00:11and solidarity, he will be tasked with moving Moldova closer to its goal of EU membership.
00:16His nomination comes after former Prime Minister Aleksandru Munteanu resigned on July 3 after
00:21just eight months on the job, citing differences with the ruling majority.
00:25In a public address, Sandu emphasized that Tofan's primary responsibilities will center
00:30on driving economic growth, reviving the domestic economy and strengthening the overall institutional
00:36resilience of state security.
00:38To successfully secure the position, Tofan, a 44-year-old Harvard Business School graduate,
00:43will have to secure parliamentary backing within two weeks.
00:47He has no prior government experience and previously served as a managing partner at private equity
00:51firm Horizon Capital.
00:52The development comes soon after the EU opened the first clusters of accession negotiations
00:57for Moldova and Ukraine.
