00:09Born from the thigh, twice born, I am called.
00:14These nymphs that follow, be not ye appalled.
00:18Come, and find yourself enthralled.
00:21Oh, these nymphs, sublime.
00:25Not me, just my wine.
00:28In wine, there is wildness.
00:32In wine, there is madness.
00:35In wine, there is love.
00:38So drink, ye below.
00:44Dionysus, the Olympian god of wine, the god of vegetation and fertility, the god of pleasure,
00:51festivity, merriment, and wild frenzy.
00:55He who had a dual nature, who brought joy and divine ecstasy on one hand, or wild and
01:03blinding rage on the other hand.
01:05The giver of wine, the master of the arts of viticulture.
01:11Dionysus, was the son of Zeus, and the mortal princess of Thebes, Semele.
01:16When the jealous queen of the gods, Hera, learned, that the mortal princess, was carrying Zeus'
01:22child, she visited Semele, in disguise, and convinced her, to see who her lover, really
01:28was, if he was, if he was good looking, or ugly, if he was really a god, or a monster.
01:34Semele, did as she was told, unaware, of what was about to befall her.
01:39Thus, when the oath-bound Zeus, appeared before her, in his full glory, she was consumed, by
01:46the heat of his lightning bolts.
01:48Zeus rescued their unborn child, from her body, and stitched him up, in his own thigh, till
01:55the baby was born.
01:57However, Hera, quickly found out, that baby Dionysus, was still alive, and called upon
02:03the titans, to kill him.
02:05The titans, indeed, ripped him to pieces.
02:08But the titanus, Rhea, found his pieces, reassembled him, and brought him back to life.
02:15Zeus, then, conferred immortality, on the little god, and gave him to the mountain nymphs, to
02:21be raised, away from the eyes of Hera.
02:24Dionysus, grew up to become, an effeminate, attractive, youthful god, always carrying a
02:30pinecone-tipped staff, a drinking cup, and a crown of ivy.
02:35He is usually accompanied, by a troop of satyrs, and wild female devotees, called, the Myonads.
02:43Stories tell, that he was also, one, of the very few deities, who were able to bring a
02:48dead person, back from the underworld realm of Hades.
02:53Dionysus, would later wander the world, spreading his worship, and temples, becoming one, of the
02:59most loved gods, among men.
