwede makapaglaro,
04:26because we wanted to make the game authentic and real.
04:29Ito, si Tyke, pwede niy kuwento kung paano siya nakasun sa kuala.
04:33Oh, ingaw. Sige, Tyke.
04:34Sigura was casted, kasi sumaktong sumakto talaga yung role sa akin.
04:38I've been playing football since I was a kid.
04:40Oh, okay.
04:41Tapos, sa recent na ginawa ko rin na MMFF film,
04:45I was able to train with the PNP staff.
04:47So, saktong-sakto talaga siya sa karakter ko na militar.
04:51At the same time, we were bringing football to the community rin.
04:55Pwede mo bang i-describe na rin yung karakter mo dito sa hand of God?
04:58Well, yung karakter ko is si Platoon member Navarro.
05:03The basic part of my character is, ako yung sobrang optimistic na member ng Platoon towards Reyes.
05:10Ako yung sumusuporta sa kanya na sa pag-push ng football sa community.
05:15Kasi maraming, siyempre, maraming discrepancies sa mga kasamahan na parang ayon nila or whatever.
05:20Pero, I was, I'm there to support him para ma-push namin yung football.
05:25Alright.
05:25Well, patikin ko si Direk, Gian.
05:27Direk, ano po yung hagin-challenges?
05:29Since, if I'm not mistaken, drama, comedy.

06:12Nakita po namin sa snippets, parang sa mga kapatid natin, Muslim yung setting.
06:17So, paano po yung ginawa natin para ma-maintain the respect sa kultura ng ating mga kapatid natin?
06:22Yeah, the initial, when we were starting the film from the concept pa lang, the initial action that we did
06:31is basically to reach out with some of our brothers sa South and to get a situation there.
06:39And after that, a lot of discussions, a lot of talk, a lot of consultations, and then the next stage
06:44was basically an immersion to go there.
06:46At para ma-meet ang mga community, at makilala sila.
06:52And in a way, ultimately, kasi pag napanood nilang pelikula, they will be the judge if the film has represented
07:00them well.
07:01But what they like about it is, yeah, we even shot some of the scenes in Basilan.
07:07Wow.
07:08So, and they were so welcoming and they were so embracing sa buong produksyon namin, considering that we are a
07:16small production kasi we are Sinimalaya.
07:19So, nakakatawa that they are very enthusiastic to make that connection and establish that relationship with us.
07:29Kaya, yun. So, and we hope we gave that justice dito sa pelikula nito.
07:34Ayun, para sa kanilang dalawa siguro yung tanong na ito, ano po yung mga kinaibahan ng mga pelikula ngayon na
07:41entry ninyo sa Sinimalaya 2026 doon sa mga past entries ninyo?
07:46Well, ako, ibang-ibang, yun nga, I think kaya nabanggit yung, ano, drama-comedy, because may past two films, or
07:53drama-comedy.
07:56Yung pinagkapareho ay tungkol pa rin siya sa pamilya, pero ngayon, gusto kong i-explore itong fascination ko with a
08:05fairy-tale-like or parang fable-like story, mythological even.
08:11So, yun.
08:14Ako, ang background ko kasi is television. So, yun talaga ang ginagawa ko through the years.
08:19I've been creating TV shows. So, yun. Medyo may malaking pagkakaiba din direct.
08:25Punti lang. Pero, primarily, it's the rhythm.
08:29Because alam naman natin sa TV that, what's the next episode? Paano mo mapapakapit ang audience, ang kwento?
08:37So, and television tend to be a very distracting medium kasi marami kang kalaban para makuha mong atensyon.
08:46So, the main difference is the rhythm.
08:49Kasi suddenly, you have a captured audience sa loob ng sinehan.
08:53Suddenly, you can slow down. Suddenly, you can focus a lot more sa internal aspects of your character, etc.
09:02But, that's it. Pero, tulad nung sinabi ni director yan, malaki din naman yung kapareho niya.
09:09Because storytelling at its core is about being true to the stories or to the core of the characters or
09:16to the essence of the story that you're telling.
09:18And it's very, it's the same thing, I'm sure, with directsya yan. Mapatibi man, mapapilikula. It's very collaborative ang ano
09:26kasi with Tyke and the other cast.
09:30And, of course, the members of the production also coming in to make sure that the film work or the
09:35film is better told the best way possible.
09:40Alright. Well, for Tyke, gaano kaalaga na maihayag ang galitong klaseng kwento sa kasalukuyang henerasyon ngayon na mga manonood, dalo
09:48na sa mga Gen Z?
09:49Yeah. Actually, we're living in the era na parang, when you see someone, you always judge a book by its
09:55cover.
09:56Maybe, through our film, mapapakita namin sa community na there's more to it than just the looks of a person.
10:05Hindi mo alam ano yung pinagdandaanan ng tao, kung ano yung buhay niya ngayon. So, I think it would be
10:10leaning towards na we'll be optimistic, maging mas mabuting tayong tao sa kapwa natin.
10:17And, yeah, I think that's the gist of it.
