00:02It's been almost a week since Ambahavi heard about the origin hack through the media.
00:07I feel pretty powerless. I feel like I'm really responsible with my data. I change my passwords regularly.
00:13The company now says that 900,000 people's data was breached.
00:18It's not on the dark web and we are monitoring that 24 by 7.
00:23The company has also confirmed that it was contacted by email about a possible hack in early July
00:29but that it assessed this claim as not credible.
00:32It was only when a purported hacker went to the media almost three weeks later
00:37that the company told the ASX and its customers about a possible breach,
00:43confirming unauthorised access a day later.
00:46It's unfortunate that even when the attacker is trying to tell you that they've attacked you,
00:51you don't believe it.
00:52I can't comment on the incident specifically. It's a criminal investigation.
00:56Origin says that it's going to start contacting impacted customers from today
01:01but it wouldn't say how long it'll take to get on to almost one million people
01:07and many of those impacted might not even know it yet
01:10because the company says that most of the data stolen is from former customers.
01:16Years on from major breaches on Optus, Medibank, Qantas,
01:20Richard Buckland says the rules about company data retention are still too weak.
01:25The only strength in our legislation, ironically,
01:28is that they have to fess up when the data's stolen.
01:31But of course then it's too late.
01:33Amber's data was also caught up in the Optus hack.
01:36Rationally in my head, I know that these can be really dangerous events
01:39but I feel so desensitised to data breaches now.
01:42She'll be checking her emails for updates.
01:45With Alzheimer's data anĂĄlise on this mortality rate,
01:45it's definitely an entire file that's not cost realised in the past
01:45but also some of the other reports were left.
01:46So I'm thinking,
01:47So that's why I'm indicating there's only the data in my life.
