00:47:52Jason, shed a little bit of light on the new plant species that's been popping up.
00:47:56Well, quite frankly, we have no idea.
00:47:59Every leading botanist that I've spoken to in my field is at a complete loss as to the sudden emergence
00:48:04of this strange new flower that's popped up in California.
00:48:08Is there a possibility that this could just be a dormant species?
00:48:11Not likely.
00:48:12Plants like this don't normally stay dormant for centuries and they just reappear overnight without some type of explanation.

00:48:19And what about the reports that it's been popping up in other parts of the country?
00:48:22Well, Cree, that's what's even stranger about this plant.
00:48:25I mean, the fact that it's popping up all over the southeastern United States, including parts of Florida, given the
00:48:31soil differences and climate changes in those different zones, that makes it even more troubling to study.

00:48:42Well, unfortunately, this plant has all the hallmarks of an invasive species, given its rapid growth and tremendous spread in

00:49:01Well, Cree, I know I'm probably going to be crucified in both the scientific and news community, but, you know,
00:49:06maybe it's time that we consider the possibility that this plant is not from this earth.

00:49:20plant animal wildlife.
