00:00Former South Korean President Yoon So-yul has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison
00:06after a court found him guilty of illegally receiving free political polling services
00:12during his presidential campaign. The sentence comes after Yoon was earlier given a live term
00:18of his role in the 2024 martial law insurrection.
00:23The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Yoon violated the Political Funds Act by accepting
00:2914 political surveys valued at nearly 28 million won or around 16,000 US dollars without payment.
00:37The court also found that Yoon received the surveys in exchange for promising
00:41to help secure the ruling party's nomination for a former lawmaker. Prosecutors said Yoon and his wife,
00:48former First Lady Kim Kyeon-hee, received a total of 58 free surveys. However, the court convicted him
00:54over just 14 of them. Yoon denied any wrongdoing, saying he had neither requested the surveys
01:01nor promised any political favors. The 65-year-old is also facing several other legal cases
01:07following his 2024 martial law declaration and related scandals.
