00:02Enjoying the precious moments of a new life.
00:05Hello.
00:06But it wasn't always this easy for Alison,
00:08enduring the pain and trauma of losing her first baby,
00:11Sadie Rose, at 29 weeks.
00:14I had the heart monitoring every four hours
00:18and one lot of four hour obs, she was absolutely fine.
00:22The next, she was gone.
00:24After such an unimaginable loss,
00:26the thought of being pregnant again proved overwhelming.
00:29With Sadie, I was hit by a freight train,
00:32never saw it coming, didn't have time to think at all.
00:35But with Austin, you know that there's a freight train out there
00:39and you know that it can hit you at any time without warning
00:43and basically you're bracing for impact the entire pregnancy
00:47and that feeling is absolutely sickening.
00:50Professor Scott White and the team at King Edward Memorial Hospital
00:53helped Alison through the second pregnancy,
00:56scanning her nearly 100 times.
00:59Her pregnancy was just so traumatising through it
01:02and she was so terrified and she told me a beautiful story
01:05about the struggles in her subsequent pregnancy
01:07and how anxious she was and how she just wanted to hear that heartbeat.
01:11Historically, services to help mums have been ad hoc
01:14but now Professor White is setting up a dedicated support clinic
01:18for families who've endured stillbirth or pregnancy loss,
01:21focusing on continuity of care,
01:24ensuring all providers are aware of past pregnancies.
01:28Providing good quality care to someone with a history of loss
01:30is just a nice thing to do, right?
01:32But it's also clinically important.
01:34We know that chronic anxiety increases the risk
01:37of pregnancy complications, particularly preterm birth.
01:39It meant that I knew that I was getting the care that my baby needed.
01:45Now a patient advocate, Alison is helping shape the support on offer.
01:49It's hoped the new clinic will help reduce trauma for families into the future.
01:54Yeah.
01:55Yeah.
01:56Yeah.
01:56So please give her a kiss the first one.
01:58Alright.
01:58Where are we going that way with the 박票?
02:01Andholderia Draw.
