00:18What happens when your car cannot handle the 20% ethanol blended fuel?
00:24We've seen reels and videos galore about how engines are stalling, about how mileage is dropping.
00:33And now a Chhattisgarh consumer court has taken judicial notice of the damage caused to a car because the engine
00:43is not E-20 petrol compatible.
00:49This case is arising out of a consumer complaint by a Raipur-based doctor who bought a new car from
00:57Maruti Suzuki in June 2024.
00:59By November, his car had gone back to the dealership for the servicing multiple times because the engine kept stalling
01:09repeatedly.
01:10Then it was found that the engine was stalling because of white deposits that were coming from the fuel that
01:18was being put in this car.
01:19The consumer court has given a clear ruling that the car manufacturer was aware that fuel in the country had
01:27at least 10% ethanol by 2023.
01:31And by 2026, the E-20, that is 20% ethanol blend was being rolled out across the country.
01:38And still they sold a car which was not ethanol fuel compatible.
01:44And that is why the consumer forum has now said that Maruti Suzuki has to give this doctor a brand
01:51new car which is E-20 compatible so that it does not keep getting damaged again and again.
02:00But this case, apart from pointing out the car manufacturer's liability to sell a car that is compatible with the
02:09fuel that is available in the market.
02:11But at the same time, it also points out a very serious question that car owners have been asking for
02:18the last several months.
02:20What happens to the cars which have been bought in the last two to three years with this E-20
02:25rollout clearly damaging the engines of the vehicle, damaging the fuel lines?
02:32The BJP has, in fact, filed FIRs against some influencers who criticised Transport Minister Gadkari over this E-20 blend
02:41and has ordered takedown of the videos criticising and, in fact, personally commenting on Gadkari.
02:50But what happens to those who bought the cars before 2024? There is no answer.
