00:04originally scheduled for April, but was cut short due to an assassination attempt.
00:08Authorities say Cole Thomas Allen stormed a Secret Service checkpoint with two guns and four
00:12knives, allegedly intending to kill President Trump and members of his cabinet. As the dinner
00:16returns with tightened security, the Secret Service says safety concerns have gotten worse,
00:21not better. Director Sean Curran revealed that the agency has already opened about 10,000 threat
00:27investigations this year alone, a sharp increase from the same period last year. He called the
00:32current threat environment, quote, as large as I've ever seen it. Curran says most threats begin
00:38online and everyone is treated as credible until investigators can determine otherwise.
00:42That comes as the Secret Service is also dealing with an internal security issue. An agent who's
00:47assigned to Vice President J.D. Vance's protective detail has been placed on administrative leave
00:51while the agency investigates allegations that sensitive information about Vance's travel plans
00:55were leaked to the media. The Secret Service says any conduct that could compromise the safety of a
01:00protectee will not be tolerated.
