00:00Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical. We've done tons of user testing on this,
00:07and it turns out it doesn't work. If the rumors are true, next week Apple will pro and tell us
00:12all about its first ever touchscreen MacBooks. The tease from Apple's SVP of marketing, Greg
00:18Joswiak, is a clear sign the top tier of MacBook is gearing up for a refresh, one of which is
00:23finally set to include a touchscreen for the first time if rumors are to be believed. We know, we know,
00:28Apple has ruled this out in the past, but it's 2026 and the world is ready for a touchscreen MacBook.
00:33It'll also be an OLED screen for the first time, ditching the long-time liquid retina display Apple
00:38has relied on, so expect more vivid colors, better contrast between light and dark elements,
00:42and probably a price bump. These parts won't come cheap, especially during a computer component cost
00:47crisis, and analysts say we should expect price rises of around 20% for the latest MacBook Pro
00:52models. That would be around $2,399 for the 14-inch model and $3,599 for the 16-inch.
01:00What makes matters worse is we shouldn't expect a performance bump because the MacBook Pros
01:04are expected to launch with the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips today's models offer.
01:09These chipsets are capable, more so than the M6, but it's a shame we'll be stuck on last year's
01:14hardware instead of an M6 Pro or Max, which are reportedly being skipped over entirely,
01:19while Apple focuses on AI and GPU performance. Hopefully the Rumad iPad Mini and new iMacs
01:24expected to launch at the same time will come with fewer drawbacks and a less painful cost increase.
