00:00I don't know if this is Rico, Paul, David, all three.
00:02Go ahead.
00:05Oh, geez.
00:07What are we celebrating, SEC Media Day?
00:09We are not celebrating SEC Media Day,
00:12but we are about five weeks away from the college football season.
00:17And so I wanted to go through here contenders,
00:21or should I say frontrunners, for the college football national title.
00:25But I want to start first with some dark horse teams, okay?
00:31So, no, the dark horse team is not Michigan people, for those listening, not at all.
00:36Let's just talk about it here.
00:37And I'm going to start with a team that is near and dear to your heart, Michael,
00:42because of the coach and the quarterback that have gone there,
00:46and that is Oklahoma State.
00:49The Meston maker.
00:51North Texas has gone to Oklahoma, taken over Oklahoma State.
00:56And here's why I mentioned them.
00:57They got Wyatt Young.
00:58They got Caleb Edwards.
01:00Correct.
01:00They got the Meston maker and Eric Morris in that one play per 20 seconds offense.
01:05How quickly can they turn that thing around and go to North Texas?
01:08Well, let me give you something here, because non-conference-wise, yes.
01:13Second week of the season, they have Oregon.
01:15Probably losing that game.
01:17Uh-oh.
01:17When you go to the conference.
01:19Where's the game?
01:19Stillwater.
01:20That's at Stillwater.
01:21Okay, okay.
01:21They went up to Eugene last year and lost like 80-2.
01:24Well, it's back here now.
01:26Back in the game, baby!
01:27But if you look at their conference schedule, it is favorable.
01:31Yeah.
01:31The only game they have would be No. 8 Texas Tech in Boone Pickens Stadium.
01:37But what will they look like without Sorsby?
01:40No, look, here's what I would say.
01:42I'm careful about this.
01:44I loved everything North Texas was doing.
01:46I loved Eric Morris.
01:47I thought it was a great move for him.
01:49If they're going to financially support him, which clearly, they had some money to get
01:54Meston Maker and to get Wyatt Young and to get these, they could win eight games.
01:59Because if you have a quarterback and then you have the running back and you have his
02:02main wide receiver and you have the play caller, the implementation of the offense, you fast-tracked it.
02:08But I'm not ready to say they'll have the supporting cast necessary to go much beyond that.
02:14But at Oklahoma State, that's a proud program.
02:17And if you go back and look over the last 20 years, that's a program that on a consistent
02:21basis could win nine, ten games.
02:23I think an eight-win season could be in order.
02:25Can they make the Big 12 championship game?
02:27I'll say no.
02:28Okay.
02:28And you're saying, but they play Oklahoma, right?
02:31They do not play Oklahoma.
02:33No.
02:33You ruined that.
02:34Oklahoma's in the SEC now.
02:36You left Oklahoma State behind.
02:38You left your kid.
02:39That's like leaving your kid at the supermarket.
02:41And mom drove home.
02:42Did that make you angry?
02:43Yes.
02:45Job well done.
02:46I love that game.
02:47Great job by me, not by you.
02:50I'll say eight wins.
02:51Okay.
02:51Let's move over to another possible dark horse, a team that is near and dear to your
02:57heart, Rico.
02:58Well, Maryland.
02:59Their quarterback's been gone, but it's Washington.
03:02But he's back.
03:03DeMond Williams is there.
03:05He's back.
03:05He's gone.
03:06He's alienated everybody.
03:08He's back.
03:09So they have on the road, they have to go to USC and they have to go to Oregon.
03:17So can it be a dark horse for a national title?
03:21For a national title, I don't think so.
03:24But I think they could make their way into the playoff, David.
03:27I think that they could.
03:28If they could split one of those games, USC, I need to see USC actually do something.
03:35They get a lot of names, but they don't win.
03:37At home, they do have Iowa, Penn State, and Indiana.
03:41Look, only this at home.
03:43Only thing I'll offer you to, DeMond Williams is back.
03:46Four starting O-Linemen are back.
03:48That's a great way to start your deal.
03:49But I leave the rest to him.
03:51Indiana, I'm going to say the same thing.
03:54Indiana traveling west.
03:55Once you cross the Mississippi, for some reason, East Coast teams don't do well on the West Coast.
04:00And then finally, in the dark horse category that I've chosen would be Clemson.
04:05I'm done.
04:06Leave me alone.
04:06It's the ACC.
04:07Michael, check, please.
04:08They have Miami at home, and that's all they have on their schedule.
04:12Except for LSU to open up with.
04:13Does the ACC even count?
04:15Uh-oh.
04:16If you go undefeated in it, right?
04:18Don't upset Sebastian the Ibis back there.
04:22They beat Miami on October 3rd and then go undefeated in the ACC?
04:26I got to see the quarterback play.
04:28That's fair.
04:29I just got to see it to believe it.
04:30I know Clubnick didn't have the year I thought he'd have last year.
04:34Man, I'm out of the Dabo business.
04:37Rico's finally worn me down.
04:38And somehow Clemsoning has come back into the lexicon of college football.
04:43We're right back to the Woody Dantzler days.
04:45I'm out.
04:46Well, they find a game, and they're like, how about we lose this one?
04:50Yeah.
04:51Sign C.J. Spiller.
04:53Yeah, I'm out on that.
04:55Got to see the quarterback play.
04:56And so when it comes to the front runners, they have five.
04:58I believe in just three of them.
05:00The other two, let's talk about because I have question marks with them.
05:03Paul, did we do the ACC a discredit?
05:07I mean, you kind of made fun of Miami a little bit, but no.
05:10Okay, let's keep making fun of Miami because that's one of the teams I have question marks with with the
05:14front runners.
05:14They have Miami as a front runner, but it's still Darian Mensah.
05:22Is he better than Carson Beck?
05:23If you think he answers yes, then yes.
05:26Well, but here's the thing.
05:27Yeah, Mario Cristobal, that's legitimate.
05:30You're surrounding yourself with better players.
05:32Mensah is.
05:33So I do think that that's going to be a plus for him.
05:36He doesn't have to do everything on his own.
05:38So I actually think he'll do well in Miami.
05:41The Cristobal thing, I can't argue.
05:43He just does dumb things.
05:45I mean, they do have a ton of returning production as far as total snaps taken.
05:49I think Torre is back at linebacker.
05:52Mensah's up and down.
05:53If he can stabilize his play.
05:55Look, here, how about that?
05:57I'll say it this way.
05:58Yes, I believe in them based on you got to have a pathway.
06:03To the playoff.
06:04They do.
06:05So they do.
06:06Now, once they're there, who the hell knows?
06:09I kind of think you go full Cristobal and he does something stupid.
06:12But I'll say yes, because their pathway is easier than anyone in the Big Ten or SEC.
06:17You're right.
06:18Their toughest schedule was at my I'm sorry, at Notre Dame.
06:21So they're getting there.
06:22You have one loss.
06:23You're getting there.
06:24Right.
06:24And looking at this looks like they have a new offensive line, which is always problematic.
06:29Watch out for that flaming brisket truck down in Winston-Salem.
06:33I'll just say this.
06:34Smoke everywhere.
06:34One guy to watch locally if you want to watch an exciting college football player, Malachi
06:38Tony.
06:39Oh, he's a monster.
06:41I mean, he's a vintage Miami receiver.
06:44Now, he's diminutive.
06:45But he's explosive.
06:46Yeah, he's like Santana Moss.
06:48Yeah, it's a good one.
06:49Good comp.
06:49He's excellent.
06:51That's enough Miami talk.
06:52The other team that is questionable for me in the front-runner category would be Georgia.
06:56No, Michigan is not in the front-runner category.
06:58Georgia.
06:59Gunnar Stockton did not have a good year last.
07:02He stunk.
07:03I'm being nice.
07:04Georgia's passing game stinks.
07:06Their route combinations stink.
07:09The offense stinks.
07:11I got to see it.
07:12And I understand Kirby's unbelievable, and he's had an unbelievable run, but I'm getting
07:16a little bit tired of it.
07:17Like, are you going to show me the vintage you had, or are we going to keep looking at
07:22what we call Georgia light?
07:24Less filling.
07:26I'm going to say no.
07:27I think Gunnar Stockton stinks.
07:29So I'm just going to say no out of spite.
07:31I've had enough.
07:32Yeah, I mean, unless one of the young receivers can step up and do something, yeah, they just...
07:38They waste receivers.
07:39They had Zachariah Branch.
07:43Oscar Delp was supposed to be a star.
07:45They had the talent.
07:46But they're wasting it.
07:48Their scheme is so archaic.
07:50He's right, you know.
07:51Might have Jim Bowman coordinating that thing.
07:54I just didn't understand why they had them in the front runner.
07:57Because of Georgia.
07:58Whoops.
07:59You want to go to the garage and do some karate?
08:02David, Georgia, Alabama.
08:05Yeah.
08:05You're always going to...
08:06Bama's going to be the most fascinating storyline, because basically, the minute they lose a game,
08:10Kalen DeBoer is going to end up on Diego Garcia.
08:13He's going to end up on...
08:14He'll be Napoleon.
08:15He'll be exiled.
08:16I can't wait.
08:17Bama, it is all or nothing right now.
08:21That is your college football blitz, 97-1.
08:24That is your college football blitz, 97-1.
08:25That is your college football blitz, 97-1.
