My first startup failed because we kept chasing vanity metrics.
Back then we were building a GDPR web search engine to compete with Google in the European market. The startup was called nonoRank.
We participated to pitch competitions, hackatons, team awards, we would meet every investor that we could, and we even got an article published in the local news.
All that was just for vanity metrics, as at the end of the day, we had 0 paying users on the platform. And ultimately, the startup failed due to no-PMF.
To succeed, start with revenue generating activities from day 1, validate, and sell always. The rest is just fluff.
