00:00good luck now still to come on good morning britain a dramatic goodbye could be coming to
00:05the cobbles we're going to ask for nation street star claire sweeney what is in store for her
00:10character cassie and what's she doing next is it really goodbye you never know in soap land it's
00:16never really good either exactly that's almost got to come you're watching good morning britain do you
00:35stay with us
00:36coroner she's been star of their screening she's saying farewell to her friends from weatherfield
00:41after three years on the street she's decided to swap the small screen for the stage she's um
00:48listen to this she's going on tour as miss hannigan in annie actually started this week in cardiff
00:55well before that let's take a look at some of her final moments on the cobbles
01:01someone's holding something over me
01:06right well based on my own experience my advice whatever you've done you tell steve
01:13i'll do that i'll never be able to forgive you but if you can't you're delaying the inevitable
01:20if you can you might as well get started so ripping off the plaster is the only way
01:27i'll get you that coffee kid
01:31and claire joins us now in the studio what's it like knowing you're leaving do you know i've just got
01:38a
01:38little pang of emotion then because i shared a dressing room with jane and sue devaney we had the
01:44loveliest stress room and just seeing her on the screen then i miss my friends because you've already
01:49gone haven't you i know you announced you were leaving in january and i told them though last october
01:57i told them you wanted to go so yeah well i basically um yeah i gave six months notice because
02:04i knew i
02:04one i've always wanted to play hannigan honestly and this was the rule you would give up my
02:10relationship for but for uh 15 years ago my friend uh made me a collage of all my life photographs
02:17and
02:18he knew my dream role p pricey knew my dream role was hannigan and he superimposed my body sorry my
02:24face
02:24on paula grady's body was paula grady playing yeah yeah and it's in my toilet so i've sat looking at
02:30myself as hannigan on the toilet for 15 years manifesting it so what this is a massive poster
02:36is it it's in a big frame yeah and your face on paula grady's body and you were friends with
02:43paul
02:43weren't you yeah yeah yeah i love paul yeah so it's a dream role and cori were wonderful they gave
02:50me the
02:50most fantastic exit storyline it couldn't have been better really it's lovely so can you give us an
02:56insight into what that is yes i can say it's explosive it's dramatic oh my goodness it's um
03:02it's quite sad as well in parts as well um i think there's a possibly potentially a redemption arc as
03:12well for cassie yes because she's been a controversial character hasn't she yeah uh and i've been so lucky
03:17you know the people i've been working with my very first seeing a 14 page two-hander with dame maureen
03:22litman an absolute gift working with alan halsell you know uh kate ford cy greg son of each bill roach
03:30as well you know great storyline with bill roach but it's but it's not totally fine is it she doesn't
03:34fall in the canal i i don't die so who knows who knows gosh gosh you don't know that you
03:43die
03:43when you said before we were on camera you went well you don't know you could switch it on
03:50the thing is you're gonna want because you're out of it now i swear writers can do anything they like
03:55they can i know so you've put your character's life in their hands exactly and they could they could say
04:03oh you know it was such a shame wasn't it what happened to cassie and then what would you think
04:09if
04:10you watched and that happened well i don't know i mean you just kind of you know accept it haven't
04:16you but you want to keep the door open presumably because i love corrie yeah i really really love
04:21corrie and i miss everyone there i said then i got a little pine when i saw jane i i
04:27was one of the
04:28happiest jobs i've ever done what's it like for you professionally is it like is it like a dress or
04:33a
04:33suit of clothes where you take it off and bring the wardrobe and you just move on or is there
04:38a part of
04:39you which will always you know have a bit of that character going yeah i mean there are elements like
04:46i was on screen last week i had to play uh cassie very drunk well every night i play hannigan
04:52drunk
04:53you know so i'm playing a drunken alcoholic cougar every night and that means do you drink
05:01not really no i'm not a good drinker i used to be able to drink but not anymore there's an
05:05age in
05:05stage isn't there yeah hang on if you're on tour isn't the whole point to go around the country
05:11hey listen i was in the pub do you know what was so exciting the other night sat in the
05:15pub
05:15with the whole cast watching the footy and that was because normally be a home of my own watching
05:20it um and a few of them got me wines and i just managed one of them oh god this
05:26isn't me in the old
05:27days i would have been you know but also i think what the night before working it's a nightmare
05:33drinking yeah i can't do it i think it's the thing that happens um near menopause as well i just
05:38can't
05:39tolerate it yeah what's your daytime strategy when you're on tour what do you do do you get up late
05:43you have room service you go shopping
05:45room service he's talking about his experience on tour oh yeah oh you did the street did you do
05:52the street i loved it did you love it yeah fabulous no i don't get room service um do you
06:00know what i'm
06:01loving about um annie it's the structure six o'clock every night we're on stage we're warming up we're
06:07stretching we're exercising i've got all my vitamins lined up and i've got into a real healthy routine and
06:13i'm loving it wow that doesn't sound like the stripy tour no not not from my memory of it
06:21leslie joseph oh i love leslie now leslie's played she was clubbing every night
06:26leslie joseph played hannigan and she has played that and she was wonderful she's a good mate leslie
06:32she's fabulous oh she's absolutely brilliant but if you think of the people who played this role before
06:36you it's an amazing group of people it is isn't it you know amira sayal miranda hart paulo grady
06:42craig gravel hall would love war it's been a and carol burnett for me was the ultimate you know
06:47yeah in the film yeah well fantastic it's is there a particular song you're you're excited about
06:53singing i mean everyone knows the famous song well we've got the girls but my favorite is easy street
06:58can you can you give us a little dance for a day is this street there's lots of shimmy and
07:03mick winston our choreography choreographer has done the most wonderful routine for it
07:08so there's dancing as well as christian and amber yeah they are fantastic we're all the very best
07:13i don't know how you're gonna cope with wednesday night i mean you're in card of wednesday night
07:16of course it's wales they're not in the world cup you're an england fan shows
07:21i come out the stage door um saturday and i was like why are you all here why aren't you
07:26watching the
07:27footy forgetting the game's at eight on wednesday night this wednesday i'm gonna do little phone in the
07:38dressing room yeah you'll be able to just whisper in people's ears they're wondering what's happening
07:43yeah sorry cardiff this week next week milton keen's and then blackpool which i'm looking forward
07:48to and if it goes to extra time you've probably had your curtain call and you can then go watch

08:14blessed with the most wonderful storyline and i would never presume that the door's open oh i think
