00:05Dyson's engineers are experts in airflow, whether it's in vacuum cleaners, fans or
00:10hairdryers. And the Hushjet Mini Cool puts that power right in the palm of your hand.
00:14It's a portable cooling fan that you can hold, wear around your neck, attach to clothing or a
00:19bag set up but only if you buy one of the optional clip accessories, or stand upright just like this
00:24on your desk. And it really works. Best of all, it actually undercuts some of its biggest
00:29competition, namely Shark, in more ways than one. But before we dive into today's review,

00:44Now let's get into today's video.
00:48Now typically, Dyson isn't a brand known for its approachable price points,
00:53which means it's surprising to say the least that this performant hand fan not only comes in at $100
00:58or pounds, but actually undercuts the recently released Shark Chill Pill hand fan, which costs
01:03$149 or £129. The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool has been in high demand since its launch. It's often
01:11sold out in Dyson's official online stores. Now that could be because we're in the middle of a heat
01:16wave, but there is an interesting pattern forming between the three colourways. Those colourways are the
01:21ink slash cobalt, which is dark blue, Stone Blush, which is soft pink, and Carnelian Sky,
01:27which is red and pale blue. At the time of recording, all colours are selling out rapidly,
01:31but Carnelian Sky seems to be the one disappearing from virtual shelves the quickest,
01:36followed by ink cobalt. The Stone Blush colourway, which I have here on the other hand,
01:40is often the only one available, which is fine because it's pretty cute.
01:47Dyson devices often look slightly unusual, more often building around the technology encased
01:52within, such as the Coander effect utilised by many of its devices, rather than copying
01:57more familiar form factors. The Hushjet Mini Cool is no exception. With its slim, tubular body
02:03and angled nozzle, which is the same shape as that of the Dyson Hushjet Compact Purifier,
02:08it looks nothing like other personal cooling devices on the market. But it's a shape that works.
02:13The body of the fan is comfortable to hold, and the nozzle can be turned to direct the airflow
02:18exactly where it's needed. The Hushjet Mini Cool is bladeless, like Dyson's larger fans,
02:23ensuring smooth, consistent airflow, and its honeycomb-like mesh cover keeps dirt and debris
02:28out of the mechanism. Plus, it comes with a soft velvet carry case to protect it when you're on the
02:32move. The tubular shape and its flat end mean you can easily stand the Hushjet Mini Cool on your
02:37desk while you're at work. And it comes with a charging stand, which provides extra stability while you
02:42boost the battery. Accessories like a clamp, so you can attach it to gym equipment, are available
02:46to buy separately, but you do get the neck strap included with the fan as standard. Slide this onto
02:51the fan, adjust the cord to a suitable length, rotate the fan's head so it's pointing towards
02:56you, and you'll enjoy a cooling jet of air on your chest, neck, and face, completely hands-free.
03:01It's extremely useful if you're taking it on stuffy public transport when you've got a lot in your
03:08hands. Now, in terms of sheer power, the Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool absolutely blew us away.
03:14Pun intended. Especially when in comparison to Shark's aforementioned chill pill. Now, this mainly
03:20comes down to two key factors. The first is the fan's powerful motor, which can reach up to 65,000
03:27revolutions per minute. That's compared to just 25,000 for the chill pill. The second is the shape of the
03:33Hushjet nozzle, which concentrates the airflow so it's all directed right at you. Even on the lowest
03:38setting, you can really feel it. And dial it up to maximum, and it's as powerful as some hair dryers
03:43I've used. It is easy to accidentally cover the air intake grill with your hand while holding the fan,
03:48which I'm sure affects its performance, but that was just one small gripe in the midst of greatness.
03:53It's also worth noting that at higher power settings, it can sound a little bit screechy,
03:58but it is worth it for the pure performance you're getting here.
04:01The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool has five power modes, plus a boost option for extra cooling.
04:07During testing, its volume ranged from 46 decibels on its lowest setting through to 67 decibels on
04:12its highest. That's even quieter than Dyson's claimed 52 decibels to 72.5 decibel range.
04:18Though, as Dyson tests its devices with professional-grade microphones in an anechoic chamber,
04:24I am inclined to trust its figures. The sound is not unlike a miniature vacuum cleaner,
04:28but the Hushjet is designed to eliminate the annoying higher frequencies that might irritate
04:33colleagues if you were to use it in the office or with fellow passengers on a busy commuter train.
04:37It's not perfect, but it does a fairly good job.
04:40There's even a hint of Dyson's signature bounce sound when you turn it off.
04:44Dyson claims that the Hushjet Mini Cool can run for up to six hours on its lowest power setting,
04:49but during testing it's significantly outperformed that figure, lasting almost exactly six and a half
04:55hours on a full charge. A row of five small white LEDs show the current power setting and represent
05:00the battery level when the fan is charging.
05:05If you want unparalleled portability and power at a competitive price,
05:10the Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool is a shoe-in for our top pick for a best hand fan.
05:15More disposable cheap options just can't compare in the performance department,
05:19and having something so robust that you can use it year on year makes for a better investment,
05:23even at a hundred dollars or pounds. So if you want to grab one for yourself,
