Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of violating the Political Funds Act by accepting free political polling services worth nearly 28 million won during his presidential campaign.

00:12during his presidential campaign. The sentence comes after Yoon was earlier given a live term
00:18of his role in the 2024 martial law insurrection.
00:23The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Yoon violated the Political Funds Act by accepting
00:2914 political surveys valued at nearly 28 million won or around 16,000 US dollars without payment.
00:37The court also found that Yoon received the surveys in exchange for promising
00:41to help secure the ruling party's nomination for a former lawmaker. Prosecutors said Yoon and his wife,
00:48former First Lady Kim Kyeon-hee, received a total of 58 free surveys. However, the court convicted him
00:54over just 14 of them. Yoon denied any wrongdoing, saying he had neither requested the surveys
01:01nor promised any political favors. The 65-year-old is also facing several other legal cases
01:07following his 2024 martial law declaration and related scandals.
