00:00After finishing second in the qualifying race, Maureen Costa thought that she had a chance at
00:04a medal in the 3,000 metre final. That was until...
00:10There are a few cases of athletes coming back from falls in long-distance races.
00:14Lasse Viren famously won the 10,000 metre Olympic final after a fall in 1972,
00:19and Safan Hassan also made an incredible comeback in the 1,500 metres in 2021.
00:24They proved that after a fall, you can make a comeback if you get back up straight away.
00:29But this isn't one of those stories, because Maureen didn't get back up straight away.
00:34In fact, she didn't get up at all.
00:36As the other runners continued through the race, they watched anxiously out the corner of their eyes
00:40as medics carried Maureen off the track and tried desperately to wake her.
00:45Lapse continued to pass, the officials brought out a privacy screen,
00:48and then the medics took her unconscious body away on a stretcher.
00:51Maureen was taken to the hospital and she had a concussion after being knocked unconscious,
00:55but thankfully she was okay.
00:57This moment happened in March of this year and she hopes to get back to competing again soon.
