00:00So a couple of big Commanders-related stories as veterans report to training camp today.
00:07The first one is really disturbing.
00:10The son of Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Biennemi has been arrested following a shooting at Biennemi's home in
00:18Virginia.
00:19At approximately 7.32 p.m. on Sunday, July 26th, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of
00:27a shooting in Ashburn
00:29where the Washington Commanders have their practice facility.
00:31Deputies located one adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of
00:39serious injuries.
00:40It was the wife of former Commanders Offensive Coordinator Eric Biennemi, Mia Biennemi, 57.
00:48Luckily, she is in stable condition after the incident.
00:52Do they say where she was hit? Was she hit the face?
00:55I don't think the story said that.
00:57I don't have those details, though it does appear that she was shot multiple times.
01:02I saw at least twice.
01:03And their son, Elijah Biennemi, 27, was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm,
01:12and commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling.
01:16He was transported to a Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, held without bond.
01:21He was arraigned Monday morning to have a preliminary hearing on August 31st.
01:28So the Chiefs, now he is, Eric Biennemi is the Offensive Coordinator of the Chiefs.
01:34The Chiefs confirmed to USA Today Sports that Biennemi is currently away from the team.
01:39So just a terrible, disturbing story coming out of Jason, basically close to where Jason lives.
01:46Jason said that's kind of close to where my family lives.
01:50It's in 1 Loudoun.
01:51Yeah.
01:51Yeah, I mean, it's right there in those townhomes.
01:53I was getting a bunch of emails saying heavy police presence off of North Park Drive, which is right there
02:01in 1 Loudoun.
02:01Yeah.
02:03And, you know, they said there was 15 or 20 police cars.
02:06I'm going, oh, geez, what's going on?
02:07Then I heard of the shooting.
02:10Yeah.
02:10I said, oh, my gosh, that was it?
02:11I didn't even know Eric Biennemi still lived here.
02:13I had no idea.
02:14He and his wife still owned a home here.
02:16But apparently his wife really likes it in Ashburn.

02:19So she didn't want to move out to Kansas City.
02:21I mean, that guy's moving year to year to year.
02:23Right.
02:24You know what I mean?

02:24So she wanted to stay there, and they really liked it.
02:27And so I had no idea that they still lived here.
02:30But luckily, she's going to be okay.

02:34And the son, apparently, I heard some rumors that he had some mental issues, maybe some drug issues.
02:41I mean, just an absolute catastrophe.

02:46So that story, I think it was that story kind of broke right after we were done on the air

02:51because I heard Jeff Walker telling Beamich and Finley about that.

02:56I was telling Drab, yeah, Biennemi's wife just got shot.

03:00And you saw the video, right, of all the cops at the door bringing him out.
03:03I just saw the kid being arrested.
03:06I actually didn't see that part.
03:08So that was a terrible story.
03:09Another big story coming out of the commander's training camp eve is that they fired tight ends coach Ben Steele
03:21on Monday,
03:22two days before training camp starts, and more than a month after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
03:28On June 7th in Loudoun County, Steele was charged with DWI after he was observed to, quote,
03:34change course after signal, according to Loudoun County General District Court.
03:39He was also charged with obstruction slash resisting without force.
03:44According to court documents, Steele refused a blood breath test.
03:48He was released on his own recognizance.
03:50I mean, he was stopped at 1.15 in the morning.
03:52I mean, what's, you can't be out at 1.15 in the morning.
03:58Only bad things are going to happen.
03:59Generally bad things are happening.
04:00They're looking for stuff.

04:01I can remember, there have been times where I'd play poker, you know, until 3 in the morning, 4 in

04:13And when I play poker, I don't drink.

04:19But yeah, I could totally see that happening.
04:20So charged with obstruction and resisting without force.
04:23Is that strictly just refusing the breathalyzer?

04:33And it's, this has been going on for a while, because I think it happened in June, right?

04:46So, I mean, it's terrible.
04:47I mean, just terrible lack of judgment.

04:55The last thing I was going to do is ask Dan Quinn about Ben Steele last night.

05:08He played at Fort Lewis and Mesa State, and it looked like he had a few cups of coffee

05:13I don't know how much, if it's mostly practice squad time, maybe a little bit of roster time.
05:18It was with the Niners, the Raiders, the Seahawks, the Vikings, the Packers.
05:23Played for a lot of teams.

05:28And then as a coach, he's basically been coaching his entire professional life.

05:35Was that Colorado, Cal, UC Davis, Tampa, Atlanta, Minnesota, Denver, Arizona.

05:41He's new on the staff, right?
05:43He's new here just like four or five months.

05:45So, yeah, that's not good.
05:46A lot going on and loud in the last few weeks.
05:49After the fourth or fifth drink, that's when you have to start planning for the Uber.

06:04I've got over my skis, drank too much, can't drive home.

06:09And certainly, I make mistakes and I've certainly, there's been times in my life where I've drank
06:13too much and gotten behind the wheel.
06:14I'm certainly guilty of it.
06:17But you try not to.
06:18In most places, don't you think, okay, how is today going to play out?

06:23This is how I live my life.
06:25We went to DC Prime last night for a 6 to 8 p.m. happy hour.
06:29I had one beer.
06:31I was like, I'm going to have one.
06:32I had one IPA.
06:33I'm going to have one to two drinks and then I'm good.
06:35You set a personal limit for yourself.
06:37You go, okay, I'm going to go play golf today.
06:40I typically don't drink, but maybe I'll have one drink afterwards.

06:46Or I'm going to go out to dinner with my family and, you know, if I have too much to
06:49drink,
06:50well, my wife will drive.
06:50I guess some people just do not have that government.
06:52People just don't think in advance.
06:53They just go into a bar or a setting like that.
06:55You know, that doesn't always happen like that.
06:56And they order a few and they just don't think about it.
06:59Who knows what he was doing?
07:00They don't think about repercussions.
07:01He could have said, yeah, I'll be home.
07:03He tells me it's a pattern.
07:04He could have told his wife I'll be home by nine.
07:06And he's hanging out, whoever he was with, hanging out with his boys, goes a little late.
07:10I mean, you just, you can't just script it like that.
07:13I know, especially with my young kids, we were always like, are you guys going to be drinking?
07:17If you're drinking, you're not driving.
07:18I'm saying, I mean, young people today are pretty well schooled on it.
07:22And they're so used to using Uber and stuff that they don't even really blink about that.
07:27Yeah, guys in their late 40s don't think about that.
07:29But the older generation, I guess they don't think that way.

07:33I mean, I did a junkies bit years ago.
07:36We still have the audio somewhere where I was over served somewhere in Northern Virginia.
07:40And I didn't get in my car and drive home immediately.

07:49For like two hours until I realized now I'm okay to drive.

07:54If I'd gotten behind the wheel and right after that interview, I would have been arrested immediately.
