00:01:38They are less likely to attack a group of people
00:01:42And be mindful of signs indicating their presence
00:01:45Dogman
00:02:13Dogman
00:02:22We hope you consider Texas for your next family vacation.
00:07:19Okay.
00:07:23years old and my mum and dad took me to Scotland. If you're going to go to Scotland, where you
00:07:28got
00:07:28to go? Loch Ness. And my dad told me the story of the Loch Ness monster and I was like,
00:07:35oh my god,
00:07:36there's monsters. And that really got me intrigued and fascinating about the whole phenomenon of
00:07:43unknown animals. And one of the ones beyond just the Loch Ness monster was this issue of what we
00:07:51might call werewolves. When I first heard the term dogman, you know, it was like, okay, you had to
00:08:00kind of equate that with a werewolf, but not with the supernatural powers. It's more of a cryptid
00:08:05classification, you know. But that's how these terms come into use. You know, somebody just coins
00:08:11it. Everybody kind of latches onto that as a way to describe some creatures that, you know, don't have
00:08:17a scientific classification. More and more in the last few years, I've been hearing about these
00:08:24stories of the dogmen. And I think when you look at these sightings of these creatures, they seem like
00:08:32a power machine. Go back to the Beast of Bray Road, if that's our archetype of a dogman, it was
00:08:38described
00:08:38as being about seven feet tall, standing upright, walking upright. And I think that's the main thing
00:08:43that we have to focus on here. Well, of course, you know, when you talk about a wolf-like creature
00:08:51that stands upright and can walk on two legs, you know, it becomes instantly horrifying because that
00:08:58gives it some characteristics that we associate mostly with our own selves. You know, we walk upright,
00:09:04we're intelligent, and we are the controller of our domain on this planet. This thing gets up and walks
00:09:11on two legs. It's more ferocious, more frightening. It has longer arms, broad shoulders. People always
00:09:18describe a wolf-like head, and I think that's the most common thing, is they say, and there are various
00:09:23descriptions. Some people say it looks more like a German shepherd. There's a certain type called a fat
00:09:28head that has this big round head, and then there's some that are described as having kind of a longer
00:09:32muzzle or snout.
00:09:35What's really intriguing is the fact they're not skinny. They're not bony. So they are clearly getting
00:09:42their food from somewhere.
00:09:53What sparked my interest in this phenomenon originally was books like The Beast of Bray Road
00:09:59and the film by Small Town Monsters, The Bray Road Beast, and then similar cases where you had
00:10:04recurring witnesses and recurring physical traits coming up again and again and again with people
00:10:09using the term werewolf or dogman. What got me interested in this in the Central Texas area
00:10:16was a personal encounter relayed to me by very close friends, someone I knew very well, have no
00:10:22reason to distrust, someone who doesn't have the time in the day to make up stories, and didn't want
00:10:26their full personal details being shared, you know, in the course of my research because they were
00:10:31concerned about privacy.
00:10:33So this friend of yours, he doesn't want to be on camera. We might be able to speak to him,
00:10:38no over the phone.
00:10:39Yes, and Trent, he actually just texted me a minute ago. He's ready for a call. So if you'd like,
00:10:44we can reach out to him now and talk to him a little bit. Yeah.
00:10:51Hello?
00:10:52Hey, buddy.
00:10:53What's going on?
00:10:54So you have relayed your story to me a couple of times, but I was hoping you could talk, kind
00:11:00of talk
00:11:00through it again and just sort of break down the sequence of events.
00:11:04Yeah, yeah, for sure. It was August 2018. You know, we'd be driving all day. We're starting to get late,
00:11:13and it's treelined pretty much the entire way from where we got off 281 to Austin.
00:11:19Pitch black outside. Can't see really anything except what's in front of you with the headlights.
00:11:24I see this figure on the side of the road, and as I get closer and the headlights, you know,
00:11:29really shine onto it, it was something I'd never seen before. You know, the best way to describe it is
00:11:36a large canine-like animal. And I think the two biggest things that really just stick in my mind
00:11:43are its eyes. You know, not like regular animal eyes. And its teeth were just very large,
00:11:53nothing I'd really ever seen in person. They still looked like they had blood from the carcass
00:11:58that was eating on it. It looked like something out of a movie, how blood just drips from these very
00:12:03big teeth. The rest of the family, you know, was on their iPads or phone or something. So,
00:12:08you know, I'm like, hey, did anybody see that? And no one did. But I thought about turning around,
00:12:13but, you know, something told me not to. Just, but it was, it was something I'll remember forever,
00:12:18for sure. Prior to the sighting, were you familiar with Dogman at all? Not really the lore or anything
00:12:25like that. I mean, of course, you hear myths of werewolves and whatnot, but no, I mean, nothing that was,
00:12:31I'd be out looking for it or anything like that. If you were out in the middle of the woods,
00:12:37just,
00:12:37just you and that thing, I mean, do you think you'd be in a lot of danger? Absolutely.
00:12:49One of the things that's intriguing is the, the fact that we can see stories and woodcuts and
00:12:57things like that all over Europe, elsewhere, which show images of what you would call an upright wolf.
00:13:07Now, does that make that a werewolf or does it make it a Dogman? And I think there is some
00:13:16sort of
00:13:16differentiation because if you look back at the sightings from, say, the Middle Ages,
00:13:24they just look like upright wolves. It's exactly what they look like.
00:13:28You have in this particular area, sort of German and Czechoslovakian influence. You had a lot of
00:13:34German people that settled here, New Bronze Foles, Fredericksburg, Schertz, and some of these areas
00:13:39around here. So there's a blending of cultures. I've noticed investigating the Dogman that you often find
00:13:46areas where you have high concentrations of German and French and Western European settlers, that you
00:13:52have these kind of modern Dogman or werewolf types of traditions. And you could speculate as to whether
00:13:58some of this at least could be associated with, you know, different folkloric traditions that were
00:14:03brought over from Europe. The Rougarou, you know, there in Louisiana, you have that French culture,
00:14:08and now you have a kind of a werewolf influence there. So certainly every cryptid is a case of composite
00:14:13identity, meaning that you have a blending of different influences. Perhaps there is a mysterious
00:14:19creature at the root of the stories, but you also have misidentifications of known animals,
00:14:25animals, mass hysteria, and unfortunately hoaxes. That becomes part of it too, so.
00:14:43The historical context of this phenomena is the aspect that really fascinates me, because these stories,
00:14:51even though the fascination with them is fairly recent, and we're hearing more about them in recent
00:14:55years, people have been talking about them for generations, over a century in some cases. And then
00:15:00you get into the mid-century, the 50s, the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and we have sporadic newspaper reports
00:15:06from around the hill country about similar creatures. There's the Vider werewolf, the Gregton werewolf,
00:15:11there's the Beast of Bear Creek. The thing about the old newspaper articles, they're really fascinating, but
00:15:18especially back in those dates that you just mentioned, they took a lot of liberties with
00:15:22newspaper articles, right? Yeah, they did have to sell a story. They had to sell newspapers and make
00:15:27headlines, and I think there probably is an element of that. Calf killing monsters stalks Plum Creek sounds
00:15:33a lot better than strange dogs seen in Lockhart. And we see that roll over even into the modern cases,
00:15:38in the modern sightings. And that may go back to the werewolf being so deeply ingrained kind of in
00:15:44the public psyche. It's an archetype that we're very familiar with. The behaviors that are described
00:15:48are still very similar. You still have stories of them standing by the wood line or rising from all
00:15:53fours into a two-legged stance and then walking away. Those attributes are consistent, but you do see
00:15:58with the old newspapers a sensational take on it, where you can tell they were trying to catch people's
00:16:03attention. What other old cases are there here in Texas? Going west from San Antonio,
00:16:08heading more out into west Texas, you have an area known as Cleo. And there's a fixture there
00:16:13called Bear Creek. And there's a story of a shape-shifting, allegedly Native American shaman
00:16:19who could take on the form of an upright wolf or possibly a bear and would predate on people and
00:16:25animals and generally make life miserable. What's really interesting about the Beast of Bear Creek is
00:16:31that we have this carving called the Cleo face, which is done into the side of a limestone bluff. But
00:16:35some
00:16:35people will tell you that this face may or may not be a representation of the Bear Creek monster.
00:16:41And that probably goes back to the thought that it depends on with what lens you're looking at
00:16:47something through, right? If someone saw a demon or a werewolf. Another story which is not directly
00:16:54next to this one, but looking at a map of Texas is still relatively close, is the Bear King of
00:16:58Marble
00:16:59Falls. And that's actually going up further north towards Austin. And you have this old story which
00:17:04again seems to originate the early 1900s. So a lot of these early cases go back kind of right to
00:17:10the
00:17:10turn of the century. But the story is that this large bear, ape, maybe dog-like creature came out of
00:17:17the woods, abducted a local farmer's daughter, and hauled her off into the mountains somewhere. And the
00:17:22people went out and they looked for her and they couldn't find her. And then the next morning she was
00:17:26found just kind of wandering around in a daze. And the story she told is of this upright monster
00:17:32that picked her up, took her away, and wouldn't allow her to leave. And so the people went to the
00:17:37place where she said she had escaped from. The townspeople opened fire and this creature collapsed,
00:17:42died right in front of them, and they never saw anything of it again. The story of the converse
00:17:47werewolf is one of these really infamous historical cases that we have. Because again, no one can trace an
00:17:52exact starting point to where this legend came from. But Converse is a small city northeast of San
00:17:59Antonio. And this story is supposed to have taken place anywhere from the late 1800s, maybe around 1900,
00:18:06and some accounts say as recently as 1960. Due to the nature of the story, I have a really hard
00:18:12time it
00:18:13could be that recent because we have so little documentation. According to the story, a rancher and
00:18:19his son moved to Converse, Texas, which is in Bexar County northeast of San Antonio. And the father
00:18:29had been either ex-military or in the Civil War. And so he was kind of a rough and rugged
00:18:35kind of guy,
00:18:36but his son was not. And so he told the son, I want you to go out by yourself and
00:18:43hunt for a deer. So he
00:18:44gave him a gun and he sent him out. So the son goes out, you know, without knowing what he
00:18:50was doing,
00:18:51and he went to this creek they called Skull Crossing. And when he was down there, he had sort of
00:18:58a
00:18:58horrifying experience. So he comes back to the house and he says, Dad, I don't want to do this anymore.
00:19:05And dad's like, you know, what's the matter? The son said that he had seen
00:19:10some sort of a werewolf looking creature. Well, of course, the father thought this was just some
00:19:16hokey story to get out of going hunting. He sent him back out and said, don't come home until you
00:19:22have
00:19:22a deer. And then by late evening, the son hadn't returned. So now the father thought, well, you know,
00:19:30getting a little worried. So he rounded up several of the closest neighbors. And by lantern light,
00:19:37they went out searching. And when they got down to Skull Crossing, they came up on the bloody body
00:19:44of his son. And it was being ripped apart by this creature that was hunched over him.
00:19:50And the creature looked very wolf-like, canine, snout. And when they put the light on this thing,
00:19:59it stood up and they took a shot at it. And it took off running on two legs,
00:20:03ran into the woods. And this, of course, is a legend. You know, there's no documentation to say
00:20:10it's true. But as much folklore or legend goes, there can be a grain of truth in these stories.
00:20:17And it's interesting that so many years back, they described something that we would identify as a
00:20:25werewolf or even a dog man. Well, being native, of course, and growing up, you know, our folklore,
00:20:34you know, some of our tribes mentioned these things. They existed way back then. And being Apache,
00:20:40you know, I heard stories, but, you know, you don't want to think, you know, they ain't real. But of
00:20:45course, now I understand these things exist. A reason I got into dog man, I have personal friends and my
00:20:52ex-brother-in-law encountered Bigfoot. So I got into Bigfoot, listened to different podcasts and,
00:20:59you know, listened to people's encounters. And I heard some witnesses encounter dog man.
00:21:08And then I heard people have sighting here in Texas. And I did some research and looked up the
00:21:14first encounter in the state of Texas, was by Seguin and Converse, Texas. I think the late 1800s,
00:21:21something like that, by the young man getting killed. As I got into it, my dad, he opened up and
00:21:30started telling me he saw him when he was a kid. Back then, it was in the 50s, late 50s.
00:21:34It was not
00:21:35wooded, right? He's thinking now it's a dog man. But at first, his first thought was a timber wolf.
00:21:43Well, there's no timber wolf in Texas. But my dad told me he was face to face to this thing.
00:21:49It was
00:21:49like maybe 20 feet away. And they said it was huge. But now, since I'm talking about the subject,
00:21:56well, he was thinking it was one of those things on all fours. It was so big.
00:22:05In February and March of 1980, there were a series of livestock killings up near Plum Creek,
00:22:11mostly calves. In fact, there was a rancher who lost maybe five to seven calves in a short period
00:22:18between February and March, ultimately became known as the Plum Creek Monster. There was a gentleman
00:22:23named James Witter, I believe, another rancher who claims he saw it and chased it.
00:22:44How long have you been in the area? All my life, except for when I went to Red River Valley
00:22:52for three years. I was over all the
00:22:57deal of Buffkin Farms. We had four divisions. I was over all of them, but I was mainly over the
00:23:04cattle
00:23:05and farming operation. We was working cattle on the Connelly place. I had three guys helping me.
00:23:11There was 84 cows there and 70-something calves at the time. Our dogs didn't come in. We used cow
00:23:20dogs
00:23:20to help pin, and we went looking for them. We loaded the horses in the trailer, and we looked up
00:23:26in front
00:23:27of us, and there this animal was. It didn't run. It probably was maybe 300 feet in front of us.
00:23:39We went toward it and stuff. It didn't get in no hurry. It walked across the field, went through a
00:23:48net war fence into the neighbors. I don't remember, but it was just a short while, probably a week to
00:23:5710 days. Me and one of the boys that worked for me, Bobby Gott, we was over there riding and
00:24:03checking
00:24:03the cattle and stuff, a horseback, and we got to this brush pile, and Bobby said, your curb chain broke.
00:24:11I got off. Bobby said, don't move. I said, what's the matter? He said, you know that animal that we
00:24:18seen the other day? He said, there's two of them looking at you. Two of them? Two of them. I
00:24:25said,
00:24:25are they just sitting there or what? He said, yeah. He said, one of them sitting on his back legs,
00:24:31just like a dog, and the other one standing up. I finished my curb chain, got back on my saddle.
00:24:40I thought for a minute. I took my rope down. He said, what are you going to do? I said,
00:24:45I'm going to try roping it. I picked out the big one. He took off. I took off wide open.
00:24:53I mean,
00:24:54I wasn't riding no deadhead horse either. I mean, I was riding a good horse. He went through that fence,
00:25:02and I don't know whether he went over it, whether he went through it. It was a net war fence,
00:25:08and we didn't find no hole or nothing. Well, we had done got loaded. We had worked the cattle and
00:25:14everything, was going out, and I told the boys then, I said, this is going to be quiet.
00:25:21Everybody pledged that they wasn't going to say nothing about it. Okay. Well, two of them went to
00:25:28the beer joints. Well, in about four days, Lockhart, it was Plum Creek monster this. Plum Creek monster that.
00:25:44So
00:25:47you
00:26:21Texas is an enormous territory, it's over 268,000 square miles.
00:26:27You have environments from almost a desert, very dry and very arid, to swamp-like areas
00:26:33that are very humid, very hot, lots of mosquitoes, and then you have coastal areas.
00:26:38So this is a map that I put together based on eyewitness encounters from a variety of
00:26:43sources, generally going back over the last hundred or so years, and you can kind of see
00:26:47a concentration here towards the center of the state.
00:26:49If you start over here in the southwest area near Cleo, going over to Fredericksburg and
00:26:55Kerrville, you have kind of a cluster down there.
00:26:57That's where we have the Cleo face, the carving that we've talked about.
00:27:00And then we go over to Johnson City, Lockhart, and that's concentrated more in the Austin
00:27:03area.
00:27:04Austin, of course, we have the Brody-Grelane monster, Lockhart, the Beast of Plum Creek.
00:27:09And then going down to Houston, the Houston area, there are numerous encounters out of
00:27:14Sam Houston National Forest, which is a tremendous amount of space, 164,000-some acres, goes into
00:27:21three to four counties.
00:27:22It's huge.
00:27:23It's enormous.
00:27:24And then we have Conroe, Vidor, and Orange, which are very close to the coast, kind of
00:27:29getting down near Galveston in that general vicinity.
00:27:33If we go further up north into the Dallas area, you have Paradise, Sanger, the Dallas-Fort
00:27:40Worth area itself.
00:27:41And then going a little bit south, you have Collin County.
00:27:43We have various encounters online, including one where someone actually took a shot at one
00:27:48of these creatures through a scope.
00:27:49Okay, so when you started to put these points together, do you remember which points were
00:27:55kind of first and when you realized, oh, this is making it, you know, essentially the Dogman
00:27:59Triangle?
00:28:00Yeah.
00:28:01I mean, I started at home, essentially.
00:28:03I started in my backyard, and the first three encounters I really looked at were Lampasas,
00:28:07Fredericksburg, and Johnson City.
00:28:08And that formed a triangle of about 700 square miles.
00:28:12And that's where the idea of a concentrated area came from.
00:28:15And then I started looking at older newspapers, and folk tales, and talking to different witnesses,
00:28:21and the map just seemed to grow.
00:28:23That 700 square miles wasn't good enough anymore.
00:29:09And that's Dog.
00:29:10Hello.
00:29:11Hi, Dog.
00:29:13Hi.
00:29:13Hi, Dog.
00:29:17Hi Dog.
00:29:18Because just to let you know, we didn't know what Dogman was, we just thought they were
00:29:24these monster animals that we weren't supposed to mess with.
00:29:28As per my grandfather said, leave them alone, they'll leave you alone.
00:29:32Don't mess with them.
00:29:33So I guess he used to see them quite often.
00:29:36We had big barns, and sometimes there would be things in the barn making growling sounds.
00:29:45My grandfather had cows, lots of charlat, lots of pastures.
00:29:49I found one yearling way out probably a half a mile in from anything.
00:29:55All of its bottom of its underside of its chin was no skin, no meat.
00:30:00And then the hole went on like this huge, and it was on its side.
00:30:06So obviously something carried it back there and ate all of its guts.
00:30:10Nothing ever hurt us besides scaring us to death, of course.
00:30:14This was when I was a young teenager. Me and my best friend, we were probably 12 or so.
00:30:21So we were all down at my uncle's house because my uncle and aunt were gone.
00:30:25It's just starting to get dark, but it's not dark. You can see everything.
00:30:29We were kind of like weirded out because they're big dogs.
00:30:32We're out in the pasture and we're barking just like a few minutes later towards the house.
00:30:38So we're in, we're all starting to weird out because everybody knows about the monster, you know.
00:30:43And then something starts hitting the side of the house.
00:30:49So we start hiding the little girls under the clothes in the closet.
00:30:54Their back door had an old wooden porch and then the door opened and it would open into a drawer.
00:31:01So the door could open and the lock was that drawer, but it would open about this far.
00:31:07Well, we're all in there trying to figure out, scared, crying, trying to figure out what to do.
00:31:12That door hits that drawer so hard.
00:31:18So then everybody's just screaming and crying and I don't even remember if I was crying, but I probably was.
00:31:25All of a sudden we hear my uncle's car or you heard one bang on the porch and then my
00:31:33uncle came in the house and he was all yelling at us because he never believed any of it.
00:31:40If you were going to give a physical description of one of these creatures to someone who wasn't familiar with
00:31:45them, how would you describe it or what might you say?
00:31:48Well, for me about the dog man, never in broad daylight.
00:31:52But like I say, that's why I was excited for you to talk to them because my friend Dawn, she
00:31:57laughed when she first, I said, I talked about it.
00:32:02And then one night she called and said, you thought it was a guy that was stalking you, but it
00:32:06was real tall and he only has one.
00:32:07One night I was sitting out in the breezeway with a mutual friend of JoJo's and I and my dogs
00:32:14started going crazy.
00:32:15I mean, in the front yard just barking, barking and barking. So I went up to see what it was
00:32:20and it was across the fence, probably about 40 yards from me.
00:32:26And I would have to say that it was maybe 11 feet tall and the shoulders were very broad.
00:32:32I mean, they were like, but I, the eyes were as big as, as big as eggs.
00:32:39I can say that. And they were glowing, they were orange.
00:32:44The whole glowing eyes is what throws me off as to maybe they're, I don't know, another world because I've
00:32:53never seen anything with glowing eyes.
00:32:55I realized that it was not something that I wanted to be around, right?
00:32:59So I grabbed the dog and I'm trying to get him in the house and I just panicked.
00:33:03I mean, I didn't know what to do because I know what I saw.
00:33:06I mean, that changed me. It changed who I am today. When I go down my driveway, I'm a different
00:33:11person.
00:33:12I had kids growing up there. I raised two boys and they had the freedom of the woods.
00:33:17I mean, that was basically their playground.
00:33:19And I don't think I would have been as easy on them as going out there as I was if
00:33:24I would have known that they existed.
00:33:27Can you tell us a little more about the area that we're in right now and just kind of what
00:33:31it's like?
00:33:31Well, well, yeah, we were actually part of the hill when you get up towards Huntsville.
00:33:36This is it's mostly flat plains to the ocean.
00:33:38So we're right at the beginning of the hill country out here, what they consider the hill country.
00:33:42My house is surrounded by national forest.
00:33:44OK, I have like Lake Conroe to the south of me and national forest to the north of me.
00:33:51But I know, too, that a lot of the people that have original homesteaders out here, they all have stories
00:33:55about things in the woods, creatures and whatnot.
00:33:58Big creatures like you see. And yeah, they're still for a long time.
00:34:05Well, me and my mother were sitting here at this same table.
00:34:08We were having coffee in the morning and I'm just sitting here talking.
00:34:10And we happened to look over and saw something start running out of the woods over there.
00:34:15And we have a lot of dogs out here, of course, within the country.
00:34:17So they just pass through, you know, dogs.
00:34:19And so I said, that's pretty interesting. That's a big dog.
00:34:22Come on. And I said, well, that's not a dog because it had very big shoulders and it had very
00:34:28small hindquarters.
00:34:30And it didn't run. It galloped. And that's what I found so interesting.
00:34:33I said, mom, that's not a dog. I don't know what it is.
00:34:35So we're sitting here looking at it.
00:34:37And mom pulled out the binoculars because she watches a lot of birds out here.
00:34:40And we're looking at it and I look through it and it looked to me like a hyena, a big
00:34:44hyena.
00:34:45So we're looking at it. I said, mom, I think that's a hyena.
00:34:48And she says, well, I don't know. I've never seen one. So maybe it is.
00:34:50And we do have a lot of what do you call those with the exotic animals?
00:34:53A lot of people have giraffes and stuff out here because we're in the country.
00:34:56And so we thought it was a hyenas that got loose and just, you know, so I was worried because
00:35:00they're dangerous animals.
00:35:01So we're sitting here watching it and it's galloping across the field over there.
00:35:04Then when it got to the fence in the back over there, it jumped over it.
00:35:07And then it's a pretty high fence. I would say that's probably a four foot fence.
00:35:10And just in one bound, it just kind of went right on over.
00:35:12And I was like, well, that's pretty amazing. You know, I've never seen a dog do that either.
00:35:16So we went to all the places around here and I say, do you have hyenas?
00:35:20And every one of them that we went all the way down the road back here were all the, they
00:35:23said, no, we've never had one.
00:35:24So we were kind of stumped on them. We don't know where that came from.
00:35:28Size wise, what would you compare it to?
00:35:30It was pretty big. It was probably, it was bigger than a German shepherd for sure.
00:35:35Not that, not, you know, real, real big, but it was bigger than a big dog.
00:35:40Is this, Mike, is that the same, is this the exact same fence that was here when you saw the
00:35:44creature leap over it?
00:35:45Correct. Yes, correct. That fence right over up on top there.
00:35:47I was just going to ask a little bit of that, because that'd be really cool to show the height.
00:35:50Can we do that, Mike?
00:35:51Sure, sure.
00:36:00So actually that, it came out through here, right in here.
00:36:05And I noticed it because when it got to about right here, I was like, what is that?
00:36:09Because it isn't a dog. It's pretty big.
00:36:11And then my mom, she goes, I don't know what that is either.
00:36:14And she pulled out her binoculars because she likes to bird watch in the morning.
00:36:16And that's when I got him and I saw it and I was like, oh my God, I don't know
00:36:19what that is.
00:36:20So he came on through here and basically just started going this way.
00:36:25Because he went behind this rock and he was just like, like I said, this is the path right here.
00:36:30So he was galloping. He wasn't really running. It was like a gallop.
00:36:33And that's what I found so strange about him.
00:36:36And he was really big, bigger than any dog I've ever seen.
00:36:39So once he got behind this rock, I mean...
00:36:42I would probably say...
00:36:44So at this angle, how much of his body was kind of...
00:36:47I mean, obviously it's not higher than that, but...
00:36:48No, I'm thinking he was probably...
00:36:50He was a big...
00:36:51Probably about that big at the shoulders.
00:36:53Jeez.
00:36:54He was pretty big.
00:36:55And that's what caught us so off guard because he was so big, you know.
00:36:58And he wasn't running. He was galloping.
00:37:01And then...
00:37:01I wonder how tall he would have been had you seen him up.
00:37:03Probably pretty big.
00:37:04I would probably say six or seven foot if he was standing up.
00:37:09And he just kept on going this way.
00:37:11And just in one bound, he just like right over the fence.
00:37:15And then my mother said she saw him coming the other way a couple weeks after that.
00:37:19Jumping the fence and going that way.
00:37:22So...
00:37:22Right through here where it's clear.
00:37:23Correct.
00:37:24Yeah, that's...
00:37:25I'd say that's about three foot.
00:37:26Up and over.
00:37:27Yeah, just one bound.
00:37:28Just jumped right on over.
00:37:29And that's what I found pretty remarkable too.
00:37:31Because, you know, he didn't crouch down.
00:37:32He just like kept on going.
00:37:34And just like effortlessly.
00:37:36So, yeah.
00:37:37Went off in that direction.
00:37:38And like I said, that's where we have all the safari places and the people that are exotic animals.
00:37:43So that was the first thing I thought.
00:37:45And then we went back and talked to people all through there.
00:37:47And they said, no, we don't have none of that.
00:37:49Yeah, this is a lot more wooded than some of the areas that we've been in.
00:37:52Yeah.
00:37:52For other parts of this.
00:37:54And all that over there, it's all the national forests.
00:37:57You know, they got a couple of...
00:37:58Yeah, Sam Houston.
00:37:59They got...
00:37:59Huntsville State Park.
00:38:00Huntsville, yes.
00:38:01Oh, another State Park too.
00:38:03They're talking over 160,000 acres.
00:38:04Oh, yeah.
00:38:05Big place, big place.
00:38:06They call it the...
00:38:07What is it?
00:38:07The Piney Woods or something like that?
00:38:09The Piney Woods?
00:38:09Big Thicket.
00:38:10Big Thicket, yeah.
00:38:11Big Thicket's been coming up a lot.
00:38:12So, yeah, it's very interesting that people have...
00:38:14You know, all the old timers have stories about strange things out here.
00:38:18You know, I didn't believe them until I saw that crit or whatever it was.
00:38:21Where's the next neighbor this way?
00:38:22Well, we had a gentleman or neighbor as you're coming down the driveway over here on the right-hand side
00:38:26going that way.
00:38:26His name was EC and he would tell us stories about big black creatures at night.
00:38:31He'd see them leaning against the fence, upright.
00:38:33I personally never saw him, but when we first moved out of here, he'd tell us stories about that.
00:38:37And they had a restaurant across the road here.
00:38:40It used to be called Squeaky's and all the locals would go in there.
00:38:42That's where they'd go and just hang out and eat, you know, lunch and stuff like that.
00:38:46And they'd always be telling stories, you know, about creatures out here.
00:38:49Personally, the only thing I ever saw was the...
00:38:51I hear a lot of things, but that hyena-looking thing is the only thing I've ever really seen.
00:38:56When they were like, oh, the creatures out here, did they have a nickname or a name for them that
00:38:59they would call them?
00:39:00Or just the creatures?
00:39:01No, you know, I don't think anybody's ever really named them, but everybody's talked about them out here.
00:39:05And that's been going back way before us.
00:39:07Yeah.
00:39:08You know, these people have been out here for 100, 150 years.
00:39:10Yeah, they're pretty...
00:39:11That's, you know, the stories out here is, oh, it's anywhere from 8 to 11, 12 feet tall.
00:39:17Is there a known animal that you think could contribute to misidentification of Dogman?
00:39:21Well, there are healthy populations of wild canids throughout North America.
00:39:25Coyotes have really come back in terms of very strong population, even in urban areas.
00:39:30You have a lot of coyote populations.
00:39:32Officially, there are not supposed to be wolves in Texas, but they have found DNA of red wolves in South
00:39:37Texas.
00:39:38And then you have occasionally feral dogs that can be kind of big and nasty.
00:39:42So some of that might be a little bit of misidentification.
00:39:45I think one of the most interesting possible angles is when you look at examples of mangy bears.
00:39:51When an animal suffers from Scarcoptic mange, it makes their hair fall out.
00:39:59And in some cases, you know, they're entirely hairless.
00:40:02And if you've seen a picture of a hairless bear, it looks very monstrous and in some ways kind of
00:40:09looks werewolf-like.
00:40:12And of course, bears can walk on their hind legs, you know, or at least clumsily for short periods of
00:40:18time.
00:40:18So maybe misidentifications of mangy bears, maybe in some cases just big, scary, you know, feral dogs and wolves might
00:40:27contribute as well.
00:40:29You know, this is just a natural sort of reaction, especially from skeptics, is they're going to want to say
00:40:35it's a misidentification.
00:40:37Every species on the planet has a primary mode of locomotion.
00:40:41Humans, obviously, we're primarily bipeds. We walk on our hind legs, but we can crawl around on our all fours
00:40:47if we need to.
00:40:48Dogs and wolves and other animals can stand up briefly on their hind legs if they need to look around
00:40:53for danger or sniff something up high or whatever.
00:40:55When you're talking about the skeletal structure of canids, they're not really made to be walking upright.
00:41:03The quadrupedal locomotion is the natural movement of canids and their bone structure is built as such.
00:41:11And so I think it's very, very problematic when you're trying to make a case for a canid that's moving
00:41:17around like a human on its hind legs, even though people tend to throw in that detail.
00:41:21Oh, it's got those those backwards pointing legs or however they want to describe it. To me, that's not very
00:41:27convincing.
00:41:28It doesn't seem like something that would move very well on its hind legs.
00:41:31People who have these sightings truly experience something unexplainable.
00:41:36They saw something that they can't identify, something they can't quantify or put into rational terms.
00:41:44And when we start to theorize on that, we start at a baseline, which would be this is a flesh
00:41:50and blood.
00:41:51We know wolves, canids exist on our planet, and this looks like one.
00:41:57So therefore, we would theorize that this is one of those that's flesh and blood, but has extraordinary abilities to
00:42:05get up and walk,
00:42:06or is bigger for some reason.
00:42:09But when you start to play in the fact that we don't have a body, we've got all these sightings,
00:42:15you know,
00:42:16then sightings dating way back, legends and everything.
00:42:19That's when people play in other theories like, it must be more paranormal.
00:42:24Without question, the supernatural aspects of this dogman phenomenon far override anything biological or zoological in nature.
00:42:50Possibly the strangest case of all that I got to was close to about 20 years ago now.
00:42:57And I got to speak with a guy, a farmer, and he told me this story as to how he'd
00:43:05seen this strange creature, a dogman, prowling across his farm.
00:43:16The next morning, he found this stone on the floor, and it had been carved with this weird looking face
00:43:24with these fangs and these pointed eyes.
00:43:27And we could not put sort of an age on it.
00:43:35This was really weird because there had actually been a case like that way back in 1972.
00:43:43And it's called the Saga of the Hexham Heads.
00:43:48Now Hexham is a little old village in the north of England.
00:43:54And two young boys were digging, playing in their backyard, and they found two of these carved heads.
00:44:01And they took him in the house.
00:44:03The next night, they saw, in the house, this dogman type thing running through the house.
00:44:12And the front door was thrown out, and the creature ran into the darkness.
00:44:17Now, this is fascinating because you've got two cases, one in the north of England, one in Paradise, Texas, in
00:44:28the 20th century.
00:44:30And both angles of this relates to these stones.
00:44:35Now, what that means, I really don't know.
00:44:38But there's no doubt that there is this connection between ancient stones and the dogmen.
00:44:50In the traditional werewolf legends, werewolves were conjured, right?
00:44:55The traditional European werewolf was essentially the result of a pact with the devil.
00:44:59And there was usually some type of magical ointment or fur or a spell or something.
00:45:05It was all witchcraft and kind of black magic.
00:45:08And even in the Native American realms where we talk about skinwalkers and things,
00:45:12it's kind of a sense of a conjuring, so to speak.
00:45:16So, yes, I think these creatures, if they exist, or I should say these apparitions, entities,
00:45:22whatever you want to refer to them as, they are somehow conjured or brought forth
00:45:27either by us or by forces beyond our comprehension.
00:45:32Potentially, this dogman phenomenon could be the same exact phenomenon
00:45:35as people are experiencing with mothman and flying humanoids,
00:45:38and even things like the goatman and some of these other kind of anthropomorphic creatures.
00:45:44And are we dealing with some type of phenomenon that can change shapes and shapeshift
00:45:50and perhaps appear to look different ways depending on the experiencer?
00:45:55And so I think that's the smoking gun right there is we have to consider that our minds are potentially
00:46:00capable
00:46:01of all types of processes that we may not be aware of.
00:46:05And I think the concept of the tulpa or the thought form manifestation,
00:46:11is it possible that we're able to project things into our reality
00:46:15and that these experiences can actually be shared and that somehow we're connected to a level
00:46:20where you and I might both see this manifestation.
00:46:41So, Aaron, one of the common denominators that keeps coming up with Dogman is the psychological impact,
00:46:49and that can also actually bleed right into physical impact
00:46:56because of the fact that they essentially end up with a form of PTSD.
00:47:00They don't sleep, maybe they don't eat the same they're used to,
00:47:05it's constantly on their mind,
00:47:07and they feel like they can't probably really talk about it with anybody.
00:47:11That's common. Everything you just described is really common in sightings of this nature
00:47:15where people are impacted afterward, not just, oh, I saw something strange
00:47:19and maybe there's an animal I didn't know about it.
00:47:22It goes beyond that.
00:47:23There's really an element of fear that seems to be almost intimately intertwined with this phenomenon.
00:47:28I think no matter what the phenomenon is,
00:47:30once you see something that's so out of the realm of what is supposed to be normal,
00:47:35in one aspect, people can get this insane drive to just learn more, collect more stories,
00:47:41because that's the camp that I'm in.
00:47:42But then the other side of that is, you don't go in the woods,
00:47:46you don't want to read about it, you never want to talk about it,
00:47:49you may not even tell your own family that you've had this experience, right?
00:47:53So again, with that PTSD, it can go either way.
00:47:56I've spoken with one witness who has a really compelling story,
00:48:00and he will tell you he's had repeated encounters with these things on his own property,
00:48:04and he oversees 100 acres of ranch land in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,
00:48:09and I asked him to come out and talk with us and be interviewed,
00:48:13but for privacy reasons, for his own privacy, and then also for safety reasons.
00:48:18He said to me exactly I don't want anybody coming out on the property and getting themselves killed.
00:48:22Safety reasons specific to he feels that these are so aggressive that if we went out there, we would be
00:48:29in danger.
00:48:30Yes, 100%.
00:48:32What's the closest he's been to that?
00:48:34He said within 10 yards.
00:48:3710 yards?
00:48:38It's written about in the book, but he said it charged him,
00:48:41and he wasn't sure if it was a bluff charge or if it was actually after him,
00:48:45and he put multiple rounds into it, which knocked it on the ground,
00:48:48and then he put several more rounds into it as it was running away.
00:48:52That's his story.
00:48:53Yeah, big bag of milk right there.
00:48:56And this guy also has a military law enforcement background.
00:49:00He's got plenty of training.
00:49:01And so to hear someone like that with that kind of background and that kind of a demeanor
00:49:06describe something like an upright wolf in it, it's striking.
00:49:12So how does he go about his daily chores and ranch life?
00:49:15When you're out on a property this large, most people that are out there regularly carry a firearm anyway.
00:49:21And I asked him during our interview, have you changed your routine at all in the way you manage your
00:49:25property?
00:49:26And aside from carrying a rifle most often now instead of just a sidearm, nothing else has really changed for
00:49:31him.
00:49:31This guy is from the Texas Hill Country.
00:49:35He's used to being out in the wilderness.
00:49:37He's used to being around large and dangerous animals.
00:49:39These are people that don't scare me easily.
00:49:41His daily life now is completely changed.
00:49:46Because now he's choosing, I need a shotgun along with my sidearm.
00:49:50One of the things that's really intriguing is that when people have these encounters, it really changes people.
00:49:59Because nobody really expects to see a Bigfoot or a Dogman or a Loch Ness Monster.
00:50:07But sometimes somebody does.
00:50:13And it really does impact on their lives.
00:50:17And I do mean their lives, not just a bit of it.
00:50:20To see something which everybody has said, these things aren't real.
00:50:26You know, there's nothing to it at all.
00:50:28It's just jokes and stories and it's X-Files stuff, you know.
00:50:32And it's not.
00:50:33But to see something like a Dogman standing right in front of you, say at midnight with this creature salivating
00:50:42and staring at you.
00:50:44That must be terrifying for people.
00:50:46And I can easily see how this would destroy people's normal mindset.
00:50:53I've talked to a few witnesses that were certainly traumatized by these encounters.
00:51:00And in some cases, yes, they did not want to go into the woods or did not want to go
00:51:06alone or stayed out of the woods for years.
00:51:09And I think when a witness does illustrate that emotional reaction or you know they've been traumatized,
00:51:17it kind of supports what they're saying.
00:51:19You know, this isn't something that's kind of manufacturing or making up.
00:51:23Something happened.
00:51:24They saw something.
00:51:26That wasarta.
00:51:26Next week, we'll tell you more about these things.
00:51:27Come up again.
00:51:40Tex, I really appreciate you coming out and talking to us.
00:51:43Your name has come up a lot in our research.
00:51:45And so, I wonder if you could talk to us about this phenomena and some of your experiences with it.
00:51:50Sure, no problem. I appreciate the opportunity.
00:51:54Y'all have to excuse me because when I start talking about this kind of stuff,
00:51:58the first encounter, I don't care how many times I've told it,
00:52:01it's 80-something degrees and I'm getting goosebumps.
00:52:04The way I grew up since about the age of 12, I was carrying a gun.
00:52:09And, you know, I was hunting and fishing and trapping.
00:52:12When I was 16, I'd been rabbit hunting.
00:52:15And I was coming back home and I was walking on a white gravel road.
00:52:20And we lived down in the valley.
00:52:22The sun was just dipping below the ridge, but it wasn't below the horizon.
00:52:26So there was plenty of daylight.
00:52:28And I'm walking along and our fence borders the road this way.
00:52:32So I was fixing to jump the fence, take a beeline to the house.
00:52:36This thing comes busting out of the brush on my left-hand side, about 25 feet away.
00:52:42It runs across the road in front of me and it dove over our five-strand barbed wire fence.
00:52:49Hit the ground, went down to all fours and disappeared in the long grass.
00:52:53The image that I have froze in my head was when he was mid-stride, turned his head and growled,
00:52:59snarled at me.
00:53:01You know?
00:53:05When he froze, he was in a runner's stance.
00:53:07Not when he froze, but that's the image I have in my head.
00:53:10I can draw it and everything.
00:53:12He wasn't wooly, you know?
00:53:15He was more of a slick-haired fella.
00:53:18I remember the hair hanging down off his arms about this far.
00:53:22But it was, you could see the skin underneath.
00:53:24It was kind of thin.
00:53:25And that's how he was, you know, covered.
00:53:27But except when it came to his head.
00:53:30Starting about between his ears at the top of his head where I wish my hairline still was.
00:53:35And I could only call it a mane.
00:53:36That's what it looked like.
00:53:37And it went down his shoulders and down his back in a V.
00:53:41Okay, now that was what I thought was a mane.
00:53:46He was black with some gray or silver mixed in.
00:53:51But he didn't have that long, narrow wolf snout.
00:53:55It was shorter and blunt.
00:53:58The ears, his were lower on his head, but they were pinned back.
00:54:02Like when an old horse or a dog gets upset, he'll pin his ears back.
00:54:05That's what it was.
00:54:07And he turned his head and he growled at me.
00:54:09You talk about ice water in your veins.
00:54:12You know, I was, I was frozen.
00:54:14I didn't have the wherewithal to even run.
00:54:17You know, I'm sitting here with rabbits hanging off my belt.
00:54:21I'm like, I'm, you know, I'm dead.
00:54:24He just run off.
00:54:26You know, like I said, jumped, dove over the fence, hit all fours and he was gone.
00:54:30When I got home, I walked in the back door.
00:54:34I walked in the kitchen and I pretty much just collapsed in a kitchen chair.
00:54:37And I put my gun on the kitchen table.
00:54:40Big no-no in my house.
00:54:41Mama had a rule, no guns in the kitchen.
00:54:44And she goes, oh my God, what's wrong with you?
00:54:45You're white as a ghost.
00:54:48And I tried to tell her, but I could not talk.
00:54:52Now this encounter set me back on my heels for about six months.
00:54:58I didn't go anywhere.
00:55:00I didn't want to go anywhere.
00:55:01If I had to go to my sister's house or if I was over at my sister's house
00:55:04and had to come home after dark, it was a dead run.
00:55:07If I had to go to the barn, I didn't care what time of day it was.
00:55:10I was loaded for bear.
00:55:12My daddy and my mama was always asking me, what are you doing hacking a shotgun to go feed the
00:55:16pigs?
00:55:18Well, you know snakes.
00:55:20You know something like that.
00:55:21That went on for about six months.
00:55:23So I started going back out again.
00:55:25So there's this area that I used to hunt a lot.
00:55:28I was coming up through the creek and I heard something walking in the brush.
00:55:32At this point, I'm having flashbacks.
00:55:35What am I fixing to run into?
00:55:36I said, look, if you don't say something, I'm going to shoot.
00:55:41And it stopped.
00:55:42I fired a round off in the air.
00:55:46That may have been a mistake.
00:55:48This thing sounded like a bull coming out through that brush.
00:55:52All hell broke loose.
00:55:54I ain't too proud.
00:55:56I'll tell you right now, old Tex took tail and he run.
00:55:59All the way back to the house.
00:56:01I never looked back.
00:56:02If this critter was fixing to get me, I didn't want to know about it.
00:56:05You regret having the dog man in Canada?
00:56:08No, but you know, I did for a while.
00:56:12Because if you do open your mouth about it, your credibility is shot with a lot of people.
00:56:20But no, not anymore I don't.
00:56:31This came from a very good friend of mine.
00:56:34He's actually one of our trackers out in the field.
00:56:37He recorded this off his property.
00:56:40He's had an audio recorder sitting out because they had some activity.
00:56:44I honestly do not know what it is.
00:56:46I think they may have a dog man in the area.
00:56:50But anyway, shall we?
00:57:14What I haven't determined yet, and I'm listening and I'm listening and I'm listening, between the
00:57:20cows, there's a low, almost sounds like a grunt or a growl under there.
00:57:28Can you play it one more time for us, please?
00:57:52It's distinct, you can hear it.
00:57:53I didn't even pick up on that until you said that and now it just stands right out.
00:57:57I couldn't hear it very clearly.
00:58:14In terms of someone capturing one of these things, audio, video, where are we at as far
00:58:23as that goes?
00:58:24Admittedly, we don't have a lot.
00:58:26Most of the evidence that we have comes in the form of pictures of footprints, some claw
00:58:31marks, a few audio clips from here and there.
00:58:34I do have a video that was sent to me by another gentleman in Texas in a very rural area.
00:58:39And this is some kind of animal moving across the center frame and then doing what looks to me like
00:58:46either standing up on two legs or admittedly, possibly sitting down and turning to face the camera.
00:58:51And it's shot from quite a distance.
00:58:53It's about 100 meters on an iPhone.
00:58:55So, you know, you have what you have.
00:58:58But if you look at this, we've got this shape kind of loping through the field here, moving
00:59:04in a really strange fashion.
00:59:06Maybe it's an animal that's injured.
00:59:10Oh, I see that.
00:59:11Yeah, right there at the end.
00:59:13I can see where you could get the impression it popped up on two legs.
00:59:16But because the tree line is dark and that is a dark object, then you don't know if it just,
00:59:22as you say, turned away from the camera.
00:59:25It is so blurry, though.
00:59:27That's unfortunate.
00:59:28It is.
00:59:28And we're dealing with, and this is the highest resolution we have for it.
00:59:31So we're dealing with a very low quality clip.
00:59:33But what we can see in spite of that is the fact that something large is moving through the foreground
00:59:38here.
00:59:39It's moving in a strange way.
00:59:41And this is in a place where there aren't supposed to be wolves.
00:59:44There may be some wild cats out there.
00:59:46There aren't supposed to be bears out there, at least not in great numbers.
00:59:49So the list of likely candidates for this creature is fairly short.
00:59:55Now as for what happens after this video, because it cuts off pretty quickly, I don't know.
01:00:00I don't know why he stopped filming when he did.
01:00:02He says he's seen these things fairly regularly.
01:00:04So for him, this is not an extraordinary event.
01:00:07This is almost a daily occurrence.
01:00:09Okay, so size-wise, did he go out?
01:00:12Did he do any kind of size comparison to figure out what we're looking at here, maybe size-wise?
01:00:16According to him, gentlemen, he goes by John.
01:00:19According to John, these things are somewhere between seven and nine feet tall.
01:00:22When they stand on two legs.
01:00:24On four legs, he describes them as the biggest dog I've ever seen.
01:00:29All right, so we've seen another, unfortunately slightly blurry video.
01:00:32But what other evidence is there out there for Dogman?
01:00:34So we have footprints, pictures of footprints, several of which have been sent to me by the same individual.
01:00:39There are others that I've received from the San Antonio area.
01:00:42And then we have some audio clips that are definitely canine in nature.
01:00:46They sound like some kind of a canine animal, either howling or screaming, as some witnesses describe them.
01:00:53So we do have various pieces of evidence that, when we put them all together, start to form a picture.
01:00:59It's just a very blurry picture.
01:01:01It's like a lot of these things, you know, it swirls around some stories and you can see landmarks and
01:01:09there's people that are very certain about this stuff.
01:01:12But there's no smoking gun, you know, and there's no, there's no hospital report.
01:01:16There's no newspaper article, there's no sheriff's report filed.
01:01:22And those things would actually definitely be done if there was murders.
01:01:27Because it doesn't matter what killed the person, there's going to be these files.
01:01:34But of course, that segues into a conspiracy where it'll be explained away by saying that,
01:01:40well, those reports were redacted or taken or suppressed and the news wasn't allowed to print the story because these,
01:01:50the officials knew that it was a Bigfoot or knew that it was a werewolf or a dogman.
01:01:55And therefore, that's why we don't have documentation.
01:02:08I have a handyman business, but not strictly handyman.
01:02:12I build houses, remodeling, add additions.
01:02:15I mean, in other words, from foundation to the finished roof product.
01:02:20And I cater around the hill country and I have a lot of these old customers.
01:02:24These are well-established customers.
01:02:26They're real particular who they have around.
01:02:30But I started asking questions.
01:02:32At first, they're quiet and eventually they wound up opening up.
01:02:37And people have told me they have seen sightings in La Paz, Texas, west of Killeen, different area.
01:02:44But on this incident, a gentleman got killed.
01:02:50Of course, the sheriff went to do a report.
01:02:52You can look that up.
01:02:54And say it was a mountain lion.
01:02:56Big cat did it.
01:02:58Well, the captain, there's an article.
01:03:00The captain of the Division of North, it was not a big cat.
01:03:02It was something else.
01:03:04Left it alone.
01:03:05I don't know why.
01:03:06One day I was talking to my father-in-law and I asked him about this, about dog pen.
01:03:13And right away he opened up.
01:03:14My father was a retired Marine.
01:03:17He was a good friend of the captain of the Division of Wildlife.
01:03:22One month before this incident happened to this young guy who got killed, they had reports.
01:03:29They were sighting in that area around the Brasley River.
01:03:33So what they did, they got on the river at night, had cameras connected around the boat, and had the
01:03:41boat on a trolling motor, quiet.
01:03:45According to him, his buddy was telling them they were going along and they heard something on the bank.
01:03:50And when he heard something, they fired up the spotlights.
01:03:55It was the dog man.
01:03:57And they caught it on video.
01:03:59It was one month prior for that gentleman got killed.
01:04:02Now up to date, what's going on now in my area.
01:04:06On the 21st of this month, gentlemen reported a Bell Helic helicopter.
01:04:13There was no signal, no lettering, all blacked out, landed in our area.
01:04:18You always hear when the situation is getting extreme or getting out of control,
01:04:23that's when these helicopters are coming in.
01:04:29They're keeping quiet about it.
01:04:33Five people went up missing.
01:04:36Well, this lady, she had puncture wounds back of her neck, puncture wounds back of her shoulders.
01:04:43They claim it was suicide.
01:04:46Well, there was another one, a lot of the female, they found her dead.
01:04:51They didn't mention how she died.
01:04:53And then later on, they found the gentleman.
01:04:55And about a week ago, they found a Hispanic woman.
01:04:59And they still didn't say what she died of.
01:05:01There's still one missing.
01:05:03You see it.
01:05:04They spin it or try to cover it up and bring something ridiculous like that.
01:05:09She killed herself.
01:05:21So for you, because you go out and you do this as much as you can with all the other
01:05:26things that you're doing,
01:05:27when you're actually out there and you put yourself in one of those situations that you just mentioned,
01:05:32would you want to have those encounters or is that on the no list for you?
01:05:37It's a scary thought, yes.
01:05:39But no, I absolutely would want to see it.
01:05:42And, you know, whatever happens, happens.
01:05:45But I wouldn't avoid the possibility that I could see one.
01:05:50It would certainly answer a lot of questions and it would certainly be worth it, I think.
01:05:57Well, for me, yeah, I mean, that's why I do what I do.
01:06:01You know, I'm sort of gung-ho for all this stuff.
01:06:04You know, I like to go out into the woods and the lakes and the caves and all that,
01:06:10looking for all these different creatures.
01:06:11And I'll keep doing this as long as I'm able to.
01:06:17When you get to these really weird cryptids like Dogman,
01:06:21it just doesn't seem very viable scientifically.
01:06:24I mean, the physical descriptions, the behavior that's described,
01:06:28some of the other residual weirdness that seems to be associated with it.
01:06:31So I'm not saying it's not worth pursuing,
01:06:33because I think any reasonable person can pursue a mystery and try to gather more evidence and data.
01:06:40But in terms of cryptozoology, which is what I do,
01:06:43it just doesn't seem like something that I would, you know, put a lot of time and effort into.
01:06:47And therefore, I haven't.
01:06:48I've investigated a few cases, but it's not high on my priority list in terms of things to investigate.
01:07:16The thing about this experience and researching this phenomena, going on this journey and talking with these witnesses
01:07:23and becoming so invested in this story, is the things that are consistent and recurring.
01:07:29And it's not just the descriptions of these animals or whatever they are.
01:07:34The way that people respond to these things and the way that they feel after these encounters seems to be
01:07:39the most common denominator.
01:07:40But then, when you look at Texas as a whole, the history here is so diverse and the folklore goes
01:07:47back so far.
01:07:48You have the European settlers who brought the original werewolf stories with them from Germany and from England, for example.
01:07:55But then you also have Native American populations that have their own stories that have been around for much longer.
01:08:00You know, you could argue that it's had so much energy concentrated in it for so long that we're seeing
01:08:05some kind of manifestation.
01:08:06But again, then we go into what are these things? Animals, not animals, a mix of something.
01:08:12After talking to all these people, writing the book, it's not misidentification.
01:08:17This is whatever it may be. This is what they're seeing. And across the board, whatever it is, it's dog
01:08:22man down the line.
01:08:23What's the best evidence that you've come across?
01:08:25I think I generally agree with you. It's not misidentification. I don't think every case we can necessarily say that.
01:08:32Some of these are probably a dog, maybe a dog with sarcoptic mange, maybe a canine mix that has several
01:08:38different breeds involved.
01:08:39And that's why we get this really ghastly appearance. But there are too many cases that fall outside of the
01:08:45natural order of things.
01:08:46Like you said, that just don't look like animal misidentification.
01:08:49So some days I think what we have is an unidentified species, maybe one offs, hybrids, mutants.
01:08:56That's why we see them rarely. They don't reproduce, perhaps.
01:08:59But on the other side of the coin, you have the inexplicable.
01:09:02And we can't separate them from one another, but it's hard to look at them in the same box.
01:09:07So when I say I think there's more than one thing going on here, I think there's more than one
01:09:12thing going on here.
01:09:13Things like glowing red eyes, and people are very specific that the glow is coming from within.
01:09:18It is not an eye shine of any kind. That adds another layer to this being something else.
01:09:24I don't know that I can say that I think that they're flesh and blood.
01:09:27It's so difficult. I go back and forth.
01:09:30I'll read three or four cases that are roadside encounters, where it seems to be interacting with roadkill,
01:09:35and then it stands up on two legs and walks off into the brush.
01:09:38To me, that just seems like something an animal will do.
01:09:42You know, it'll notice a vehicle, it'll stop what it's doing, and it'll move away.
01:09:45But then, again, we have these supernatural cases.
01:09:48And if we can't fit them all into one category, how many things are going on here?
01:09:53I guess that's where I'm at now, is this just one thing?
01:09:58Or are we looking at multiple phenomena, multiple things that are overlapping with each other?
01:10:02The amount of time and effort that went into this project, I think, well I know, subverted my expectations by
01:10:09a lot.
01:10:09I knew it was a big undertaking, because when you're looking at this many resources and this many witnesses,
01:10:14it's going to take time to compile all that information.
01:10:17But I'm surprised, I even surprised myself, with how little sleep I got.
01:10:23So I'll get there at some point. At some point there will be a nap.
01:10:26But right now, there's still a lot to write down, there's still a lot to talk about.
01:10:43Original music plays
01:10:43Oh, a lot to write down a lot to write down a lot of prayer,
01:11:09rich men, sails of繊維,
