AFP releases footage of July 20 Ayungin Shoal encounter

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) releases video showing Philippine Navy personnel aboard rubber boats deployed from BRP Sierra Madre conducting what it described as a lawful and non-confrontational operation on July 20, 2026, to drive away a China Coast Guard rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) that had unlawfully approached the vicinity of the outpost at Ayungin Shoal, within waters where the Philippines exercises sovereign rights under international law. According to the AFP, China Coast Guard responded by striking Philippine Navy personnel with wooden batons and damaging the Navy's rubber boats. The military said Filipino troops exercised maximum restraint, professionalism, and discipline throughout the incident despite the aggression.
