00:00Finally, the very first issue of the Dynamite Ben 10 comic is here, and I know Omnicraft is late for
00:05this explanation, but here we go.
00:08The comic opens with Vilgax standing aboard his massive battleship, staring into deep space.
00:13He declares that the time has finally come. The time to conquer the entire universe.
00:19Right away, this version of Vilgax is introduced as a true cosmic conqueror, traveling from planet to planet and destroying
00:26anyone who dares stand in his way.
00:28We also get our first look inside his warship, where bio-droids are busy working while Vilgax confidently watches over
00:36everything.
00:37Then he asks himself an interesting question. Is there anything in the universe powerful enough to challenge me?
00:43He answers it himself.
00:45Recently, he's learned about one weapon capable of threatening him, and very soon, it will belong to him.
00:51Of course, he's talking about the Omnitrix. The comic immediately cuts to the Omnitrix pod traveling through space.
00:58This tells us that Vilgax knows the Omnitrix exists, but unlike the classic series, he has no idea where it
01:05is or who it's heading to.
01:06If he did, he would have attacked Xylene's ship immediately.
01:10Instead, we jump straight to Earth, where Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max are already camping.
01:16Just like in the original series.
01:18One major difference is that we never see Ben getting bullied at school.
01:22Maybe that'll come later when Cash and JT are introduced.
01:26Overall, I think Dynamite's first Ben 10 issue is a really strong start.
01:30It keeps the core feeling of the classic series while modernizing the characters and setting.
01:35Ben feels more flawed.
01:37Gwen's love for science replaces her dependence on technology.
01:40Grandpa Max is more mysterious than ever.
01:43And Vilgax is introduced as a terrifying universal conqueror.
01:47The biggest highlight for me has to be the Omnitrix transformations.
01:51They're far more intense and almost horror-like, making the device feel powerful, but also dangerous.
01:58Choosing four arms as Ben's first alien instead of heat blast is another bold change that actually works surprisingly well.
02:04As a first issue, this comic does exactly what it needed to do.
02:09Introduce the world, establish the characters, and leave readers excited for what's coming next.
