Changemaker for Women in Sport Advocacy, and Inclusive Communication (Australia)

Carol Fox is an accomplished leader with more than thirty years of experience guiding individuals and organisations in elite sport performance, emergency services, leadership and teamwork. Through Carol Fox & Co she helps leaders eliminate self-doubt, communicate with clarity under pressure, and create positive interactions that deliver successful outcomes.

Turning Communication into Leadership Impact

Carol co-authored the book Confident Communication for Leaders and created the program inspired by its principles. Her executive coaching, masterclasses and training equip leaders at every level with practical skills for clearer expectations, stronger accountability, effective feedback and high-stakes conversations. She has supported hundreds of leaders, elite athletes, corporate executives, government officials and community figures through moments of transition and opportunity.

Her clients and partners have included the Australian Institute of Sport, Tennis Australia, Victoria University, Australia Post, the Department of Justice and many others across sport, education, government and the corporate sector in Australia and New Zealand.

A Mission of Equality and Allyship in Sport

As former President of Women Sport Australia, Carol is a respected advocate for women and girls in and through sport. She re-established the WSA Mentoring Program and developed the Women in Sport Leadership Masterclasses for coaches and administrators at all levels. She is a sought-after speaker on male allyship and the essential role it plays in supporting women leaders in both sport and business.

Her personal story began with persistence. As a twelve-year-old told she could not become a surf lifesaver because of her gender, she challenged the barrier and became the first female surf lifesaver in Victoria. That early experience shaped a lifelong commitment to questioning the status quo and creating pathways for women.

Leadership Across Sport, Business and Community

Carol’s recognition as an Australian Financial Review 100 Woman of Influence reflects her dual impact in business and sport leadership. She has served as an Ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020, Director of the Gold Coast Academy of Sport, Patron of the AFL Premiership Players Club, and on advisory boards including AFL USA Coach and Culture.

00:01Hi, I'm Carol Fox, the Leadership Educator, Executive Coach, Communication Specialist,
00:07and co-author of Confident Communication for Leaders, based in Australia.
00:12Thank you so much to the Icons of Change International Awards 2026 Organising Committee for this
00:20recognition.
00:21I'm so grateful to be included among people from different countries, sectors and communities
00:27who are contributing to sustainable development in practical and meaningful ways.
00:34For more than 30 years, my work has centred on leadership, communication and participation.
00:40I've worked across sport, government, education, emergency services, small business and community
00:48sectors, supporting people to communicate with confidence, lead with clarity and create environments
00:55where more people can contribute.
00:58A significant part of my work has focused on women's leadership, particularly in sport.
01:04I've served in senior leadership and governance roles across community, state and national
01:09sporting organisations, including as former president of Women's Sport Australia.
01:14Australia.
01:14I was also recognised as one of Australian Financial Review's 100 Women of Influence in 2020 and
01:21I'm currently a leadership fellow at QUT Leadership Institute.
01:27That work over the years has shown me that leadership is not only about position or title, it is about
01:34how people use their voice, how they create trust, how they include others and how they make decisions
01:42that affect the people around them.
01:45My work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through gender equality,
01:51lifelong learning, reduced inequalities, inclusive leadership, stronger institutions and cross-sector collaboration.
02:00For me, sustainable development is not only about large-scale policy or global programs.
02:07It's also about the everyday leadership practices that shape how people work together.
02:15I've seen this in high-pressure environments, including sport and emergency services, where communication
02:22can change the way a team functions.
02:24When people feel safe to speak up, ask questions, listen well and challenge respectfully, trust grows.
02:34Better decisions follow, people participate more fully and leadership becomes something shared
02:40rather than something held by only a few.
02:44That's the kind of change that I care about.
02:47I believe confident communication is one of the practical tools that helps people contribute to stronger
02:54organizations and more inclusive communities.
02:58It gives people the courage to speak, the skill to listen and the confidence to lead in ways
03:04that include others.
03:06This recognition means a great deal because it acknowledges the role that leadership, communication
03:13and collaboration play in creating positive change over time.
03:17So thank you so much to Icons of Change for this beautiful honour.
03:24Congratulations to the 2026 honorees.
03:27And I hope this platform encourages more people to use their skills, experience and influence
03:35in ways that strengthen communities and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable future for our world.
