Europe's deep-tech industry is facing a multi-billion-dollar funding gap. While many believe Europe needs bigger investments to compete with the United States and China, others argue that slower, more strategic growth may actually be Europe's greatest advantage.
Recent reports from leading research organizations have highlighted a shortage of late-stage funding for European deep-tech companies. As a result, many promising startups rely heavily on foreign investors to scale their businesses.

Unlike software startups, deep-tech companies require years of scientific research before commercialization.

Whether it's battery technology, quantum computing, semiconductors, or advanced robotics, innovation cannot be accelerated overnight.

Yet many founders say they're under pressure to deliver Silicon Valley-style growth at unrealistic speeds.

Today, deep technology represents nearly one-third of Europe's venture capital market, with an estimated value of around 690 billion dollars.

However, approximately 70 percent of Europe's largest late-stage funding rounds are backed by non-European investors, raising concerns about long-term technological independence.

To address this challenge, the European Commission has announced new initiatives, including expanded funding through the European Innovation Council and plans for a Scale-up Europe Fund.

Investor Rajat Khare, founder of Boundary Holding, offers a different perspective.

He believes that not every funding gap should automatically be viewed as a weakness.

According to Khare, Europe's engineering strength has been built on precision, patience, and scientific excellence rather than rapid expansion.
