00:33The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool is a sleek and powerful handheld fan with a bladeless design
00:38and a neck strap for hands-free cooling on the move. It doesn't come with any extra fan attachments,
00:42but it's surprisingly affordable, at least for a Dyson product. On the other hand,
00:47the Shark Chill Pill is an unconventional looking yet versatile fan with three cooling attachments,
00:52a standard fan, misting fan and a cooling plate. It launched with a price of $149 in the US,
00:57or $129 in the UK, whereas the Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool is significantly cheaper than that,
01:03at $99 or £99.
01:08The Hushjet Mini Cool follows Dyson's usual form follows function approach. It's a tubular device
01:14with an angled nozzle on the top which rotates so you can direct the airflow. It can be held in
01:18one
01:19hand, stand upright on a desk by itself or in its charging stand, and also be worn around your neck.
01:24It's operated using two simple switches, one to turn the power on and off, and another to adjust
01:29the airflow. The current airflow setting is shown by a row of small white LEDs. The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool
01:35comes in three colourways, ink cobalt, carnelian sky, and stone blush. Stone blush is the most widely
01:41available, and that's the one we have right here. The Shark Chill Pill, on the other hand, is an even
01:45more unusual looking device, made up of two cylinders that pivot in the middle so you can change the
01:49direction of airflow when it's sitting on a flat surface. It kind of resembles a pair of binoculars,
01:54and although each cylinder is shorter than the Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool, its total size is larger.
01:59One side of the Chill Pill's cylinders houses the fan motor, while the other contains the rechargeable
02:03battery, an LED screen, and the controls. You press the screen to switch it on and twist it to adjust
02:08the fan speed, and you can lock the controls using a switch on the body of the cylinder. The Chill

02:12also has two attachments that twist onto the fan unit. One is a misting fan, which contains a small water
02:18reservoir and can emit a fine spray intermittently or continuously, and the other is an actively
02:23cooled plate, which you can press against pulse points when you're feeling uncomfortably hot.
02:27The Shark Chill Pill is available in six colours, carbon, glacier, haze, dragon fruit, matcha, and iced latte.

02:37The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool has five power modes, plus a boost option for extra cooling. Dyson claims the
02:43volume ranges from 52 decibels to 72.5 decibels, but in our testing it was actually even quieter at 46
02:49decibels on its lowest setting, through to 67 decibels on its highest. The Shark Chill Pill on the
02:54other hand has 10 speed settings, but the airflow isn't quite as concentrated as that from the Dyson
02:59Hushjet Mini Cool. The Chill Pill is slightly quieter, our reviewer measured 43 decibels at the lowest speed
03:05setting and 70 decibels at the highest, but Dyson's Hushjet technology does a better job of cancelling out
03:11higher frequencies, which I found easier on the ear. The Chill Pill's misting feature is a particularly
03:16nice touch, increasing the cooling effect of the fan without making your hair wet or frizzy.
03:21The Insta Chill Cryo Plate is also very effective, becoming noticeably cold within just a few seconds
03:26of turning on. However, there's no denying that the Dyson fan is much more powerful. The Shark Chill Pill
03:31can reach up to 25,000 revolutions per minute, while the Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool can reach 65,000
03:37revolutions per minute, and that's a difference you can really feel even on the lower settings.
03:45The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool has a charging stand, which keeps the fan in a stable upright position
03:50and is useful when you want to use it freestanding on a desk or table. It also comes with a
03:54strap that
03:55allows you to wear it hanging around your neck. Simply slide the ring onto the body of the fan,
03:59which has a gap that allows it to pass over the buttons, put the cord over your head and adjust
04:03the
04:03length. The strap has a section of faux leather that's comfortable against your skin, and you can
04:07adjust the direction of the nozzle so the breeze flows onto your face. The Hushjet Mini Cool also
04:11has a soft carry case, which is made from black velvet and tightens with a ribbon that matches the
04:16colour of your fan, which is a nice touch. A universal mount and clip grip for the fan are sold
04:20separately.
04:21Meanwhile, the Shark Chill Pill comes with three swappable fan attachments, the standard fan,
04:26misting fan and cooling plate, plus a packet of spare misting wicks. These fit into a black velvet
04:31bag supplied with the device, but it isn't quite large enough to hold the Chill Pill itself.
04:35It'll just about fit inside, but it's too large to allow you to draw the drawstring.
04:39You can also buy a hard case for the Chill Pill separately, along with other accessories like a
04:44wrist strap, cross-body strap for attaching to clothing and bags, and a clamp for things like
04:48gym equipment and pushchairs. You can also buy a replacement fan caps and misting wicks online.
04:53Both fans charge via USB-C and come with their own charging cables.
05:00Having tried both the Shark Chill Pill and Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool, I'd say Dyson's hand
05:05fan just about takes the edge. Although the Chill Pill is marginally quieter and its misting and
05:10cooling plate accessories are nice additions, it just doesn't have anywhere near the raw power of
05:15the Hushjet Mini Cool. And really, that's what I look for in a fan. Dyson also provides a better set
05:20of accessories, including a case that fits the whole fan and a neck strap, whereas Shark sells these
05:25separately. Add in the fact that the Dyson fan is surprisingly considerably less expensive than
05:30Sharks, and it's quite an easy choice. So, which of these two powerful high-tech fans do you prefer?
