00:05Meet Dej and Antoine. They're a disabled couple who have been together for a few years and have
00:10just had their first baby, a pretty typical milestone for most couples. But for these two,
00:15the baby news has led to some controversy.
00:17Get over it. Get over it. I know y'all not gonna listen, but get over it. Like, we had
00:24a baby.
00:25Dej and Antoine both have a condition called osteogenesis imperfecta, otherwise known as
00:30brittle bone disease. This means their bones are very fragile and can break easily. Antoine's
00:34condition is more severe out of the two. Their baby girl, Atara, has been in the NICU for a year
00:39since she was born, 29 weeks premature. Users have taken to the comments to voice their opinions,
00:47some going as far as to call the couple selfish and questioning how Dej and Antoine will be able
00:51to look after their baby. Although there's speculation, neither Dej or Antoine have confirmed
01:07whether their daughter has the same condition as them. They've also faced backlash for posting a
01:11five-minute-long diaper change video, with users sharing concerns about how long it takes Dej to
01:16change the baby, and calling out Antoine for not helping. But many users have jumped to their
01:30defense. When you start controlling the reproductive rights of one group of people, where does that
01:35stop? And should anybody have that much control over the bodily autonomy of two adults? Others have
01:41argued that calls for severely disabled couples like Dej and Antoine to not have children is a
01:46eugenics debate. One user said, this conversation is very much eugenics, and it's disgusting how able-bodied
01:53people are discussing the reproductive rights of disabled people. Regardless, Dej and Antoine are
01:58continuing to share their journey as new parents, sharing how happy they are as a family.
