Justice Amy Coney Barrett described how threats against her have affected not only her life, but also her children. She recalled being sent home with a bulletproof vest and later becoming the target of a swatting incident that brought police officers to her home.

In this video, I react to her testimony and discuss the human cost of the hostility now surrounding judges and public officials. Whatever someone thinks about Barrett’s decisions, no family should have to live in fear because of political disagreements.

I also examine the criticism Barrett has received when her rulings have disappointed some conservatives. Should a justice be expected to support the president who appointed her, or should every case be decided independently according to the law?

This video raises questions about political pressure, judicial independence and the growing tendency to treat every Supreme Court decision as a victory for one party and a betrayal of another. It is commentary—not an accusation against any individual or political party. Available reporting has not established that Republicans, Democrats or any particular group were responsible for the threats Barrett described.

Do you believe Supreme Court justices can still rule without fear or political pressure? Share your opinion respectfully in the comments.
