00:20Because there is a relish in getting an audience to enjoy being bad with you.
00:24Which is like, you know, it's a long classical tradition.
00:26That's like Iago and Richard III giving this a little quiz to the audience.
00:29But then when you're playing a good guy, you find the same relish there.
00:33There's something really fun about watching how heroes struggle against those moral barriers that bad guys don't have.
00:39So it's just different types of fun.
00:44Nothing different. I follow the same process.
00:46A lot of the time I'll stay in an accent or a rhythm, like a vocal rhythm when I'm working.
00:52I know that I was in the States and we were in the middle of Covid at the time.
00:58I remember calling home. I'd call home in Carmichael's voice.
01:03And none of my friends wanted to talk to me because I was like, this guy is just awful.
01:07It's like, we know you, we know you're nice, but when you're being this guy, this is just outrageous.
01:12Which I took as a really, really good review.
01:14Because that's what you want people to feel when you're playing a bad guy.
01:18All of them. I'm greedy. I like being surprised. I like, I'll do a comedy as quickly as I'll do
01:24a tragedy.
01:25I think that you need a balance between the two anyway.
01:28I think that the most tragic events have something heartbreakingly comic about them because they are so absurd.
01:34Life is inherently absurd. And likewise I don't think comedy is really funny unless there's something just a little bit
01:39heartbreaking underneath it.
01:40So you always want to live on a razor's edge.
01:45It's about finding a way to navigate the world with grace.
01:48Finding a way to enable yourself to express yourself as fully as you can.
01:53But also with a sense of generosity.
01:55So that you're moving through the world in harmony with both yourself and the people around you, with your environment.
02:01So that you can spark joy not just in yourself but also with people around you at the same time.
02:05Finding that balance, that marriage, that form and function, simplicity, that's elegance.
02:13Sydney is actually always fairly near the top of my list.
02:16Because everywhere in Australia you can kind of drive out of the city and find yourself gloriously lost very, very
02:22quickly.
