00:01Aaron? Alice? Thank God, do you hear me? Are you okay? Daniel knows.
00:07Congrats to you both on the new film. Absolutely amazing. It's really a twisting, turning mystery.
00:13Jacqueline, I'll start with you. But what initially led you to this project?
00:17Just the chance to work with that team of Eric Banner and Robert Connolly and Bruna, Jodie and Steve.
00:24Made up stories who have done so many amazing things. I'm sure you're across what they've been doing for Australian
00:29content.
00:29And women in film and television. And Robert Connolly, who I've just wanted to work with at a much deeper
00:37level than when I worked with him so long ago in a short film straight out of acting school.
00:41And Eric Banner, who I have loved for so long. And I was a guest on his comedy show back
00:47in the day.
00:48And he was just such an energy even then, like such an energy. And I remember thinking, my God, I
00:54was watching him do these comedy routines live and then come back and do a bit more of an interview.
00:59And then in a commercial break, he's off getting another, like some stand up thing he was doing. I'd never
01:03seen anything like it.
01:04Amazing. Well, you mentioned it there, but with the exception of Eric, it is kind of a female led ensemble
01:09cast, which is something I feel is really refreshing in Australian film.
01:12Robin, what was it like to work with so many amazing actors?
01:15It was a real privilege to be around. I mean, we didn't have many moments together, but I'm a huge
01:22fan of Jack's. And yeah, working with Anna so closely, Anna Torv, who's just, yeah, mind hunter.
01:30Just since then, I've been, I've held her on a pedestal. I literally couldn't watch it. It was too much.
01:34It's too scary.
01:34So brilliant. And yeah, so, and being with Eric as well, there's such an ease and craft that they both
01:43have that's just effortless. So it's wonderful to have worked on this project with these, yeah, with these characters and
01:52in this genre too. I think it's really refreshing.
01:55Yeah. You've done a lot of detective genre, right?
01:57Well, I did one, I did one, oh, I did a movie that never made it to series with Guy
02:02Pearce playing an undercover cop. That was fun. That was a long time ago.
02:05And then I played a Homeland Security detective on 4400 in a sci-fi, which is brilliant. I loved it,
02:11but nothing like this.
02:13Yeah, this is so uniquely Australian.
02:15This setting itself is so different from what I think we've ever seen in an Australian landscape before. I think
02:20Jane Harper's work has this amazing ability to turn the landscape into a character.
02:24All of its own, but this is something completely different. What was it like to film in the rainforest kind
02:29of jungle aspect of Victoria?
02:31Well, on our first day in the Dandenong Ranges, we had a welcome to country. We're on Wurundjeri land. And
02:38it was really special to have that welcome because it immediately grounded us as a cast into connection with the
02:46sacredness of the landscape.
02:47And our Australian bush has a history that predates, you know, everything. So it was really special to have that
02:57connection and then be working with the trees and the water.
03:00And it was, for me, it was like a deeply spiritual experience. And I felt so lucky to be, yeah,
03:07to have, because, you know, I've been in the US and Canada for 10 years and to come home and
03:12have this as my first film, as my homecoming film. I was like, it was, yeah, divine.
03:18I love that you say that. I felt more like a colonialist who came into it to get what she
03:23wanted.
03:23Yeah.
03:25And leave happy if she could. You know, and I love it.
03:29Your character was useless.
03:29But that's really what my character was to do. She's there. The function is to shine, you know, to allow
03:36our beautiful lead character, Aaron Fork, the detective Aaron Fork, through the three films, ultimately, to see each side and
03:46to be able to work out how he can manage both sides of his identity and his essence,
03:52how they can marry up being a police detective and being a human being.
03:58Yeah. I think that's a big theme, too, across the, you know, yours and Eric's characters and then the women.
04:06You've got the corporate structure and then you've got the police structure. They're both corrupt. They're both dysfunctional.
04:11And you've got, you know, these human beings, the five women out in the forest. And that's when that structure
04:19collapses, you see a really ugly side of them because they've been, you know, relating to each other in this
04:26hierarchical way.
04:27And then with your character, it's, I love the ending that you have with Eric. It's, you just turn, I
04:33won't give it away.
04:34Don't give it away.
04:35You, you turn.
04:36We get powered.
04:37Something.
04:38Amazing. Well, that's all the time. But thanks so much for, for chatting with me. It's fantastic to, to watch
04:43the film and to, to hear your perspectives on it.
04:45Thank you so much.
04:51Nature holds us all to account.
