00:00Samsung has its big hardware event. Let's start on the smartphone side of what Samsung's announcing. Where is their focus?
00:09So three new phones. There's the new flip phone. There's the new ultra phone, the Z Fold 8 Ultra. That's
00:16their high-end foldable phone.
00:18But I want to talk to you about the Z Fold 8, which is their new mid-tier foldable, replaces
00:23the larger size they've had for a few years now.
00:25It's the one you're showing on screen right now. It's incredible. It's amazing. It's going to sell super well.
00:32It's the same exact form factor that Apple is going to be releasing this fall. The wide format is awesome
00:38for gaming.
00:39It's pretty good for multitasking. Where it really shines is e-book reading and watching video on YouTube and what
00:45have you.
00:46It's a little shorter than your typical phone, but wider. It's a really cool form factor.
00:52You have to get your hands on it to really understand it. I'm pretty pumped for the Apple version, but
00:57the Samsung one is going to do great, too.
00:59Okay, smart glasses. Samsung has actually had quite a lot to say about smart glasses.
01:04Where are they on the product side, and why are they worried about privacy when it comes to smart glasses?
01:11Yes, so they're launching their glasses in concert with Google and Warby Parker and Gentle Monster later this year.
01:19We're told these have about nine hours of battery life.
01:21These are standard fare. All the smart glasses without displays that you're seeing from Meta, from Google, now from Samsung.
01:27You'll see them from Apple II next year.
01:30They're pretty much all the same product. Cameras, audio technology.
01:34But Meta, as fast as the category is growing in terms of sales and usage,
01:39is as fast as people are becoming concerned with the privacy of these products.
01:43Royal Caribbean has banned them from casinos and bathrooms and children play areas on its ships.
01:50There have been courthouses in Wisconsin, New York, and Pennsylvania that have banned these things.
01:55There's a lot of concern about the privacy implications.
01:57And, of course, that is because of the Meta privacy baggage that they've had for years now.
02:02So, Samsung, Meta with its own pair of glasses, Apple, of course, are really going to need to figure out
02:09the privacy story here
02:10to get people not only comfortable wearing them, but to get people around people who are wearing them to be
02:16somewhat comfortable.
