00:25in terms of the concept and looking at what
00:29coin needed to be because it's it's as much a bromance as it is sort of a heist film slash
00:36thriller if you will those are definitely genres that i really appreciate and wanted to write in
00:40but we wanted to do with a modern spin so to kind of take that that narrative of like the
00:45bromance
00:45kind of as you described it but then to put a new spin on it in the crypto space which
00:49is a really
00:50interesting space and i was trying to write a story that was kind of confined that we could do
00:55on a low budget and the reality of a relationship with you know investing in cryptocurrency is it's
01:00more or less you and the computer so it kind of lends itself to a story that we could kind
01:04of tell
01:05from a more um condensed uh production uh standpoint and so writing it from that point was
01:11kind of what i had in mind when i started writing the screenplay and then also just this world of
01:15crypto which is this a world that i kind of dabbled in from the investment side for a long time
01:20and
01:20it's also just really kind of a fun space and it's full of a lot of really smart people and
01:25it kind
01:25of has a lot of humor that's kind of baked into it so i thought it was just a really
01:28interesting angle
01:29and an interesting um place to kind of attack a narrative that i really hadn't seen played out
01:34in narrative film at this point so that's kind of a lot of the origin of where the idea of
01:39the movie came
01:39from you don't take 200k and turn it into 100k no no no no no you take 200k and you
01:48turn it
01:49into 20 mil are you talking about gundo
01:58you're kidding me no man cash grows cash a little thing called asset growth
02:05why do you keep saying a little thing i don't know it's the aspect of billy and ricky you know
02:11that idea they're sort of two halves at the same point and yet they're both very ambitious
02:15yet but they have a a sense of sort of levity about them in certain ways you know in no
02:21small way
02:21you know just a little thing you know um could you sort of talk about finding the voice that's
02:27you described it pretty well that's kind of the the angle that i wanted to have with the
02:31characters where they are ambitious and that they're like slackers at the same time i've always
02:35kind of been drawn to characters like that stories like that and so i wanted to kind of write about
02:40a
02:40friendship that was like that where they're kind of striving for these greater things even though
02:44they're also like just kind of bums and sweatpants working from home and so that that kind of camaraderie
02:49those characters are kind of characters i've always gravitated to so those are what i kind of
02:53envisioned and the reality is of like again working on cryptocurrency stuff a lot of times you're at home
02:59just in your sweatpants just kind of getting after on your computer so again it kind of lends itself
03:04to characters that are like that um and then finding tyler and danny was just i mean honestly
03:09just it was fantastic i mean we went through a casting process then i met these two guys and like
03:13of course their their audition tapes were fantastic then when i got to know them they were both
03:18um you know great guys and then of course down to kind of do the type of production that we
03:22had
03:22on coin which is a low budget kind of run and gun old school indie filmmaking thing so we obviously
03:27had to get a cast and crew together that were down to make a movie like that and so i
03:32mean i
03:32couldn't have been luckier honestly me and tyler and danny to do this to do these parts well that's
03:37a big thing and crypto coins aren't assets i mean they're not even anything they don't exist
03:42it it's literally nothing come on bro you sound like a boomer digital currencies man the future
03:50oh no man i want to save the trail or not god you know i do then trust me we
04:00take the 200k
04:02launch gundo we'll be millionaires before sunset tyler could you talk about ricky you know finding
04:09that sort of you know the thing in him that you could relate with per se but finding that sort
04:15of
04:15rhythm of him because um well ricky he had we talked about how he's more of a realist
04:22uh than billy and so i wanted to try to add that element of it and he's and he's a
04:27little more um
04:29stern and focused about the way he looks at life and a little more of a pessimist and whereas billy's
04:36kind of like the opposite but they they kind of feed into each other very well and they're still
04:39really good friends and so they can still have fun together but uh at the end of the day like
04:45uh
04:45you know ricky's kind of the uh the the overthinker whereas you know maybe billy might be more in the
04:52clouds and so that's that's the balance that we tried to to keep a little bit throughout he may be
04:59in the clouds a little bit but he's so enthusiastic about everything that you just believe that you know
05:05you've got to go with it i think the biggest thing for me was relationship and working with tyler was
05:12great i mean we hit it off pretty early and he was just fun to work with and when you're
05:18operating
05:18from that place a lot of stuff starts flowing out naturally a lot of that chemistry a lot of that
05:23naivete a lot of that uh the bromance uh as you call it um and so not coming in too
05:30pre-planned or
05:31trying to be funny or trying to reach for humor but allowing it to arise spontaneously out of
05:38something genuine um i think that was was kind of my way in and then when those kind of
05:46moments of a bit more drama or moments of a bit more um stakes arise you feel more comfortable to
05:55lean into those because you've built up this chemistry you've built up this this humor with tyler
06:00that then you can drop into hey underneath this this funny concept of what's happening is a real
06:08pursuit for these guys to do something meaningful in the face of bad and um yeah that for that to
06:15arise naturally as well off of the relationship again was was my way in guys just send them the
06:21money or you're gonna go to jail why aren't you guys saying anything
06:34tell me you guys have the money
06:38uh
06:39freaky
06:43i don't have money
06:46what
06:47it's been
06:49invested
06:50you know it was interesting what danny was just saying about
06:53sticks because there has to be a danger but there has to be a reason and the whole thing about
06:59the
06:59trail you can really get behind that and setting it up that way keys into what you see later in
07:05the
07:05film in terms of the danger and the tension that builds up to that obviously that final scene which
07:11works very well because of that could you talk about structure in that way and finding it both in
07:17the tone on set and that sort of aspect but then going into post-production process because the
07:22music all these things plays into that um so i mean i think the whole heart of the film really
07:27underlies that they're kind of their half-baked pursuit to kind of protect this this trail i think
07:31without that you know just the pursuit to just get rich or not want to work from home anymore it
07:36doesn't really work as well so i think obviously i wanted the heart of the movie to be this
07:39physical location that they're trying to protect which i think a lot of people can relate to
07:43either that's like a loss of childhood type of thing or just moving on but when you see some
07:48a place that you actually have a physical uh in a you know an emotional attachment to that you grew
07:54up going to i think a lot of people can probably relate to that whether that's like moving away
07:57from home or in this case literally of housing development getting put on a piece of land so
08:03that's kind of the underlying heart of of the film and of the characters at least in their um that's
08:08kind of the benevolent reason they're kind of doing all this stuff okay and why are you not saying
08:13anything are you involved in this maybe okay okay um invested in what we launched our crypto coin
08:30your crypto coin yep ours
08:35you invested four hundred thousand dollars in cryptocurrency
08:41when you say it like that and then in terms of like tonally i'm definitely just trying to hit kind
08:46of on that like nostalgic beat there's a lot of films that have done this really well that kind of
08:50inspired that i think one of them would be like the goonies i mean the goonies is a classic case
08:54of
08:55like these guys are literally losing their neighborhood so it's kind of similar to that i'd say that was
08:58probably one of the biggest influences of that scene but i've always really been drawn to stories that
09:03are like that and um yeah just can kind of relate to that myself and so i think that is
09:09the underpinning
09:09heart of kind of what these characters are motivated by um is kind of like the through line of
09:15really their their motivations the goonies relations it's actually a really good thing because their
09:20friend the female friend almost acts like a martha flimpton because she she's not scolding them but
09:26she's giving them enough perspective and humor to sort of offset that in terms of those scenes
09:32yeah definitely so audrey is kind of the third friend in this played by madison west and she does a
09:38great job of like you said she kind of brings this grounded perspective of of what these guys are
09:43actually after and she's able to offer that voice of reason but she also comes along by the end of
09:47the
09:47film and helps them and so i she's obviously essential to the equation here of kind of giving
09:52you that audience voice of like what you're doing is stupid and she's kind of there to at least attempt
09:59to ground these guys in reality but sometimes as you know it's good to be a character like billy who's
10:05not grounded in reality because you have to kind of strive for things and have to have these visions
10:09even if there are some people who are in your corner but they're also like what you're doing is crazy
10:14this is a stupid idea so she kind of plays that role but but um you know without giving away
10:18too
10:18much of the film audrey you know comes around and eventually helps these guys and so i think it
10:24works well as a kind of a trio of friends there
10:27so
10:34so
10:35so
10:38so
10:38so
10:50so
