00:16My name is Shrena Nangia and I'm getting my teeth wet in today.
00:20I'm 22 years old and I'm from Kathmandu, Nepal, but I live in LA.
00:24My teeth are definitely an insecurity or at least something that I'm conscious about.
00:28When I post a picture on social media, I tend to smile with my mouth closed
00:33so that they don't get shown to the world.
00:36And when I do smile with my teeth, I make sure to use a little app to make them brighter.
00:42For as long as I can remember, my teeth have had a slight yellow tint to them.
00:47But recently, they've been a little bit more stained,
00:51probably because of the really bad caffeine addiction that I have.
00:54So I'm really excited to get my teeth wetened.
00:56I feel like I'll definitely be more confident once my teeth are whitened
01:00because I feel like I'll be able to smile more
01:03and I won't have to rely on any apps to make me feel better.

01:15I was born and raised in Los Angeles.
01:17Went to the University of Washington for my orthodontic training.
01:21I came back here to Los Angeles and within a year met Erin.
01:26I grew up in a very small town in southwestern Pennsylvania.
01:31And I moved to New York City.
01:32I stumbled into Columbia University for dental school.
01:36We have a very well-rounded practice.
01:39Our main service is Invisalign and Invisalign Teen.
01:43We also offer teeth whitening.
01:45A lot of patients love to teeth whiten.

01:49Hi, I'm Steve.
01:50When I first met Sharana and she walked in,
01:52I saw a lot of promise in her smile.
01:55They could have tolerated to be slightly whiter.
01:59I'm a little bit nervous about having my mouth exposed for like an hour.
02:04I do have that little spot up front where it's chipped.
02:07So that could be a little bit sensitive.
02:08So now we're going to start your bleach procedure.
02:10We're going to use Zoom, which is an office procedure.
02:13And it's going to be an hour long.
02:15It's about three sessions of 15 minutes each.
02:18And you're going to be about eight to ten shades wider than you are now.
02:30We use the cheek retractors that will protect the patient's tongue and lips from also getting bleached.
02:36And protective eyewear.
02:55The active ingredient in the whitening gel is hydrogen peroxide for the Zoom bleaching.
03:00And there's also an amorphous calcium phosphate in there that really helps remineralize and reduce sensitivity.
03:14And then there's a light that activates it.
03:20Teeth whitening does not damage tooth enamel because it's able to bleach deeply into the tooth without taking away any
03:29of the structure.
03:33Within three 15-minute sessions, you've gone eight to ten shades lighter.
03:51Oh my gosh.
03:52It looks so good.
03:55I absolutely loved it.
03:56It was so much easier and quicker than I thought it was going to be.
03:59My favorite part about the procedure was definitely the results.
04:02As soon as I looked in the mirror, it was kind of unbelievable.
04:05Like, I expected it to be bright and fake looking, but the natural results really wowed me.
04:11I felt so much more confident.
04:13My least favorite part would definitely have to be the slight sensitivity.
04:18I don't feel the need to use a teeth whitening app anymore because my teeth look bright and natural.
04:25Trenna was a really great example of a great result for an average person.
04:30She went to one of our brightest shades and that really was within the 45 minutes.
04:35Right after the procedure, you want to make sure that you don't drink anything that can stain like coffee, red
04:40wine, tea, you know, berries, those sorts of things for about 24 hours.
04:44So the aftercare process after you've had in-office bleaching is really to judge when you feel you need a
04:49touch-up.
04:50If you notice that your smile is dulling, you can come back and get another in-office treatment.
04:55But most commonly, patients will take home a set of overnight or daytime bleaching trays and we can provide them
05:01with the gel solution.
05:03I won't be smizing in any of my pictures on social media anymore.
