00:04On the programme today, we've got two stories in focus.
00:07One that impacts almost every person who has a petrol vehicle in the country.
00:12We've been debating about ethanol blend petrol, E20, for a while now
00:18and today, for the first time in the country, a court case has emerged
00:22that has come in the favour of the car owner.
00:25Now, a consumer caught in Raipur listening to a case of a petitioner
00:31of a complainant who bought a new Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid car
00:37which refused to work.
00:39His allegation was that the engine had been destroyed because of E20.
00:44The company refused to give him damages.
00:46He went to the court and the court has now asked Maruti to compensate,
00:51give him a new car or refund the entire amount he paid,
00:57not the current value of the car.
00:59It's a huge case that has now been dragged
01:02and perhaps one that opens up a way for several others.
01:07That's story number one.
01:09Story number two, we have not left the story of quota just yet.
01:14The quota debts of mothers, the overall Rajasthan number was 19.
01:22Yesterday, we told you about nine of them were undergoing dialysis
01:25for the past several months.
01:28And we got news now that they are writing and asking for euthanasia.
01:35They have written in to the president of the country.
01:39Five of them have now written in to the president of the country
01:43saying that we'd rather die
01:46than just get on and stay with dialysis every day.
01:50What about them?
01:52What's their future like?
01:53We spoke to both the people involved.
01:55We spoke to those, the complainant in the E20 case as well.

02:06Raipur Consumer Court has now directed Maruti Suzuki
02:10to replace a vehicle after ruling that it was the E20 compatible
02:14despite being sold after the ethanol blending rollout.
02:18The company has 45 days now to provide a new E20 compatible vehicle
02:23to the complainant or refund the full cost.
02:29An IIT Kanpur study has dismissed viral claims that E20 fuel damages engines.
02:34The study found no evidence of engine damage
02:38or any significant impact on vehicle mileage
02:41with experts now urging people not to spread misinformation.
02:46So there are stories emerging from all angles on this.

06:08then there is one thing you have googled most,
06:11talked about most,
06:13sent on your WhatsApp groups
06:15and chatted about with your friends
06:16for weeks now, if not months,
06:19and it is the ethanol mix in petrol, the E20.
06:24Every petrol owner is sceptical
06:26and the constant confusion of articles,
06:30claims, counterclaims,
06:31cases on influencers,
06:33statements by the politicians,
06:35none of that is helping.
06:36But today there is something
06:38that actually helps.
06:40Something big happened today.
06:42India's first ethanol-based car damage case
06:46reached a consumer court
06:47and the verdict has come out
06:50in the favour of the consumer.
06:53The car in question
06:55is Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara Hybrid.
07:00Now, before we get into this,
07:01let me state one fact out clearly
07:04and let's be very clear about it.
07:07This case is not about a few things
07:11and nobody is here arguing that E20 doesn't make sense.
07:15We all understand that cutting crude oil imports,
07:18backing India's ethanol economy,
07:20lowering the emissions,
07:21the case is settled on policy.
07:24The problem that we have at the moment
07:26is entirely something else.
07:29It's not about whether ethanol should be mixed,
07:31it's about why the rush.
07:35The complainant, let's come to him.
07:37His name is Dr. Premraj Depta.
07:39He's from Raipur.
07:41Let's understand the timeline on this.
07:43He bought a Grand Vitara Hybrid,
07:46the Zeta Plus,
07:47on the 3rd of June, we are told, 2024.
07:51The showroom told him
07:53that it was manufactured in December of 23.
07:56He later found out
07:57that it was actually January of the previous year.
08:02Five months in,
08:04after he bought the car,
08:05the car stopped on the road suddenly.
08:08The dashboard flashed
08:09that it was engine fault.
08:11The workshop,
08:12as they always do,
08:13they drained the tank.
08:15They took out all the petrol
08:16and what did they find inside?
08:18Crystal deposits at the bottom.
08:21The workshop guy told him,
08:23it's the fuel.
08:25He wrote to the petrol pump directly.
08:28They wrote back saying,
08:29the fuel was fine.
08:30It is according to government compliance.
08:33The petrol company said,
08:35the car is at fault.
08:36The cycle repeated itself
08:38two, three times
08:39as it is always in this country.
08:42Again, the tank was cleaned.
08:44Car again broke down.
08:45Again, it was, you know,
08:47emptied.
08:48And again, they found some crystals.
08:50When it happened the third time,
08:53what he found inside the car this time
08:55was not just some crystals.
08:57There was some curd-like material
08:59as he described in his complaint.
09:02That's when he stopped thinking about the fuel.
09:06He went to the company.
09:08He wrote mail after mail to Maruti.
09:12And till finally,
09:13a team from Delhi flew in,
09:15in the January of 25,
09:18and he handed the car over to them.
09:22By March in 29,
09:24he refused it for the final time
09:26and said,
09:28imagine that,
09:28from 25 to 29,
09:30the poor guy is fighting his case
09:32constantly,
09:33going from court,
09:34going to companies,
09:36going to petrol pump.
09:38Finally, he said,
09:39I've had enough.
09:39I am going to the consumer court.
09:43Now, in his own words,
09:45this man I spoke with
09:46and I'll play out that interview for you
09:48in some time,
09:49he says he's not an expert.
09:50He can't talk about other cases.
09:52He's just talking about his own car.
09:57He's saying he's not certain
09:59and he was kept in dark
10:00by the Maruti company itself
10:03that his car was not E20 compatible.
10:05He did not know that.
10:09But here's what the court
10:11actually zeroed in on
10:12and what made the case go in his favour.
10:16Not whether E20 is safe in general,
10:19whether Maruti sold him a car
10:21that wasn't built for E20.
10:26Then what did happen?
10:28The deficiency in service.
10:30The unfair trade practice
10:32is what has come under question.
10:34And this is the sentence
10:36that matters most in the entire order.
10:38The court said
10:39that E20 has now become
10:41the standard fuel
10:43at all petrol pumps.
10:46So a consumer court
10:47cannot be expected to simply avoid it
10:50when there is no alternative available.
10:52Now, understand that clearly.
10:56And try to really get into the detail.
11:00Even if someone has an E20
11:03non-compatible car today,
11:06where do they go for petrol?
11:09That's the question.
11:10That is the real story here.
11:13Not whether ethanol blending is good for policy.
11:15It's that India moved from an entire petrol supply
11:19to E20 faster than manufacturers
11:21even disclosed which engine
11:23could actually handle it.
11:24And faster than the market
11:26gave any way out to opt out.
11:29Dr. Dipta
11:30didn't
11:31just get to choose.
11:32He did not have a choice.
11:34He just found out the hard way.
11:37Every time his car broke down,
11:38he figured out what the issue was.
11:40Nobody gave him a warning.
11:42But let's get back to the order for a minute.
11:45You know, Maruti, the dealer,
11:47the court says he must replace the car
11:50with a new E20-compatible Grand Vitara
11:53in the next 45 days.
11:55Or refund the over 20 lakh rupees
11:58plus the compensation for mental agony
12:01plus litigation cost plus interest
12:03if they missed the deadline.
12:06It's a very clear order.
12:10But scale that up a little bit.
12:12Dr. Dipta, the complainant here,
12:14is one case that made it to the court.
12:16There are lakhs of vehicles on the road today right now
12:19facing just the same.
12:22Manufactured before the engines were made E20 ready,
12:25running on pumps that no longer offer anything else.
12:29Every one of them is now sitting exactly where he was.
12:33Not because they chose badly.
12:35Because they simply did not know.
12:37Nobody gave them a warning.
12:40That's the cost that we are really questioning today.
12:44But before I tell you more about what happened in this car,
12:47listen in to his lawyer.
12:50What he says the court really nailed down the verdict on.
12:56The court has granted the application and thought about it.
13:01After thinking about it, we found out that
13:04there are 20% of ethanol, which is in the petrol,
13:07the car is not able to run away from this car.
13:09There is a problem.
13:10But when the company sold the car,
13:13it didn't tell us how much of ethanol will run from it or not.
13:17The car is given, and then the car is closed.
13:20The court also found that it was 2000-13 car.
13:22It was 17 months later, we have given the car.
13:25So this was also a problem.
13:27Then the court has taken our documents and documents,
13:32and they decided that they will give the car,
13:37and if they don't give the car,
13:38the car will give the car.

34:08so then on engine running it runs on different rpms and loads so to simulate that condition so
34:16this is the dynamometer which loads the engine or as we can say that it stops the engine try to
34:22stop
34:22the engine and depending upon the how much stopping power is applied. External factors that affects the
34:27performance of the car that has been created here artificially and you are monitoring the whole
34:31system here. Amid an ongoing controversy regarding the usage of E20 petrol nationwide IIT Kanpur
34:37studies shows after extensive research that E20 petrol has no effect on fuel efficiency and no effect
34:45on the damages and engines of even older cars. Well right now I'm standing inside IIT Kanpur campus
34:51in the laboratory where this whole research and practical happened. Well you can have a look there
34:57there are some big machines which are used to make an atmosphere identical of a car external factors
35:03are being monitored to the form of machines after which which has come to a conclusion that no effect
35:10of E20 petrol is on the cars on its fuel efficiency and on the engines. Well this is a BS6
35:17engine which is
35:18placed here which is normally used in cars this is connected to a fuel tank from where E20 petrol is
35:25poured in this
35:25very particular engine and after that through the help of the external factors machines each and every
35:32minute factor is monitored here.
35:36All right moving on from celebration of life to the desperate fight for survival 12 women fell
35:41critically ill after childbirth at the government hospital in Kota. We've been bringing you these stories
35:45every day now for the past several weeks. Five dead, two were discharged, five are still battling for a kidney
35:51failure.
35:52Nearly 70 days after undergoing the cesarean deliveries these five new mothers remain on dialysis
35:58every day. And now after 48 hour ultimatum to the administration brought no assurance they have
36:04refused to take the dialysis. Demanding that you either give us a kidney transplant or give us the
36:11permission to die. Permission for euthanasia. That's how desperate the situation is.
36:17The women and their families allege that hospital negligence and the use of alleged spurious medicines
36:22led to this condition. The hospital of course has denied all these charges saying that women are
36:27medically stable. Dialysis remains essential and it is too early to decide on kidney transplant. But
36:32what exactly is happening? These are desperate poor women. The same hospital which took away the
36:37life of so many others has put these at risk as well. And now they are saying we'd rather die
36:42die. And take dialysis every day.
36:56Five women suffered severe kidney damage after a cesarean operation at a government hospital in
37:04Kota Rajasthan in May. For nearly 70 days these new mothers have fought just to stay alive. Today they
37:16say they no longer want treatment. After a 48 hour ultimatum to the administration brought no assurances
37:26to stay alive. They are now refusing dialysis.
37:41This is the case.

44:10The CBI made some explosive claims alleging that the NTA insider leaked chemistry questions well before the exam
44:18It is a detailed report that has been submitted which talks about how a Latour Coaching Centre owner
44:23had about 5 lakh rupees that were given in as bribe to an NTA official part of the paper setting
44:30panel
44:30and he ended up disclosing 111 of the 132 papers
44:36He's actually got it in hand written
44:37Some 36 images have also been taken out of that and circulated moreover
44:42So a clear first-hand leak from the NTA person has been established
44:48Let's understand what this will mean for NTA

45:34Now what they have said is that they seized multiple devices, mobile from several accused
45:40If we talk about this particular accused
45:41What the CBI found after the analysis of the phones were certain images
45:45In those images were handwritten questions
45:48A total of 132 handwritten questions in the handwriting of the said accused
45:53When they analysed it further
45:54What they found was 111 questions out of those 132
45:58Matched with the questions in the NTA master paper set
46:03It has also been claimed that this accused gathered these questions from other co-accused
46:10Paid a sum of 5 lakh for it
46:12One of the persons who he got these questions, chemistry questions from
46:16Was somebody who was also on the NTA paper panel
46:20And was also a co-accused in this particular case
46:23These questions were then distributed to his own son
46:26And also the other students who came to study at his coaching institute
46:31So the CBI basically said that examination fraud was conducted
46:34In a very large scale, there was conspiracy
46:36And that's exactly what the CBI is trying to probe right now
