Thom Browne is a master of theatricality — from the clothes he designs with borderline couture-levels of intricacy and detail, to his sets, which transport showgoers in a way that most staged runway shows can't ever hope to do. We went behind the scenes of the show's setup, which began at midnight the evening before and pushed through straight to showtime at 5 p.m.

00:04Today is a study of science against science.
00:06This is a study of science.
00:06One of the studies of science, so Trans тыс,

00:35A lot of people would look at it as a dark type of theme.
00:39I like to take those type of ideas and make them romantic and playing opposite of what
00:45most people would associate with that type of theme.
00:47It's really playing with the idea of romanticizing the angels taking people to heaven.
00:53After meeting Stephen Jones, I almost make excuses on using hats because of how beautiful
00:59he is to work with and what a pleasure and a luxury and an honor it is to work with
01:04him.
01:04The old world idea of women wearing hats is really beautiful and the idea of not just the
01:10hats but also the veiling that really creates this ethereal, really beautiful feeling and
01:15I think that really plays into the story of this show.
01:19Tom really devotes a lot of time and energy to coming to London and hanging out in my studio
01:26for days and days on end.
01:28And when you're working together there's lots of surprises because you come to each
01:32season with a blank sheet of paper and so you have to sort of find your way and it's baby
01:37steps at the beginning and then you have a great idea.
01:40There's lots of different inspirations going on there.
01:42They are sometimes based on the idea of a hairdo but there's, you know, influence of morning
01:49hats as well and, you know, every single hat's a different shape.
01:52I, you know, I'm quite happy at the end of the show too where I sort of haven't keeled
01:56over and somebody hasn't stabbed me and life is still going on.
02:00But that's the passion of fashion.
