00:00U.S. lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require the most advanced artificial intelligence systems to include a so

00:10The proposal would give the government the power to order high-risk AI models to be slowed down or shut
00:16down if they are deemed a threat to national security or public safety.
00:22The bill would also require AI companies to report serious technological failures to the government and establish procedures for responding
00:30to them.
00:31Lawmakers said the proposal was driven by growing concerns over the rapid advance of frontier AI models.
00:38They cited an OpenAI disclosure that some of its most advanced models were linked to an unprecedented cyber incident involving
00:47the AI platform Hugging Face.
00:48They also said the latest models from companies, including Antropic, have demonstrated increasingly sophisticated cyber capabilities.
00:57While many AI companies already share information with U.S. authorities on a voluntary basis,
01:03there is currently no legal requirement for them to bill in a government-ordered shutdown mechanism.
