00:00Matthew Redfin as well, he'll fancy his chances to get on that podium, but it is Hendricks that leads at
00:05the turn just by just over a quarter of a second from the two Clegg brothers with Steven leading his
00:12elder brother. But it is Hendricks looking very strong here as they come in to the final 25 meters.
00:19Hendricks breathing away from Stephen Clegg here. Stephen Clegg coming back a little bit. Clegg is coming back a little
00:25bit. This is very interesting. Closer to us is Nathan Hendricks. Are they going to win their first gold medal
00:29of these championships? The South Africans looking very good. He's got it. Wonderful swim. Nathan Hendricks wins gold for South
00:36Africa. Super swim. And South Africa on the top of the medal podium in the men's S13 100 meters freestyle.
00:44Fabulous swim from him. Hendricks no doubt about that.
00:48Well, Clegg, Stephen was coming back very quickly, but just couldn't get that lead from that first 50.
00:56Yeah, no, he's got great turns, great starts, great turns. But again, Hendricks just proved to be a little bit
01:02too strong. Like we said, Clegg is working his way back to race fitness. When you have a year out,
01:08for whatever reason, it's difficult and he's getting quicker with every swim.
01:13It bodes well for the 50 later in the week. But Nathan Hendricks, they're celebrating where we absolutely where they
01:19finished until they get out and are reunited with their coaches.
01:21So Nathan Hendricks wins South Africa's first gold medal of this Commonwealth. So Matt Redfern is the bronze medallist in
01:29this men's S13 100 meters freestyle.
01:32And he did it from lane two, fifth fastest seed and stepped up to the bronze medal. Excellent swimming from
01:40him.
01:40Yeah, he'll be delighted to do that. First individual major championship medal for Matthew Redfern. He's a strong relay swimmer
01:48and he'll be really happy.
01:51He's trying to hold a smile back. I don't know why you go for it, mate. That's fantastic.
01:54And the local boy wins a silver in the men's S13 100 meters freestyle. It's Stephen Clegg. His brother James
02:03also in that final. Stephen in lane four.
02:10So bronze to England. Matt Redfern and a wonderful silver medal there. And they're having a great night, Scotland, aren't
02:15they?
02:16The second silver medal of this evening. And gone to Stephen Clegg. But the favorite, I think, starting off as
02:24favorite, and it's South Africa's first gold medal of these championships.
02:28It's Nathan Hendricks wins gold in the men's S13 100 meters freestyle. Fabulous swim from him. Very quick as well.
02:38And the new Commonwealth champion of the men's S13 100 meters freestyle is Nathan Hendricks of South Africa.
02:49For those who are able to please stand for the anthem of South Africa.
03:18get some more confidence.
03:18And if they're beingλε smaur, you're having to be occasion to play any more television travel sport.
03:39In the world Warp burgers on their way.
04:43The S13 men's 100m freestyle, Nathan Hendricks won it in style, a wonderful swim from him, silver to Scotland and
04:53the bronze to England.
05:23Silver medalist, representing New Zealand, Erica Fairweather.
05:34.
05:49Great 200, great distance freestyle as well, 8 and 15.
05:53She's got a busy program here.
05:56Finalists in Paris on each of the 48 under 15.
06:00So Australia the bronze and New Zealand the silver,
06:03but the first gold of these games,
06:05it goes to Lainey Pallister of Australia.
06:07Fabulous swim, her time at 359.56.
06:11Outstanding 400m freestyle.
06:13And that is the third fastest in the world this year.
06:18And it's an outstanding swim.
06:20Australia win the first gold of these games in the swimming pool.
06:23And it's gone to Lainey Pallister of Australia.
06:28World record holder in the short cross pool of the 800m freestyle.
06:32And now she's the Commonwealth champion of the women's 400.
06:35World record holder in.
07:03World record holder in 2013.
07:04A new сос reef barrage recorded in 2015.
07:04And this one is fairly ast custody.
07:25a tune you'll be getting used to throughout these championships in the swimming pool
07:29advanced australia fair rings out around the tollcross pool we go look at this
07:34so australia two three and four scotland in five and six northern ireland in one and seven
07:39with canada in the win if she does that tactic again that's in two forrester straight out the 400
07:44freestyle she's in three fredericks in four three big aussies two three and four then mcgill in five
07:51and shanahan in six for scotland seven and one of the northern irish women cullen and grace davis
07:58in the sprint freestyling and krieger of canada closes to us
08:11really good reaction to the gun up there in lane two that was on anderson of australia but uh
08:17the best start i think coming in lane four was hannah fredericks the 23 year old
08:22so going right the top there is grace davis an interesting start this first 30. it is and the
08:27starts are really important especially within that 200 to establish settling into that swim and as we
08:33can see here hannah fredericks has really utilized that start she's looking very smooth coming into
08:38this turn also going well closest to us is madison krieger of canada she was second to turn so it
08:45was
08:45fredericks first krieger of canada she was second to turn so it was fredericks first in four for
08:50australia krieger second for canada and then anderson of australia so my goodness me it's four then eight
08:57then two this is the 75 meter mark and still going very well is madison krieger and she could meddle
09:03you
09:03know her lifetime best is 208.1 and if she keeps this going anything could happen this is really
09:08fascinating also going well is shanahan in three uh in six excuse me and shanahan well she's got a
09:14very good back half as well so first over the hundred turn is fredericks second it's very close
09:20it looks like it was shanahan in six really good underwaters madison cream closest to us just outside
09:25of that shot of canada it really is hannah's still holding that lead but the who's coming second and
09:31third keeps changing key things with backstroke is making sure you've got great underwaters as well a
09:36lot of ground can be gained off the turn so this last turn is going to be really really important
09:41katie we know she's got great underwaters great strength and if she really nails this last turn
09:46we could see a great race down this final 50 neck and neck she's caught up with hannah fredericks really
09:52really well here well only half a second less than half a second between one and two and this is
09:58really
09:58interesting it is the big australian in lane number four it is at hannah fredericks but the scott coming back
10:05in six now katie shanahan coming back in six also coming back very quickly is jenna forrester in three
10:10the second australian look at forrester in three forrester in three fredericks in four the two australians
10:17six in shanahan i don't know who's going to get the touch it might well be jenna forrester 400 freestyle
10:22bronze
10:22and now gold on the two on the backstroke for the very last stroke oh my goodness me her batteries
10:28are phenomenal
10:28oh my word what's the first hour of the first set of finals we've had here jenna forrester bronze on
10:35the four under free utilized that underwaters there she didn't quite get that ground but she held steady
10:40with that stroke rate and you could really see that she wasn't slowing up wasn't tiring the tiring was
10:46coming through from the other athletes but yeah what a phenomenal swim straight off the back of the four
10:50under free i mean that's one heck of a warm-up well that's extraordinary isn't it absolutely extraordinary
10:57you would have thought of all the things that couldn't happen she wouldn't come back in the
11:00last 15 meters but right on the end of that stroke it wasn't uh it wasn't by much was it
11:06what was the
11:06the margin of victory very tight indeed it was uh well it was mighty tight point three
11:14jenna forrester here we go the new commonwealth champion a couple gold medal just 50 minutes before
11:20she won a bronze on the women's 400 meters freestyle and now jenna forrester of australia wins gold
11:27on the women's 200 meters backstroke what a double really tough 400 free 200 back in one session in
11:34less than an hour two medals bronze on the four free gold to an amazing swim from jenna forrester
11:44400 free and 200 back i still can't quite believe that katie shanahan the pastor she is very much
11:50the pre-race favorite the scottish crowd will be delighted
12:00you just see some of the assistants there just holding the athletes still
12:04on the starting blocks for this final of the women's sm10 200 meters individual medley
12:10uh the big guns right in the center looking very good indeed fey rogers started well cosworth's a
12:16pretty quick butterfly swimmer as well in lane five isn't she yeah she is she took bronze at the
12:21world championships in singapore behind fey rogers who's silver on that day but we can see it is
12:27greenwood who's attacked down this butterfly but rogers will turn first for the slimmest of leaders
12:3215 100 seconds in to the final turn she's gonna be difficult to catch at this point the eyes will
12:40be
12:40on the clock to see her split she is the british record holder at 228 52 the split there when
12:47she
12:47broke that was 152 26 so she's not too far off that if she can bring this home and what
12:53better way to do
12:54that than with the roar of a home crowd so rogers now will smell victory as she approaches that
13:01final 25 meter mark well this is some super stuff here from fey rogers it really is
13:06paralympic champion on the 100 fly brilliant for the freestyle and she's going well i'll tell you
13:11what's a great scrap of silver bonds and fourth at the moment there really is but no doubt about the
13:15winner it's going to be fey rogers and the young scott this is an outstanding swim fey rogers wins
13:21gold in the women's sn10 200 meters individual medley and the crowd's got absolutely nuts wonderful
13:27stuff from her a great gold and the second medley gold a lot of time there to get in there
13:34on that
13:35podium ahead of her compatriot and then canada on the podium again they've been on the podium every time
13:40this event has been at the commonwealth game since 2014. aurelie rivard not here this week we've
13:47talked about how the canadians brought a smaller team she was she was previously the medalist for
13:52every time for canada but there was no doubt about the winner here and we can see that excellent
13:57finish bronze the silver to greenwood and the new commonwealth champion the women's sm10 200 meters
14:04individual medley scottland's fey rogers paralympic gold medalist on the 100 meters flyer now the
14:10commonwealth champion in this sm10 200 i am and she won it pretty comfortably in the end didn't she
14:18new commonwealth champion women's
14:45what about for scotland in the swimming pool
14:48two 200 medleys have been swam duncan scott won the first one for the men and now the women's sm10
14:54200
14:54medley gold medal s10 100 meters butterfly and this i'm really looking forward to this the big scrap in
15:02lanes three four and five this where's your money going on these 100 fly they're in three and five
15:12it's the final of the men's s10 100 meters butterfly at the commonwealth games here in glasgow very good
15:17start in late five and also in late four actually late four it's uh fernando lu the big canadian and
15:24the black hat right at the center and he looked really good yeah lu's really gonna need to use that
15:28front end speed if he's got a chance of holding off the attack of the two australians because they both
15:35come back very very strongly blue turning first 26 45 oh it's actually saffy just getting the touch
15:43there's only four 100s in it but look at the turn that cole pierce had he is the defending champion
15:49he'll
15:50want to win again here and he's leading into that final 25 but look for saffy
15:55well this is fascinating isn't it it looks like gold and silver still just about leading
16:00gold closest to us from uh from the birmingham commonwealth games but look up there as saffy in
16:05lane three saffy finishing the fastest and i think he may get it we has done gold to saffy in
16:10lane three
16:11and it's a one two for australia alex saffy the 20 year old wins gold and the men's s10 100
16:17meters
16:18butterfly the silver to cole pierce and then just look to pay the price in the closing stages but
16:24you've got to attack it you've got to go with your race plan and hope that it works yes and
16:29you're
16:29right on the right hand side there he had a really good turn didn't he but then the second
16:32of 50 meters on the left hand side there from saffy my word it was quick it was saffy just
16:38finished
16:38so strongly very differently built and saffy tends to come up it doesn't have such a build-up of
16:43latte acid i don't think that cole pierce better here in glasgow and it was an excellent swim wasn't
16:49it yeah it was he knew that he was gonna have to put in a good performance to win the
16:54tussle
16:54against cole pierce and he'll be delighted to take that top spot
17:17what a night it's been for australia repeating the gold and silver from four years ago but
17:23just reversing the order of those two gold and silver medalists
17:28alex saffy was a silver medalist four years ago and now he's won gold
17:32and the defending champion this time has to be satisfied with the silver that's cool
17:37well here we go just two more finals on this first night of finance the women's 4x100 freestyle relay
17:41and australia go in as the fastest seeds and the big favourites
17:56it's the final women's final on this first night of swimming at the Commonwealth Games here in glasgow
18:002026 as the women's 4x100 freestyle relay and team australia starts as the favourites in lane four and
18:08meg harris will be leading them off also going quickly in three from wales as theogora taylor in
18:14the white hat and up there in two also amy canney going well for south africa it is looking at
18:20very
18:21level for second third and fourth place here really strong turn there from the australians using that
18:27underwaters but that white hat off scotland davis looking really smooth here really nice
18:34well this is an interesting first leg no doubt about the leaders and i think they're just going
18:38to keep on going and going they are the world record holders team australia and i wouldn't be too
18:43surprised that they haven't try and have a crack at that it's very fast 327 nine it's safe take over
18:49there from australia 0.19 that's very professional and the lead off left for australia in just about in
18:55second place now this is uh lear schlossen from england third just about in lane three as wales they're going
19:01very well indeed and up there in two south africa also going well in six is scotland and seven northern
19:08ireland but here we've got alex perkins who's fresh off that 50 fly she's looking very strong head down
19:15coming into the closing stages to hand over to the final swimmer in this relay
19:22another safe take over and another excellent swim for the australians so a 52 eight my word they're
19:28amazing that was alex perkinson now Molly O'Callaghan well she's the fastest in the four
19:32and 100 meters freestyle no one's going to catch her so it's going to be a bit of a parade
19:36swimming
19:37past the australian fans there this is outstanding from the australians she's actually got a
19:42a crack in her back in her spine so nearly didn't come to these commonwealth games didn't Molly O'Callaghan
19:47but that's the first 50 done australia over first second england but look at this battle for the bronze
19:53medal my word it looks like south africa at the moment leading that's Olivia Nell and really tight
19:59but it is australia taking the charge for this last 25. so it's Molly O'Callaghan of australia and she's
20:07going to bring australia through to go they are the defending champions and this is an outstanding swim
20:11let's just have a look at the time the championship record 330.0 and that's 331 so it's gold to
20:18australia
20:19excellent swim for them england get the silver and really tight for bronze and south africa win the
20:24bronze just ahead of scotland in fourth wales in fifth northern ireland in sixth but oh that's
20:33is that uh O'Callaghan on the final leg i think it might have been i think it was yeah
20:39really quick
20:40underwater we were watching her underwaters the other day in training so fast underwater they're fast and
20:45effective as well it's really small snappy kicks every movement is propelling her forward it's not
20:51just a wiggle or like doing the worm it's really propulsive and uh yeah keeping that streamlined
20:56position to get that hydrodynamic move makes it very very efficient yes another gold and the women's
21:024x100 freestyle relay they are so dominant at least it's quite amazing 53-0 off a flat and then there's
21:10mcarris receiving her gold medal and her little mascot mascot called finny and the unicorn is uh
21:19to represent the cone that normally gets put on the statue in george square kind of famous i'm not 100
21:26sure the history behind it and why it's there but it's very well known so yeah the orange cone is
21:31uh synonymous with glasgow there you go and don't forget that all the eight swimmers from australia not
21:39just these four but all eight the heat swimmers as well as the finalists getting medals
21:49so the gold medals here meg harris shayna jack alex perkins the third leg and then molly
21:54o'callahan on the left hand side there australia win gold and the women's 4x1 so far this evening
22:02henna they've had a total of 11 medals six of them gold so they are having a phenomenal evening tonight
22:16we knew the australians were going to be very done could possibly have won it
22:22so the final final on this first night of swimming here in tollcross it's the men's
22:274x100 freestyle relay give them a run for their money
22:34leander will be quick on the leadoff mills will be quick too south and very fast
22:44they're also going well in six that's four and six that's australia and south africa
22:44so it's the final final on this first night of swimming here in tollcross for an international pool
22:51in glasgow the east end of glasgow and a really quick start from the australian that is glidden south
22:57and going with them up there in lane three it looks like the end but we're not really going with
23:03them
23:03really fast bird first they also go well in six that's four and six that's australia and south africa
23:10they'll seem to be the australians picking a huge advantage of the underwaters off that turn here
23:15stroke for stroke australia breathing to the right there left sorry to england
23:22depending where they breathe through gives them a chance to see where they are in the field
23:28so south is time 47 0 well that's a games record of the individual 100 meters free
23:34out the water creating such a whitewash here it's going to be very difficult for them to catch up with
23:40team australia as he hands over to kyle chalmers well he didn't finish particularly well did he he
23:48really didn't some poor old kyle chalmers had a bit of a shocking start because the arm didn't go in
23:52very quickly but now the charge is on for the minor medals no doubt about the leader and that's that
23:57wonderful tattoo on his chest all across his chest and that is the incredible shape of kyle chalmers
24:03the australia the charge for silver and bronze and fourth it looks like england at the moment
24:07looking pretty good with jacob with on the final leg also going well up there is canada and scotland
24:13and south africa what a battle for bronze it is and chad lakuo anchoring that south african
24:19if he can get south africa on to the medals then he has that 19th medal so team australia
24:26yet again going to win gold men score by 100 meters freestyle relay here in scotland
24:31australia win the gold the silver goes to england and i think south africa to get the bronze they do
24:37their second bronze of the night and that is the 19th commonwealth medal for chad lakuo that takes him
24:45clear out as the most meddled commonwealth male athlete in history and he's absolutely delighted
24:53with that a super swim from the aussies how to make those split second decisions in those moments
24:59well look at the speed there well kyle chalmers looked very good indeed his anchor leg 46.93
25:07so they had a 47-0 lead off flint south just phenomenal and with a dodgy start 46.9 there's
25:14the anchor leg and that's kyle chalmers they win gold team australia on this first night of swimming
25:20led off by flint south and flint's lead off time 47.09 a new games record for 100 freestyle
25:27off of flint and also receiving gold medals and then kyle chalmers second 47.5 47.9 from harrison
25:36turner on the third leg well kyle chalmers kind of ruined the 47th street because he went 46.9
25:42on the anchor leg new championship record quite phenomenal that was amazing two historic swims
25:49within one absolutely brilliant southam on the right the left hand side the ankle leg there australia
25:57yet again commonwealth champions on the men's four by 100 meters freestyle
26:13well they came they saw they've absolutely plundered tonight haven't they the australians six gold medals
26:21absolutely incredible 11 medals in total team england on the left hand side they're winning the silver
26:28medal jimmy guy yet again marvelous
