00:00I've been with Stagecoach now for coming up towards seven years.
00:04I'm not originally from Devon, I'm a south east boy originally from Kent, a little town called Sittingbourne.
00:09Came down here with my previous employment and have stayed here since because I just love the area.
00:12The festival this year was called Live at Power Room, run by TK Maxx.
00:16Our involvement this time was we were the sole provider of their public transport, getting them out there on a
00:20contract,
00:22providing 80 to 130 buses over the course of the weekend per day, moving up to 15,000 people I
00:28believe.
00:28We used the analogy of the swan. Above the scene it looks calm and collected, below the feet are pedalling
00:34away.
00:34It was the first day of the event, myself and another supervisor were coordinating the buses drop off,
00:39parking the buses up when required and sort of coordinating the drivers from there with the other supervisors from other
00:44sites.
00:44While we were there, security had brought a lady out to us who was extremely distraught
00:49and they relayed to us that she had received a phone call from a relative saying her father had been
00:55rushed to hospital
00:56and wasn't expected to have a particularly long remainder of his life.
01:00She needed to leave the site urgently.
01:03As a supervisor out there, you look for any solution to the problem you can.
01:07Due to the driving hours and the nature of the routes we were running, the drivers weren't able to drive
01:12that service at that time.
01:14So the sensible option was for me as a supervisor that hadn't driven to take one of the buses and
01:19drive her to her destination
01:21to try and get her there as quick as we could to allow her to get into her family when
01:24she needed to be there.
01:26She reiterated at the point over and over again how much it meant to her and her family that we
01:30were able to get her there as quick as we could,
01:32which enabled her to be with her father. Unfortunately, he did pass because she was there in time to be
01:37there for him and her family.
01:38The anecdote she used was that the old heroes wear capes, some drive double-decker buses.
01:43The supervisor out there and someone that's been highlighted for the situation I was involved in,
01:47I think the thanks needs to go to all the staff out there.
01:50The term we've got you was fully applied. Thousands of people in high heat, high intensity environments
01:57and I think it's just important to note that the whole weekend people were going above and beyond.
