00:02Galgoa is named after the swirling waters of the Nepean.
00:06It's had a special place in Australia's history and now a new chapter is beginning.
00:11Thousands of years ago it was a gathering place for Aboriginal people.
00:15It's now a camping ground. It will become a walking place.
00:19It will become somewhere that you can ride your bikes.
00:21The national park will be located west of Brinjeli and will be 1,100 hectares.
00:26It will take in the existing Bentz Basin State Conservation Area and Galgoa Nature Reserve
00:31and then add another 700 hectares, including through private land acquisition.
00:37I've spent so much time looking for koalas like me, getting a stiff neck.
00:42The new park will provide protection for threatened species like the powerful owl
00:46and the southern greater glider, while giving families a big day out without the big bill to match.
00:53Take them for a bush walk, get them off their phones, connecting to nature.
00:59Walking tracks, bike paths and other visitor infrastructure will now be constructed.
01:03Most should be complete by the end of the year. Some of it's ready now.
01:07Look at the beautiful water behind us and you can swim in there. You can lay on a lilo in
01:12there.
01:12But as with any time you enter the water, treat it with respect.
01:16As tranquil as it seems today, the government thinks this national park will be popular
01:21as Western Sydney continues to boon.
01:2373,000 houses are going to be built across Western Sydney in the coming decade.
01:29Places like this are more precious than ever.
01:31And now it will be protected for many years to come.
