00:00you got to make the trip to the Black Hills to experience the 86th annual Sturges motorcycle
00:04rally. You know, the reason I never got out there is because my kids were always too young and you
00:07gave me all kinds of excuses. I got to have a haircut on that Wednesday and I promised my wife
00:13that I would help her host a Tupperware party. All right, enough about that.
00:18Rock, metal, frog, and everything in between. Welcome to this episode of Talkin' Rock with
00:25Meltdown. Don't forget to follow the audio-only Talkin' Rock podcast on all podcast platforms.
00:30And now, it's time for today's conversation. Here's Meltdown.
00:35Jesse James Dupree. Jesse, it's been a long time. You wanted me to come to Sturgis and now I'm finally
00:40on the way. We'll be there coming up in the second week of August. Looking forward to it. And, you
00:46know, I was just looking through the bands that are playing, of course, Sammy Hagar, Rob Zombie,
00:50whatever. But there is a little bit of Detroit flair, you know. Yeah, Detroit flair? Yeah,
00:57Insane Clown Posse. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They played with us, you know, times in the past
01:03and they, believe it or not, people scratch their head, but it goes over incredible out there. I
01:08mean, Sturgis is just, I mean, we've done Little John. We've done Insane Clown Posse. We've done
01:13Rob Zombie. We've done, and we got Rob again this year. Of course, we got Sammy Hagar this year,
01:18Miranda Lambert. Of course, Jackal playing on the Thursday night, giving away the rolling
01:23Sturgis, Harley Davidson motorcycle. But it's so rewarding to finally, after all these years
01:30of begging and pleading and assuring you that you'll be okay and having to sweet talk your
01:39wife into letting you come out. And it's just a lot. I've had to damn sign notarized papers that
01:46that will return you in one or two pieces. And I mean, it's just, but we finally got meltdown
01:52coming to the Black Hills. Yes, that's right. I can hardly wait. You know, you sent me that video
01:57the other day of the layout of the full throttle saloon. And I mean, it is massive. How many people
02:02you put in at a concert there? All right. I mean, we can hold probably 15, 20,000 people
02:07and then some, I mean, actually to the left side of where the stage is. I mean, it goes,
02:12I mean, we got, it goes one more mile back. So, you know, I mean, they're we're out on that
02:19prairie. So, I mean, we, we've got the ability to throw the damnedest and we do throw the damnedest
02:24party you've ever seen. The full throttle saloon, Pappy Hoyle campground. And, you know, there's
02:29all kind of riding out there. So you can, if you do ride, you can go to Mount Rushmore,
02:34Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Devil's Tower, the Badlands, Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway. I mean,
02:40there's just, there's, there's more things than you will even remotely start to get to this year.
02:47You will have to come back five years straight before you can even touch on the, every single
02:53bit of the most incredible riding in God's United States of America. But if you don't ride,
03:00you don't have to leave the property. We have 600 acres. We have, you know,
03:041500 RV sites. We have, we have an all you can eat breakfast and dinner buffet, an Olympic size
03:10swimming pool. Harley put a big activation there. We can get free haircuts, Harley Davidson haircuts,
03:15free pinstriping, free demo rides, free tattoos. I mean, anything you want right there on the property.
03:22And then of course you, you know, stagger into the full throttle saloon. It's the world's,
03:27you know, South Dakota's largest stage. I mean, it's, it's a tribute to what made America great.
03:32When you walk into this place meltdown, your jaw is going to be on the floor. I'm telling you,
03:37you don't even know what you're about to witness. I mean, you saw some of that video,
03:40but it doesn't do it justice. When you walk into the full throttle, there's these huge industrial
03:47revolution, dinosaur factory machines, milling machines, and all just incredible turn of the
03:54century. What made America great. And the bars are built into these machines and the bars are all
04:00hand welded. Every little sprocket and gear is all hand welded and, and just unbelievable. And, uh,
04:06uh, just, uh, the walls are covered in over a million dollars worth of vintage motorcycle sticking
04:12out. And, and there's one wall's got a full blown vintage tractor trailer rig coming out of it. And
04:16there's, there's, you walk out into this huge canopy. That's a football field long. That's just
04:21kind of outdoors, but with this huge canopy over and there's bars with moonshine trucks up behind
04:26the bars in the middle of them. And, and there's one bar that's got this huge sphere. So you're sitting
04:31having a drink and there's people riding motorcycles upside down in that sphere. I mean,
04:35it's beyond Thunderdome crazy. So whether you ride a motorcycle or not,
04:40you got to make the trip to the black Hills to experience the 86th annual Sturges motorcycle
04:45rally. Yeah. It's something for everybody, for sure. You know, the reason I never got out there
04:48is because my kids were always too young and I was always taking them on vacation throughout the
04:52summertime, but now, uh, my son's just coming back from a cruise. My daughter's going on a cruise,
04:56so they're taking their own vacation. So now it's dad's turn. Yeah. You gave me all kinds of
05:01excuses. I got to have a haircut on that Wednesday and, uh, Oh yeah. Uh, I'd promise my wife that
05:07I
05:07would help her host a Tupperware party. All right. Enough about that. I mean, I mean, that's, uh,
05:13that's, um, you know, that's the excuses I've been getting, but you ran out of excuses. So we
05:18finally, I called your wife, I called your barber, I called your proctologist. I did. I did have to make
05:24a deal with a proctologist that we would take care of your proctology on the property in Sturgis. So
05:30I've got my glove. If you don't mind, I'm going to use a welding glove and we're going to get
05:37you
05:37through that. But no, it's going to be, I'm telling you, man, we're so excited about having
05:40you. And, um, I mean, you've, you've never ever had the most incredible riding that you're going to
05:47have and people watching and just seriously. And I'll also redundantly share the warning that once
05:55you come out this first year, you'll never miss another one. All right. All right. Fair enough.
05:59Hey, what about, what about, what about big daddy? Know it all there real damn letting you the radio
06:04station telling you that you could come. I mean, that was a big deal. Yeah, no doubt. No. Hey,
06:10look, I'm, I'm, I'm looking forward to this. I can hardly wait. You know, you know me,
06:13it's like, get me on an open road. And that's where I, that's where I love to be. Hey, so,
06:17um,
06:18uh, I I've talked to you about this before, kind of, uh, just, you know, with one-on-one,
06:21but tell everybody how you got hooked up with Harley Davidson and what exactly you do with the
06:25Harley Davidson brand. Well, yeah, I mean, well, first of all, I grew up, you know, my dad had a,
06:29uh, Harley in the carport. We couldn't afford a garage or a basement, you know, he had just an open
06:34carport, but, uh, he, his Harley was there my whole life and it was always a big deal, you know,
06:39for him to take us for rides when we were kids and everything. And so I've always, you know,
06:43I've always measured, you know, like the day I bought my first Harley Davidson, I felt in a lot
06:47of ways, I became my own man. I mean, it's a, you know, it's just a rite of, rite of
06:51passage.
06:51Right. And there's, there's something, I mean, you said it while you just said it two seconds ago,
06:56you know, you experienced that first taste of freedom and, you know, in getting on a motorcycle
07:03and, uh, and hitting the open road. And there's something that, especially in this day and time
07:09with these cell phones being an appendage and your computer being an appendage. And there's
07:16something about that liberating moment when you throw your leg over that motorcycle, that Harley
07:21Davidson and you hit the road and everything, your whole perspective on the world changes. And, and
07:28so I live it. I love it. I'm passionate about it. I've always been an avid rider and, uh, and
07:33the
07:33Harley Davidson motor company just reached out and said, Hey, you know, you're all over the country.
07:38You're doing all these fun things. We, you know, let's, let's put it together. So we started
07:44doing these rolling campaigns. So we are right now there's a campaign going on called rolling
07:48Sturgis and you can go into your local Harley Davidson dealership. And we have 412 dealerships,
07:55you know, just like motor city who you're riding out with, you know, to, uh, to the black hill.
07:59Yeah. And Motown as well. Yeah.
08:01Yeah. Motown, Motown in motor city. And, but, but, but there's dealerships all over the country.
08:08I mean, you find your, your, your dealership and you go in and you tell them you want to
08:12register for rolling Sturgis. You scan a QR code and you're on your way to being a winner. And
08:16listen to all the things that the motor company has given away. You can win a motorcycle. Matter
08:22of fact, this, this campaign is twice as big because it's rolling Sturgis to Milwaukee because
08:26the big ride home event is Labor Day in Milwaukee. So we're combining the two campaigns. So you can win
08:32one of two motorcycles, beautiful top of the line motorcycles. You can win one of 11 trips that we're
08:40giving away to Sturgis or one of 11 trips we're giving away to Milwaukee. We're giving away a
08:45chance to win one of two $5,000 gift cards. Who doesn't need $5,000? We're giving away a chance
08:50to
08:50win a guitar, a custom Dean rolling us USA guitar that I sent the dealers. I get a chance to
08:56win a
08:57tele-pizza oven. You get a chance to win swag bags, wristbands to camp at Sturgis worth about 800 bucks
09:02a pair to see all the concerts with Sammy Hagar, Rob Zombie, Miranda Lambert, Insane Clown Posse,
09:07Jackal, whatever you want to say, but it's a great event. But there's no other company,
09:14no other motorcycle manufacturer, no other car manufacturer giving away so many opportunities
09:19to win so much. And, you know, and right now you just go into your dealership and you can do
09:24that.
09:24And people don't realize it, but these dealerships have riding academies. If you don't ride and you
09:29want to ride, you can take a riding course and learn how to ride. And, and even if you don't
09:35want
09:35to ride, it's still great to be part of the culture. Go win your $5,000 gift card, go win
09:40the guitars,
09:42go win the wristbands to camp in Sturgis. Whether you ride or not, you can be part of the family.
09:47And
09:48Harley Davidson, right now we've got the let's ride challenge going on too, where
09:51we've challenged, we want every single motorcycle rider, whether they're riding a Harley or not,
09:57we want everybody to go to the dealership and we want them to enter the let's ride challenge.
10:01And we're looking to hit 100 cumulative miles. And when we have 100 million cumulative miles,
10:08and we just are, you know, 100 million, we're just now about to hit, we're at like 46 million miles.
10:14Wow. And we've got 56, 57,000 people participating. We're looking for more.
10:20The oldest motorcycle in this let's ride challenge is a 1929 WL. I mean, how cool is that? But, but
10:27we,
10:27so you can do that. And what's going to happen is when we hit 100 million miles, there's going to
10:32be a
10:32million dollar donation to veterans, veterans organizations. And, and along the way, you could
10:38win one of five Harley Davidson motorcycles. So between those five motorcycles, and then the rolling
10:44campaign where you can win one of two motors, there's seven motorcycles that you've got a chance
10:48to win. Who does that? Yeah. Harley. So you want to ask me why I love Harley Davidson? I mean,
10:54they're the coolest. And, um, you know, and, and, and we're going to be out there. If you, if you're
10:58a
10:58hog member, a Harley Davidson owner group member, you get a discount to stay on our property. And,
11:04uh, you just go to Pappy Hoyle campground.com P-A-P-P-Y-H-O-E-L campground.com
11:11and, uh, make your reservations, come and party with us. All right. So getting to, uh,
11:15to Jackal last time I saw you, you, you actually actually was on Valentine's day. Can't let the
11:19people forget about that. Uh, Jesse and I shared flowers and drinks, but you did give away a
11:25motorcycle that day, but you also played some, uh, some music for me. Are we going to see any new
11:29music coming out from you or Jackal anytime soon? Yeah. Well, I've, I've had some stuff I've been
11:35working on. I mean, my schedule has been so crazy. I just got, I actually went in the studio and
11:39was
11:39working on some stuff that me and Nigel and Roman, I'm enjoying playing with my son. Well,
11:44you know, I mean, that's just a moment in time where he's just at the right age and, and, and
11:49he's
11:49great at what he's doing. And I mean, there's not a lot of father sons in rock and roll that
11:54have
11:54been able to record and put music out together. So I've got, you know, you got, um, uh, Pete Townsend
12:00from the who's got his son playing in the who and you got, uh, uh, Rick Nelson from cheap trick.
12:04He's got his son playing drums and then you've got, um, uh, uh, Eddie Van Halen had Wolfgang.
12:11Yeah. And, uh, Nigel's out doing his thing too. Uh, Nigel Dupree, and you can check his stuff. He's
12:16he, you can go find him on Spotify or any of the streaming platforms and under Nigel Dupree,
12:22it's called Nigel, Nigel in the heat. Yeah. He's out there doing his thing, but, uh, he's, um,
12:26he's doing great, but I've been recording with him and, and yeah, I'll be putting some more stuff
12:30out soon. And, um, Oh, really soon after, after Sturgis perhaps. Yeah. Hopefully. Yeah. I'm,
12:37I'm getting close. And I see that, uh, Nigel's actually opening up the show for Sammy Hagar
12:43on August 8th. So that's pretty cool. How cool is that? Right. I mean, he's about to bust on that
12:47one. Cause he's a huge Sammy Hagar fan and Sammy was real cool. You know, reached out and we let
12:51Sammy know that, that, uh, Nigel was wanting to open up for him and Sammy was like, bring him on.
12:56It's cool. Yeah. That's awesome. Well, Jesse, anything else you have to add? I'm
13:00going to, uh, I'm going to go and get some people signed up here. I've been doing that at the
13:04dealerships at my bike nights at Stingers and Lake Point Yacht Club as well. And at Motor City,
13:08Harley Davidson and Motown Harley Davidson. Uh, but I'm super fired up, super excited. I'll be flying
13:12in that weekend to see Sammy. And then of course, uh, doing my show all week long. Anything else the,
13:17uh, the people should know. Um, you know what, we just got to be ready for August 7th through 14th,
13:24make your reservations at Pappy Hoyle campground.com come camp with meltdown. But if you lay down,
13:29if you lay, you get out there, if you lay down, I'm going to call you a wuss because I

13:47code,
13:48just like you were talking about. I think they get up to 31 entries, uh, to do that. So yeah,
13:52there's a lot going on, all this stuff on the website. I will put it in the details,
13:55the description of this episode here. Uh, but man, I'm really looking forward to it. I've been
13:59signing up a bunch of people and it looks like it's going to be, uh, some great riding out there
14:03in Sturges. I can hardly wait. I've never, I've never witnessed anything like that.
14:07I can't wait to shake the hand of the person that wins the trip to, to come to Sturges and
14:12camp
14:12right beside you. We've got everything set up for them. We got the camper. We got their wristbands.
