00:02An early morning dive gone horribly wrong.
00:06Police say three friends were spearfishing off Coles Point near Adventure Bay on Bruni Island
00:12when one of them was bitten by a shark.
00:15He has managed to make his way back to the beach
00:17where he and his party were able to raise the emergency services to attend.
00:23The man was then flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
00:26He sustained a laceration to his left forearm.
00:30He's stable and in the Royal Hobart Hospital was obviously undergoing treatment.
00:35Police believe the creature was a two-metre long broad-nosed seven-gill shark,
00:40a patrol boat unable to locate it despite a multi-hour search.
00:45Greg Hayes and his family were holidaying nearby.
00:48We were just having breakfast talking about going for a bit of a cold plunge
00:51and then on Facebook we saw there had been someone bitten by a shark
00:55so we decided it wasn't a great idea.
00:57But the bite won't stop him getting into the water.
01:00It's a very low chance of getting bitten.
01:02We've swum our whole lives and we don't really worry about it.
01:05Shark attacks are particularly rare in Tasmania.
01:08One expert says there have only been 15 verifiable incidents since European colonisation.
01:15The Bruni Island locals we spoke to couldn't even remember the last attack this far south.
01:21It's probably been many years since there's been a shark attack.
01:25Certainly there are a lot of sightings.
01:27People are encouraged to report any further shark sightings to police.
