00:00First of all, let me make the point that the investigation into the shooting in Biddeford, Maine, has not yet
00:09been completed.
00:11The entire Maine delegation has asked for a thorough, full, and impartial investigation to be conducted by the independent office
00:24of the Inspector General.
00:26Senator King and I have also written to the Acting Attorney General to ask that the state government also be
00:38involved in the investigation.
00:41In light of all the critical questions that have been raised, however, I believe that the DHS position of having
00:54a halt in these traffic stops until we know more answers is the right way to go.
01:06We've had two shootings in a week's time in both Biddeford, Maine, and Houston, in which serious questions have been
01:16raised.
01:17It can be that in certain emergency situations that these traffic stops are warranted, but to have them routinely done
01:30when we have two recent shootings that raise very serious questions, to me calls for a halt in that approach
01:43for now.
